Two days ago my JVC SX21 started having a grey horizontal band (GHB) across the image.

The GHB varies in height.

(Pictures will best illustrate the problem).

This happens:

- With different hardware (tried 2 DVD players)

- With different inputs (component with HD receiver; DVI with 2 DVD players )

The GHB height changes (and sometimes completely goes away) when:

- I power down and up the input (DVD, HD receiver)

- On DVD, I select Stop and then Play.

- I cycle through the inputs (PC 1, 2, and 3) while any inputs are powered on.

The GHB does NOT happen when the projector is on with no power from the input, i.e., blue screen with "PC 1 [or 2, 3] No Input" on screen.

Any diagnoses or informed guesses much appreciated. :)

If it moves its a ground...

Thanks, Darian. What would the fix be?

(I should have mentioned that I have had the projector in the current setup for 2 1/2 years, with no changes in the power hook-up...that I know of.)

Have you tried bypassing the video processor by feeding it a 1:1 source like a HTPC with 1400x1050 resolution? If the banding goes away it's lilkely a problem with the video processing circuit and not something with the optical block.

Mark, I haven't tried that (and I'm not sure I understand it :)). I don't have an HTPC, but I could simply re-set the projector to 1:1 and see what happens.

But based on Damian' grounding comment above, I did try unplugging and plugging the projector back in. So far, no grey banding yet. :) But I'll keep checking and report back.

If unplugging the projector proves to be the fix, why would that be?

I have experimented the same problem on my French SX21 .
After some tweaks I have found that if you press the "hide " button on the remote control twice the problem dissapear.
But it is not a definitive solution .....
