View Full Version : Is all standard drywall created equal?

I've recently been buying my drywall from a local ace store that's more like your typical Osh (fairly big store and has free loading). The drywall/sheetrock I've been buying seems kinda crappy though. It seems as though this sheetrock is more porous than I remember with other brands. On several cuts I've hit sizeable are pockets/pores, or whatever you want to call it. So now I'm wondering, is this crud going to negatively impact sound transmission? I haven't done cutting on the 5/8 sheets yet that I'll be using to reduce sound transmission into my house, but the 1/2 sheets I've used for misc stuff are horrible!

Is drywall= drywall, or are some brands better?

Is it a 'Sheetrock' brand? there are different types, but I didn't know the general public (I'm a custom builder, no offense intended to anyone) had access to them. And no all brands are not created equal. It sounds as if you may have what THEY call waterproof, for bathrooms, it has more "cavities' in it to hold and disperse moisture.
