Has anyone here watched either Transporter movies? If so, how are the movies themselves? How is the quality? I mean, they are Fox releases, so I figure the AV quality is good, but I'd rather not have a repeat of Wicker Man (in movie essence). The guy who plays the main character makes me think of Agent 47 from Hitman, so that is another reason I am now interested in these.

Havent seen them in HD, but reviews have been very good.
As far as the movies 1 was very good, 2 was ok.

Jason Statham is a total badass in most of his movies. I liked The Transporter quite a bit better than The Transporter 2. I pretty much hated the sequel after seeing it in theatres, but then rented it and thought it was just okay (story wise). There's definitly a ton of action in both movies that would look great in HD.

Hi

Both movies are great, and the picture and sound on Transporter 2 is especially good

The Transporter is a fantastic action movie.... Transporter 2... not so much.

I just finished watching the Transporter. The PQ is awsome, except some indoor scenes there's a lot of grain. But then it could be my display.

Awsome movies, I didn't pick up Transporter 2 because I thought it was a little on the lame side.

Don't have the BD's yet (which are reportedly excellent), but the movies were decent enough. No brain surgeon degree needed to follow these movies, that's for sure. Tons of action, hot chicks (particularly the 1st one) and nice cars.

Thanks. Unless I am blind, HighDefDigest nro DVDTalk have these reviewed, which makes me mad. I heard Crank is great as well, but I've got that on m7y Netflix list.

You must (http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/transporter.html) be blind. (http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/transporter2.html) ;)

They are both great action movies. Turn off your brain and have fun.

Transporter 2 is one of the best looking BD I've seen so far. If you can get past the ridiculously crazy color scheme.

Have to second that. In my opinion Transporter 2 is easily in the top three best looking discs on either format.

Ok, I have to chime in on this one.

I am all for brainless action movies...

Me: "So what did you think of Crank?"
GF: "It was ok, but its just like every other movie you watch."
Me: "... Hi-def ... 7channel uncompressed ... that scene where he ..."
GF: "Did you record Grey's Anatomy?"

I digress. Transporter 1 delivered on the campy, brainless action.

Transporter 2 I would have walked out on if I walked out on movies. The "action is WAY TOO over the top to even try to "turn off your brain". Hell I think I would have walked out after this one scene, but it happened to be the ending. Most of the movie I was thinking "they can't be serious?"

It would be different if the movie was a subtle parody like "The Big Hit". Nope. This was this first movie I have ever seen that insulted my intelligence.

I've only seen the Transporter 2 on TV and thought it was entertaining but dumb at the same time. You really do have to turn off that part of your brain that believes in the laws of physics and logic. Do that and you will have fun watching it !

I have Transporter 1 on DVD and BD.

The Special Delivery Edition SD DVD is better than the BD version. Go figure.
SDE was $4.99 at CC and BB. BD was $24 at BB. Yikes!
I am surprised and disappointed at the results.
Running thru my HDMI on VP50 Plasma. and THX 5.1 surround sound.

SDE DVD has DTS sound, and PQ is better!!! How come?

I expected BD version to be as good or better than Batman Begins HD DVD with Dolby TrueHD.
Hah! Not even close.

BD sounds like crap, and looks like crap on my BDP-S301.

SD DVD version upconverted on my Toshiba HD DVD D2, a $249 player, kicks the BDP ($449) and my Oppo's ($199) Ass!

No Ethernet port on the BDP, no firmware updates on Sony site, no real support/solution. Good thing its from Costco... :D

BD sux so far. slow remote response, buggy.

Although setup menu and interface is well done, and the front face of the unit looks nice. Hah!

something wrong with your setup if you think the SD looks better than BD. not a chance any upconverted DVD can rival that of BD of the same movie, certainly not this one. this disc also h as DTS sound at 1.5Mbps, which will get even better when we can get players that will decode DTS-MA.

half of your post has nothing to do with the topic and is just trolling.

back to the OP's question. i saw both on DVD and also 1 on BD via Netflix. the 2nd one wasn't nearly as good as the first so i havent even bothered renting it. some of the over the top sequences are comparable to McLane vs jet fighter plane. lack of a female lead with shu qi's level of hotness also was a letdown. i have no complaints in the quality dept of 1.

bottom line: 1st one worth buying, 2nd one worth a rental if you havent seen it yet.

