BROADCAST SCHEDULE
Game of the Week Action Begins Saturday, April 7 With New 3:30PM ET Start
MLB on FOX Regular Season Games in High Definition for the First Time
New York & Los Angeles -- FOX Sports steps to the plate to bring fans of the National pastime another season of excitement, drama and unforgettable moments. Under terms of the new seven-year rights agreement between FOX Sports and Major League Baseball, the 2007 FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK schedule provides a full season of the “Game of the Week” on broadcast television for the first time since 1989. Beginning April 7, FOX Sports’ coverage airs 26 continuous weeks, and also provides exclusive coverage of the All-Star Game, the American League Championship Series and culminates with the World Series. The 2007 season marks FOX Sports’ 12th straight as the primary network television broadcaster of Major League Baseball and the seventh as the exclusive TV home of the Fall and Midsummer Classics.
The 2007 FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK slate presently features 22 different teams playing in as many as 72 games, most of which are presented in High Definition for the first time. The final two Saturdays of the regular season are designated as “wild card” dates, allowing FOX Sports to choose up to three games on each date with postseason, record-setting or other compelling implications. The weekly MLB on FOX schedule consists of up to three regionalized games, all in the same window, beginning at 3:30 PM ET.
FOX Sports begins its 2007 coverage on Saturday, April 7 with three rivalry match-ups as the Mets head to Atlanta for a clash with the Braves, the Minnesota Twins and A.L. MVP Justin Morneau visit the Windy City for a showdown with the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers to AT&T Park.
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, two of the nation’s more popular teams, and bitter rivals, make nine MLB on FOX appearances including four head-to-head match-ups (4/21, 4/28, 6/2, 9/15). The Chicago Cubs, behind new manager Lou Piniella and the Phillies, behind 2006 National League MVP Ryan Howard are also featured nine times. The FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK schedule also includes eight games apiece for the White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, the A.L. Champion Detroit Tigers and World Champion St. Louis Cardinals.
On Saturday, May 19, Interleague play returns to FOX as cross-town rivals compete for bragging rights in New York and Chicago as the Yankees travel to Shea for a meeting with the Mets and the White Sox head north to square off with the Cubs at Wrigley. The MLB on FOX slate features three additional Interleague Saturdays, June 9, June 16 and June 23. Highlights include the Tigers hosting the N.L. East Champion Mets and a 2005 World Series rematch between the Houston Astros and White Sox (6/9); the Giants visiting Boston and Detroit at Philadelphia (6/16); and the Yankees at San Francisco (6/23).
This year’s schedule also features baseball’s most storied National League rivalry as the Cardinals challenge the Cubs four times (4/21, 4/28, 8/18, 9/15).
In addition to its impressive regular-season schedule, FOX Sports provides exclusive live prime time coverage of Major League Baseball’s 78th All-Star Game, Tuesday, July 10 (8:00-11:00 PM ET) from AT&T Park in San Francisco. The Mid-Summer Classic showcases the brightest stars from the American and National Leagues and is traditionally the highest-rated sports program of the summer.
After the network’s regular-season coverage, FOX Sports provides live coverage of this year’s American League Championship Series and the 103rd World Series. All postseason games and the All-Star Game on FOX are broadcast in HD.
David Hill and Ed Goren are the Executive Producers of FOX Sports. Bill Brown is Senior Producer and Executive Vice President of Production and Field Operations. Scott Ackerson is the Coordinating Producer of MLB on FOX’s studio coverage; Gary Lang produces. Pete Macheska is coordinating producer of FOX Sports’ Major League Baseball coverage. Bill Webb directs.

jefbal99 02-12-07, 12:53 PM When they say most will be in HD, does that mean two out of three each week?
MLB games, i would assume, take less cameras and people. Therefore, if Fox can produce 6 NFL games a day in HD, I don't see why they can't do 3 MLB games.
Any links to the full schedule?
I understand the need for big match-ups, but they're putting the same teams on each Saturday that we see every other day either on ESPN or the team's national network. A little variety would be welcome.
Anyway, if I have to watch the same teams day-in and day-out, at least they'll be in HD on Saturdays.

The ratings are far, far lower than for the NFL games. I would assume the "major" weekly game will be in HD. Maybe, if we on the west coast are lucky, even one in each 1 PM time period.

Agreed, MLB is much lower than NFL in priority.
I'm just happy that I have my RSN in HD for a chunk of HD games
hdtvjunkie247 02-12-07, 01:06 PM This is certainly long overdue. Excellent news.

I agree even though I am from Boston I am sick of the Sox Yanks stuff enough already.

With this new contract FOX only has one time window each Saturday for baseball. No more 1 PM starts for both coasts. All games will start at 3:55 ET after a 25 minute pregame.

Fox Hires Three Former Major Leaguers as Analysts
By John Consoli MediaWeek February 12, 2007
Fox Sports has announced that Joe Girardi, Mark Grace and Eric Karros, all former Major League Baseball players, will serve as analysts for its MLB coverage this season.
Girardi was the 2006 National League Manager of the Year, after a long major league career as a player. Grace played his long career with the Chicago Cubs, while Karros spent most of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The trio wil join Fox veteran game analyst Tim McCarver and rotate between the Fox Saturday Baseball Game of the Week pregame show and game coverage.
Eric Byrnes, Arizona Diamondbacks player, will also contribute a monthly feature to the pregame show on Fox.
Karros did analysis for Fox Sports during the 2004 MLB Divisional Series and spent the past two years as a baseball analyst on ESPN. Grace is also an analyst on the Arizona Diamondback telecasts. And Girardi will also do game and studio analysis on YES Network, the home network of the New York Yankees.

