Is it possible to copy from a USB flash drive to the HD on the 360? I can't seem to find the option at all under the dashboard. I am currently trying to transfer some of my MP3s to my 360.

I know that I could stream from my PC but as my PC is not stable at all that isn't really an option.

i havent been able to find that option either, dont know if it's possible.

you could get the xport or xsata... about 40 bucks from best buy.

major nelson has stated that, although we can see that the HD drive has a storage location, we cannot read nor write to it. You can delete the info in there, but all that is is a dedicated persistent memory location for the HD drive alone. The only info. it holds is stuff like movie bookmarks, or your movie setting preferences. I know he went into quite a bit of detail so just look up his website and do a search

Local storage FTL, the 20GB (11.5GB) will disappear before you know it if you start storing music/videos on you 360.

MCE/WMP11 saves you all of that trouble :) I just have all of my music folders on my network set to share.

As I stated above as my PC sucks and isn't even close to stable right now trying to use Zune or WMP11 to stream my MP3s to the XBOX 360 isn't really an option. Also how I use the HD space is up to me (I only really want to have about 4gigs of music on the HD. I just want to know if this is possible.

If I put the CDs into the XBOX 360 itself I thought I read somewhere that you can rip them to the HD so why shouldn't I be able to copy them from my USB key. Worst case I will just use my flash drive and I will have to pick 2GB of music for it.

If this option doesn't exist I hope it is something they will add soon. It doesn't make much sense to me that I can't do this.

Hi all,
I am resurrecting this thread since it seems there will soon be a 250GB hard drive for Xbox 360.

So as of October 2009, is there ANY way to copy MP4, AVI or MP3 files from a USB storage device to Xbox 360's hard drive? Please don't hesitate to mention any possibility even if it require some sort creative/complicated process to copy files from USB to Xbox's hard drive..

Thanks

you can easily get them there with a number of cables/devices on the market... as to if they'll play or not? i'm not sure, but i dont see why not.

I've tried copying from a USB stick to the HDD. the 360 allowed me to copy pictures to the HDD, it wouldn't even list mp3 or other music file types

if you connect your 360 to your computer through ethernet and set up windows media center to connect with your console is there a way to send video and audio files that way or just play them from your computer on to your 360 ?

Yes. You do media center OR you can connect to WMP/Zune. It's really the same thing as far I know for basic movies and music, with different interfaces,.

There is no official way to copy pre-ripped media to the sidecar HDD.
You can rip CDs to the sidecar one by one. And that's about it.
The only practical value for a 250GB drive (other than bragging rights) is if you want to buy lots of TV shows or install lots and lots of games to the side car. Even the 120GB is overkill for most users.
A more cost effective solution is to simply buy an external terabyte drive to hold your media instead of buying a "big" sidecar HDD.

Alright, I got that.

Is there any unofficial way to copy music or video files to the Xbox 360's hard drive?