I liked the first one. The second didn't make it, because he isn´t a Transporter anymore and the action way too much over top,....(the bomb under the audi scene and the plane scene mainly)

You're right. I have both the SD and BD of Transporter 1. The PQ/AQ of the BD is so much better it's not even close. Transporter 2 AQ/PQ is even better although the movie is very mediocre.

Statham is awesome!

Absolutely loved Transporter 1 in Blu-ray. PQ and the DTS 1.5Mb track were both amazing. I especially liked the sound on this disc. I have not seen the 2nd one yet though. I do have #2 but have not watched it yet.

You can't take these movies too seriously as of course the story is a bit far-fetched just like most action movies but for the type of film it is - it is awesome!!

I really enjoy the first one, particularly the fight scene in the oil. It's just a crazy ride. And a solid disc overall with PQ and AQ.

I wasn't very impressed with #2. I didn't plan on picking it up, but I got it as one of my free 5 movies. I'm not sure what the other choices were in its group, but I either owned them or was less impressed. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

The movies are entertaining as long as you don't go into it expecting any realism at all. Jason Statham is a complete badass and its just an hour and a half of over the top action (think Bad Boys 2 style). The AV is fantastic, particularly on #2 which is right up there with Pirates 1 & 2 among the best looking and sounding blu-rays I've seen yet.

T 1 & 2 are 1000 times better than CRANK. PQ will be PQ in T 2 coz most of scenes are shot in sunny Miami.

I have T2 on BD, and agree the pq is great, but the story kind of mindless action. I watched T1 a while back on DVD, from what I remember it was a long the same lines, but not quite as ridiculous. Crank I saw on HD cable, and thought it had even worse of a plot than T2.

PQ of the HD blows away the SD versions. I've watched both. I own the first one. Pretty cheesy movies but once you get past that, the first one has great action. I liked the first movie but hated the second movie.

I pre-ordered Transporter Twin Pack and Unleased (Danny the Dog) released by SONY.
They are getting a MPEG-4 AVC encode with ENGLISH/JAPANESE DTHD tracks and Subs.

Armageddon is listed but without any specs and street date.

Which one (t1 or t2) features the audi, with a bomb on it, that does a barrel roll in mid-air, and hits the crane to knock the bomb off?

because I want to make sure I never watch that movie again. I watched from the beginning up until that point, and just changed the channel.:D

That would be Transporter 2.
The first movie is one of my favorites, just a great action movie. The second one was a joke.

Joke or not it was non-stop action unlike Crank which is foul and disgusting.

I actually liked Transporter 2 more than the original. The first movie has its share of far-fetched moments, so I certainly didn't expect much realism in the sequel. At the end of the day, it is an action packed film with well-choreographed fight scenes and a very likable hero. The audio track is very bombastic and perfectly fits the content.

Friends,

Looks like this thread got hijacked. I just wanted to inform you all that Sony will be releasing War (Rogue Assasin), Almost Famous, Transporter 1,2 and Unleashed (Danny the Dog) on Blu-ray in Japan. I didn't want to create a new thread to convey this message.

My opinion...Transporter 1-It's the original/first movie of the series. Introduction of character, great action sequences, good romantic tie-ins, and really good film editing. A finished product with American editing/post-production.

Transporter 2 - overall, really good action but, for what ever reason the post-production/editing was geared towards Europeans. This is what I felt when viewing Transporter 2.

The action in these types of movies are always over the top, but that's exactly what we paid to see. The first movie was filmed in France, yet had an American post production(ie;music, characters, and style). The second movie filmed in Miami,FL had a "B" movie type of vibe. It had great action but, the characters-besides Jason Statham seemed so fake and trying too hard. I really belive if they re-edited it with an American Post-Production team it would be 100% better.

Basically I'm saying the first movie was geared towards being a hit and the second one seemed rushed and was only in it for the money.

Transporter 2 I would have walked out on if I walked out on movies. The "action is WAY TOO over the top to even try to "turn off your brain".

To me, "Crank" was way over the top; but the ending was great. T2 was a take off on "D.O.A." with a "Ransom" and "Man on Fire" angle.

I love T1 where he talks about the Konis. "I can only take 3. The Konis are set up for 165 kilos..." Later on he says, "See what I mean?" To me the "only" good line in T2 was, "Yes. He's a very good driver." I like that movie for the Frenchie, Francois Berleand. "You wouldn't believe what passes for food here..."

I doubled dipped on T1 but won't buy T2 on BD. I have other movies I have to get first. I'd rather get "Man On Fire" before T2. But I refuse to pay $27.99 for it.
