I have windows xp with out the MCE addon, can I stream videos to my 360? Sorry if this has been asked before. I just got my 360 yesterday and have been trying out all new things.

I loaded up Zune on my XP machine and it seems to work with video (haven't tested everything yet). Zune has made a mess of my music library though. It hasn't changed anything, it just doesn't organize albums, artists, and songs the way it should.

I'm using TVersity for that, it takes a bit of work to get going but they have pretty good FAQs and directions

yep, Tversity is the only way.... i didnt like TVersity, but luckily i have MCE and Transcode360.

it wasnt that i didnt like TVersity, but after i got it set up i just had problems with the transcoding, like it would sit there forever, or not see some files i had shared, or something along those lines.

transcode lets you use media center, and reminds me most of my xbox180 w/ xbmc.

with zune or mp11 you're stuck with just WMV (in addition to audio files)

Just to clarify the above posts. Yes, the 360 supports streaming video from your pc. If you install Windows Media Player 11 (mp11) then you can stream video which is in WMV format as well as all your audio. With Transcode360 or TVersity, you can stream additional video formats.

and to clarify this. Transcode360 requires MCE, so this isnt an option for the OP

TVersity was the absolute biggest headache to try and get working. Granted, I'm running Vista, but it seems pretty hit and miss.

Worse, TVersity can't transcode much better than 480i unless you've got a super-powerful machine, so watching HD videos is pretty much impossible. That alone made it no good for me.

Well..TVersity took me a few weeks to get it sorted out, but it has been great ever since.

If you want to post a "How to" for TVersity, it's got to be better than the info they give on the site....

yeah I agree setting up TVersity is challenging especially for the average user without much experience, and even just getting WMP 11 working can be a challenge with firewalls and routers and all. I sympathize with people trying set it up! But for my purposes, which are watching 350 Mb Divx downloads of Lost, 24, Prison Break, Heroes without commercials and on the couch, it was totally worth it. I have found that anything much higher bandwidth doesn't work so well, but then again I'm using a wireless connection to my pc so I don't have great expectations.
