What the heck is 768p?

Is it true that Sony makes Samsung panels?

These are both things that a rather uppity sales clerk told me today. I know of nothing that is transmitted or formatted in 768p thus it sounds like it would actually be inferior to 720p.

768p is the native resolution for the majority of plasma panels.

No, it is not true. Samsung and Sony formed a joint corporation in 2004 to manufacture LCD panels. The plant is located in Korea. JVC also benefits as they use the Samsung branded panels.

Most 720p sets - lcd and plasma- have displays with a native resolution of 768p.
