Trying to help a buddy out--he called me Saturday to say that he had just exchanged an older Moto box with DVI for the Moto 6412 DVR with HDMI. Problem is he does not get a picture using HDMI, but can through component cables.
Anyone else have this problem? Comcast reps are of course clueless and say he has to wait 2 weeks for a service visit. He lives in Pittsburgh.
<Edited--he cannot in fact get any picture, service menu, etc using HDMI so my guess is there is a problem with that port. I told him to try and exchange it for a new box>

Is your friend using a receiver in the middle of the connection from the DVR to the TV? If so, that could well be the problem. Is he sure the HDMI cable is good?

Suggest he use the component until he can get the service visit since it appears that his HDMI output port is bad on his 6412. My neighbor had the HDMI output on his 6416 after it had been installld and working for month. When we finally got the service rep to try another 6416 he just could not beleive that the HDMI port was what was causing the problem. He may suffer a perceptable loss of color PQ using component but otherwise component will work just as well.
I assume that he has tried both 720p and 1080i output resolution from the Motorola STB.

In response to previous posts:
The HDMI cable came from Comcast, and he doesn't have any other options for testing it. I would imagine the odds are much better that the box itself would have problems versus a cable.
He is running the STB directly to the tv.
I've encouraged him to take the box directly back to Comcast and exchange, like he did when exchanging his older DVI model for the newer HDMI STB.
I live in Pittsburgh and have the same box from Comcast. I can confirm that the HDMI does work, as I use it with my setup. I do suffer from handshake issues with it. A lot of times, I will turn it on, there will be picture for 5 seconds, then the screen goes totally green. Usually just turning off the box and back on will fix the problem. My monoprice 5x1 switcher hates it, as it always displays a red light when it is being used. HDMI sucks for compatiibilty.
Make sure he changed the settings in the setup menu. To get to this menu, the cable box must be turned off. Press menu, on either the remote or cable box. Make sure the ouput is set to his TVs standard. 480i will produce a blank screen, and the box can not output this using HDMI. There is also an more options selection for HDMI. Not sure what all this does as I have never gone into it.

I just lgot the 6416 and when I look into the diagnostics screen, I see that the HDMI is disabled. I don't have a manual for this thing, so can someone help me get it enabled? My TV won't do PiP unless I'm running at least one digital source...