123HDTV 02-12-07, 02:50 PM That's a decent schedule actually. It's much more expansive than it has in the past. Previously in NY every weekend would have a Mets or Yankees game. Now it looks like there will be variety.
The 4pm start time is excellent also. I wonder if that frees up the rest of the games that aren't on Fox for EI, either earlier or at the same time.
Cool. No pirates games again this year. Thanks for nothing fox.
humdinger70 02-12-07, 03:54 PM I hope fox allows some variety. On the left coast, it always seems to be a steady diet of Dodgers/Angels/Giants/A's (and maybe once in a while, Padres); even if they're all mediocre or bad.
Baldmaga 02-12-07, 04:05 PM One Diamondbacks game...nice job FOX...

It's hard to be a Padres fan since their RSN games are only on Cox Cable in San Diego and Las Vegas.
kchdtvguy 02-12-07, 04:27 PM One Diamondbacks game...nice job FOX...
try 0 Royals games
ucsbgaucho 02-12-07, 05:12 PM George, actually here in SD I have Time Warner and we have Cox channel 4, it only shows programming when there's a Padres game or other actual sporting event going on, but I think pretty much all of SD can see the padres if they have Cox or TWC.
hondo21 02-12-07, 06:14 PM Cool. No pirates games again this year. Thanks for nothing fox.Yeah really. They've been down a long time, but things are looking up somewhat and they have some good young players. But I guess the Bucs don't exist as far as MLB and Fox are concerned. Whatever.
Good news about more HD baseball though.
Honestly, I know what its like to be a fan of lousy teams, but its hard to blame Fox for not showing Royals or Pirates games. While hopefully their exciting young players will develop, the those teams have done nothing to warrant any national interest. Fox is showing teams from non-major markets (Twins and Tigers, for example,)teams that have fielded competitive teams recently. If the Pirates and Royals return to something approaching competitiveness, they will get national games in the future. Until then, they won't.
rkunces 02-12-07, 06:31 PM Now if only Fox would allow the out of region games to be available on EI including the HD feeds then we'd have something.
try 0 Royals games
0 Orioles games and 1 Nationals games. Definitely giving priority to the Baltimore-Washington market ... NOT. Too bad because none of the local Baltimore or Washington stations are doing HD baseball this year.
canada_habs2004 02-12-07, 09:47 PM does this mean that FOX won't be covering the playoffs as extensively as they usually do?
i remember last year, as soon as the playoffs began, their was a game on FOX pretty much every night until the the world series was over.
does this mean that FOX won't be covering the playoffs as extensively as they usually do?Yes.
tbb1226 02-12-07, 10:29 PM try 0 Royals gamesI wish I could, but they play the Tigers about 62 times every year, so I have to see some of them ;)

That is correct. And the affiliates ARE very HAPPY with that change.

That STINKS! None of the tbs games will be in HD which is the whole first round of the playoffs apparently!

TBS-HD is "rumored" to launch nationwide around September - so don't go crazy just yet.
TBS has rights to the Divisional Playoffs and, this year, the NL Championship Series. (TBS and Fox will alternate CS each year.)
And (though, of course, you can't count your chickens) it says it will be broadcasting in HD by playoff time.
This is great (and overdue news)
I am also pleased that there is more variety (though there is not enough variety)-- 9 weeks this season Chicago will get a team that is not the Cubs or White Sox. It seemed in the past we had only Chicago games every week. My preference would still be for them to carry one game nationally each week so you could see more teams. Also this would allow for 100% HD.
Hopefully most means two out of three HD each week at a minimum.

I have no doubt that TBS will have an HD channel up and running for its broadcasts, i just doubt that everyone will be carrying it. TBS already does the Braves games in HD for their local channel in Atlanta, so its not a stretch to see them produce the Play-offs in HD, I just wonder who will be carrying it.
If D* has a bird up and no issues, they already stated they will carry it, its the CableCo's that I worry about.

Agreed. When I was a youngin that's how the NBC game was it WAS the game of the week. I enjoyed watching the different teams. Now it would cost Fox more to do just one game when you factor in the lost regional income.

eh no thank you. keep your royals, yanks, tiggers to yourself. i rather have more regional games. should i want to watch your teams, i can just tune into ESPN or purchase EI.

Knowing Time Warners record here, we'll be lucky to get TBS HD by 2009 (still waiting for ESPN2 HD among others)

Considering Time Warner Cable and TBS are the same company, there is a better chance of seeing TBS HD before ESPN2 HD.
dennis1 02-13-07, 06:09 PM TBS-HD is "rumored" to launch nationwide around September - so don't go crazy just yet. What about those of us in bandwidth-starved cable systems, like TW Desert Cities? What options will we have, if any, to see those TBS playoff games in HD? Maybe on INHD?

The same thing the Pittsburgh reporters are smoking, we were supposed to be over .500 3 years ago; that never happened, nor will it this year. I hope the Pens keep winning though.

I hate MASN, at least we could have had the Orioles games in HD on Comcast Sportsnet, now no games in HD. Of course when ESPN has some games in HD, we still won''t be able to watch it with black out rules. This sucks, unless the Nationals make it to the playoffs, we really won't be seeing much of them in HD.
Yes, the thread title should now be changed to ALL Fox MLB in HD this year.
ncxcstud 03-05-07, 09:19 PM 6 Rangers games, awesome :). Now how many of those will be in HD? I didn't read the entire thread though, so sue me ;)
