As the master RS-1 is filled up with many things, I thought it might be good to open a thread to discuss in particular the exact processing capabilities of the RS-1 with the Gennum VXP tech.
So far what I can see is:
All accounts mention that the processing is excellent.
All accounts say that it can't vertically stretch the image.
Things I would like to know:
1) Setting capabilities in regards image quality etc.
2) Can settings be saved for individual inputs?
3) Can you customize the aspect ratio of material being shown? In other words can you set up CIH (without the stretch) for different material.
Anything else that anybody can add regarding processing would help.
Thanks!

Not to start either a long debate or a long list BUT as a Lumagen user I feel compelled to add/comment that there are a HUGE number of setup features/options other than those that you list which I find to be absolutely essential and, regardless of what chip is in a projector, I will continue to use a video processor until and unless (AND WE ARE NOWHERE CLOSE FROM WHAT I HAVE READ) someone creates a projector whose processing capabilities/flexibilities are equal..

Well I do agree with you there to a point. I am just really hoping that the RS-1 Gennum will do enough for me. It really isn't looking like it will though. Perhaps I will be forced to use something similar to a lumagen.
I know you don't want to start a list, but what features are you wanting?
Cameron, it is not so much the features that I am wanting but more the features that I am using, a short list of which includes:
- Different brightness, color, contrast, etc. setting per input/per resolution
- Different brightness, color, contrast, etc. settings per light conditions
- Grey scale calibration/setup functionality built in
- Need to only run one cable to my projector
- Non-linear stretch
- Regular upgrades
- + so much more
I think that most will concur that no matter how good the chip is in a display unit, it'll never rival implementation of similar, or even lesser, chips in a stand-alone video processor. The priorities just aren't there - especially in these mid priced options. I, too, am a Lumagen user. I fully intend to keep my HDQ - albeit with an inferior chip to what comes in the new RS1 - until the new Lumagen Radiance starts shipping. I use the processor for so much (not only my SDI feed - but also all of the things cited above and more) that I couldn't bare life without it.
