Has anyone heard, via the grapevine, any news about whether Mitsubishi has plans to produce a 1080p DLP projector? I currently own a Mits HC3000U and I really love this projector and I'm hoping Mitsubishi might have a DLP version in the 1080p format.

That's an LCD. I think he was asking whether they have a DLP unit in the pipeline.
I hope they do, the HC5000 with DLP would be groundbreaking.
The big weakness as is with LCD is its higher black level, compared to DLP or Sonys Pearl, at least as demoed on a HP screen.
Everything else about it is near perfect, its silent, it has a excellent video processor from Silicon Optix, its lens is
sharp edge to edge, and it has lots of inputs.
The new BenQ w9000 is worth a look, its 1080P DLP, and priced like the LCD 1080 projectors.
Dont rule out the HC5000, with the right screen or setup to help the blacks, because its other features are hard to beat.

I haven't heard anything, but I think that they are more shooting for price point right now...the least expensive 1080p out there. If they switch to DLP, it will raise the pricepoint and they will have stiffer competition. This is my opinion obviously.
