View Full Version : Does XBOX 1 upconvert DVD's? Kil4Thril 02-11-07, 09:30 PM Since it has a 720p mode, I thought this may actually happen. So, can it? l3ftonm3 02-11-07, 09:41 PM Since it has a 720p mode, I thought this may actually happen. So, can it? I dont think it does, but you can mod the xbox and load xbox media center onto it and that will upconvert them. schticker 02-11-07, 10:00 PM Since it has a 720p mode, I thought this may actually happen. So, can it? Well, it doesn't really have a "720p mode"; it just wants to know what your TV can and can't do. This is a throwback to the early days in the design when we all thought there would be more than three or four games over 480p. It stayed in the menu even though ultimately it became a non-sequitur. Ultimately, that's the answer I was expecting. I guess I was hoping to get some upconversion for "free". formulanerd 02-12-07, 02:53 PM and to the poster who mentioned that xbmc would do it... wrong. constraints on component says you'll get 480p max. same with the 360. chrisherbert 02-12-07, 03:09 PM XBMC doesn't care about component "constraints" NoThru22 02-12-07, 03:13 PM and to the poster who mentioned that xbmc would do it... wrong. constraints on component says you'll get 480p max. same with the 360. You are incorrect sir. XBMC is not a legal program and therefore does not have to respect the DVD forum's constraints about upscaling over component. You can either soft mod (with Mechassault) or hard mod your Xbox to achieve this. formulanerd 02-12-07, 03:13 PM well my xbmc doesnt do any scaling, does yours? chrisherbert 02-12-07, 03:17 PM Quoting from the XBMC website: "Xbox/XBMC can output 480p/720p/1080i (if you have a High Definition AV Pack/component cable) and upscale all low-resolution videos (like retail DVD-Video/Movies) to 720p (1280x720 pixel progressive) or 1080i (1920x1080 pixel interlaced) in hardware (linear upscale/upconvert). So XBMC have no problems with upscaling example DVD-video (720x480 NTSC/720x756 PAL) movies to HDTV 480p/720p/1080i." pulse333 02-12-07, 03:23 PM well my xbmc doesnt do any scaling, does yours? The lastest version has a separate setting for video playback that defaults to NTSC no matter what your dash or XBMC res setting. You probably missed the additional setting for video playback. tensai 02-12-07, 03:23 PM well my xbmc doesnt do any scaling, does yours? I believe that you need to activate 720p and 1080i in the original Xbox firmware, then XBMC would output in resolution other than 480p. and yes, my XBMC scales just fine . . . Kil4Thril 02-12-07, 09:59 PM I've sent PM's to a few of you, but if anyone would like to provide me info as to the modifications and software needed for this, I am all ears. My XBox is bone stock, and I have the MS component cables. Does the modification still allow it to play games (even if it isn't online, since that part will be cut). |
