I am about to install my ceiling (RC/Drywall/GG/Drywall) and was wondering what I can do now to prepare for mounting a projector. I currently have a RPTV and am not planning to upgrade for 6 months to a year. I know different projectors have favorable throw distances and different mounts so I'm not sure what I can do right now. So far I've only installed an outlet in the ceiling about 15 FT from the front wall. Any suggestions appreciated.

I wouldn't install any outlet until the projector and mount is hung. You can always wire the attic for the outlet until you determine an exact position. It isn't hard to add a plug to the ceiling after the room is complete. The last thing you would want is the projector too far from the outlet (or behind it) or the outlet in the spot where you need to mount the projector.

And if you haven't found the exact position where you want to put the projector mount, you could cut some 3/4" plywood and secure it between the rafters with some blocking in the general location. Then put up the drywall over that (maybe some GG or something similar in between). That way you have an 'area' in the ceiling that you know you will be able to get a couple screws into for a solid mount and not have to worry about getting it exactly to hit wood.

-tiggers,

Good idea; I think that's what I'll do...

I 'listened' to my buddy who suggested I installed my outlet 12' from the front wall when I was building my house. I then bought a projector several months later and learned I installed the plug to close to the front wall.....I have no way to access my attic in order to move the plug. Now I have been forced to use that plug to power my projector...

I would take the advice and not install your plug until you know how far back you will mount your projector
