This space is 9 feet tall, 26 feet deep and 13 feet wide. There are four columns on the side walls not visible in every picture.


From the Front Stage:

I am going to line the side walls with linacoustic up to 44 inches high. That does not include the four columns you see drywalled. My question there is, will putting mineral wool in the base and tops of those columns be effective as bass traps?

You might notice that rear soffit over the sliding door. That will house my two electrostatic rear surrounds.

The columns on the side walls will house electrostatic side surrounds.

From under that rear soffit will be a heavy velvet curtain with black-out cloth sewn onto the back of it.

The drywall standing up towards the rear is leaning against a cherry bar. The front of that bar will have the same carpet as on the ground. There will be about 16 inches between the bar and the reclined seats. Can I place mineral wool there to handle the bass traps?

From the back

Here you are looking at the soundstage up front. I plan to have a false wall there with two Velodyne SPL10000R subs and electrostatic Center and Front speakers. I don't plan to line those surrounding walls with any acoustic treatment. I don't want to throw in bass traps in the corner because I am concerened the Maggies need those corners/walls to perform.

Not as effective as putting it in corners. Bass collects in the corners, so that's where traps are most effective.

I don't want to throw in bass traps in the corner because I am concerened the Maggies need those corners/walls to perform.

You really do want to put bass traps in the corners. It's impossible to make any domestic size room perfectly flat, but the more bass traps you have, the closer you'll get to a flat response.
