I just bought an HD-DVD player to go with my XBox, when movies are in widescreen, the left upper corner bends down on my Sony KD-34XBR970. It looks like the center is bowed up and needs to be straightened out. Is this just a defect, or can I fix this. I have adjusted Tilt Correction and Vertical Correction but these fix different issues. When I do adjust tilt and Vert, the green line is bent. This Issue is very minor, but it would be nice to fix it. Anyone know how to get into the service menu to fix this?

Yes, see the Sony Service Codes thread. adjust VCEN - it might improve it.

Dude, you are awesome!! Found vert cent, adjusted and all is pretty good. Thanks a ton!! The line looks a tad wavy, any way to tweak this? Maybe I am being too anal.

I have this exact same problem too. Called Sony to report problem 2 weeks ago. Had a tech come to my home with Sony's warranty blessing to repair the problem. The tech got it close, but I'm still not happy. He said the next step would be to replace the "yolk". I wish I had the know-how to fix this problem myself, but alas, I'm a newb. My question is, should I allow the tech to replace my yolk or search out a different approach?

did he adjust the vert cent in the service menu? I have a few sheets telling how, I could email them to you.

I'm afraid dax never made it buddy :(
Try to adjust VCEN and VPIN to get the bowing to a minimum. But with these TV's it's pretty impossible to get it perfect without looking like a wave. Don't over do it though with either. Try to stand on the side of the TV and have something up (test pattern, black border) so you can eye if the line is straight. Much easier to tell instead of looking straight at it. Or you can get silly like me and bust out a ruler or something and make sure it's straight. I found it easier to tape a piece of paper to the screen and just even up a line from the test patterns with the edge of the paper.
