View Full Version : District B13 jwstegbauer 02-13-07, 11:35 AM Has any one ordered this title: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MX7V48/104-4680110-7681555 fronn 02-13-07, 11:49 AM I was kind of curious how this one was as well (had the dvd on my netflix list for a while)-- I've been tempted to just buy it because it's a Luc Besson movie (writer/producer), but I'm not completely convinced since he didn't direct it. Two of my favorites of all time are Luc Besson (TFE and Leon), so I might just end up taking a chance on it. Anyone see it? (on dvd?) Is there an actual release date for this? On the HD net store they just list it as a preorder without a date... no date on amazon either. DaveFi 02-13-07, 11:56 AM Someone mentioned in another thread there aren't proper English subs but only has the English track for the hearing impaired instead. dpags 02-13-07, 12:03 PM I have it on order from HD.net last week. The confirmation email said 2-4 week delivery, though someone here said they called and they were actually in stock. I'll have to see what happens in the next few days. fronn 02-13-07, 12:09 PM Someone mentioned in another thread there aren't proper English subs but only has the English track for the hearing impaired instead. That's slightly annoying, but things could be worse... As long as there is some english subtitles and a native language track, I'm okay. @ OP I ordered it from Amazon just now, so I guess I'll wait and see how it is -- I'll be sure to report back on how it is! Malcolm_B 02-13-07, 12:20 PM I liked this movie (rented the SD a long time ago) in a pseudo-Crank way; over the top and full of wild characters. Won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I'm thinking of getting it when payday comes next week. laserguns 02-13-07, 12:31 PM Mine's going to be here tomorrow. Ordered last week through amazon and it said that it would take 4-6 weeks for delivery. But it shipped yesterday. I'll post my impressions as soon as I get a chance to watch it. lilstinky 02-13-07, 01:45 PM I was kind of curious how this one was as well (had the dvd on my netflix list for a while)-- I've been tempted to just buy it because it's a Luc Besson movie (writer/producer), but I'm not completely convinced since he didn't direct it. One scene involving a foot chase was just amazing. I will buy this if it's coming on BD. laserguns 02-13-07, 02:05 PM Its already selling at amazon and the hdnet store even though it says 4-6 weeks, it will ship in like three days. dpags 02-13-07, 02:05 PM I hope so! TheAxeMurderer 02-13-07, 02:40 PM I was kind of curious how this one was as well (had the dvd on my netflix list for a while)-- I've been tempted to just buy it because it's a Luc Besson movie (writer/producer), but I'm not completely convinced since he didn't direct it. The fact that David Belle was in it was enough to convince me (type "david belle" on youtube to see why). The PQ was pretty good for a SD and I remember thinking to myself that it would look awesome on Blu-ray. Looks like my wish came true. The strong point of the movie is definitely the action. The acting is just filler between awesome action scenes(kinda of like Ong-Bak and The Protector). I'll be adding it to my collection when it's available. jwstegbauer 02-15-07, 09:36 PM Got a e-mail from Amazon today that District B13 has shipped..... I will let everyone know how good the title looks and sounds after I view it. teckademic 02-16-07, 12:06 AM felt like I was watching one of those old nike (???) commercials where people are jumping from staircase to staircase. Seen it on dvd. cyan 02-16-07, 09:10 AM I had just seen district B13 on dvd a few weeks ago, and thought it was a great senseless, scriptless action movie. plus cyril rafaelli is awesome. so I was more than excited to see the BD release to see if it improved on the already-great-looking dvd version. so a few days ago I picked up District B13, Babel, and The Prestige. I watched district first, and was quite impressed...the PQ is a noticeable improvement over the low-def version. the menu was quite impressive as well...very 3-D. also, I noticed details I couldn't see on dvd. for instance, at the beginning, when K2 grabs the hot dogs off the grill, on dvd I had not noticed he had 2 hot dogs in his hand, rather than 1...the detail just wasn't there on dvd to notice that. the sound is excellent as well. and like others said, it doesn't have proper english subs. however, I thought the english dub was very good...the voice acting was pretty over the top and exaggerated, like the film. I speak french, but this is one dub track I don't mind, particularly in light of the subtitle issue. so, all in all, i'd definitely recommend DB13, particularly if you're a fan of either Luc Besson (think "Wasabi," not "The Professional") or Tony Jaa/Jackie Chan stunt films. I'd go on with my opinion of The Prestige as well since I watched it last night, but I'd only be repeating what highdefdigest and dvdtalk already said, it looks and sounds fantastic, and is a great film to boot. dpags 02-16-07, 10:09 AM Got a e-mail from Amazon today that District B13 has shipped..... I will let everyone know how good the title looks and sounds after I view it. Looks like I'll have to give HD.net a call and make sure mine is going out from them. dago2727 02-16-07, 11:42 AM Mine just went into shipping soon status today from Amazon. Looks like its In Stock on the site as well. Tango22 02-16-07, 11:50 AM I started the same thread about a week ago...use the search feature ladies and gents. It works... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=801222&highlight=district+b13 Neo1965 02-27-07, 10:35 PM If you go for the Transporter/Crank stuff and if you like the opening chase sequence in Casino Royale, this is going to be an amazing movie. Even though the acting was terrible, as far as action flicks go, I actually haven't seen one this intense. Ever. The fighting and chase scenes are well choreographed and flow like poetry. MrHunt 02-27-07, 10:37 PM Thinking about ordering this and Stranger Than Fiction from Amazon after I get paid this week... seem like 2 good buys. Neo1965 02-28-07, 01:12 AM Just don't expect any of these people to win an oscar for acting. There's very little dialogue and these guys let their fists do most of their talking. tlreddragon 02-28-07, 01:46 AM PQ is excellent. And the SDH aren't really that annoying, most people probably won't even notice them. Movie was pretty good too. Lots of action. HandlesFTW 02-28-07, 01:56 AM I own this on SD DVD and it was an awesome movie with a fantastic transfer. MrHunt 02-28-07, 08:12 AM Just don't expect any of these people to win an oscar for acting. There's very little dialogue and these guys let their fists do most of their talking. You are talking to somebody who enjoys Transporter, Transporter 2, Crank, and friggin Ultraviolet... I don't think I will be let down by the action ;). bunkaroo 02-28-07, 09:36 AM Placed my order with HDnet on 2/1, was told it was in stock, and I still have yet to be charged or have my order shipped. Multiple emails have been ignored. Order cancelled. I just bought World's Fastest Indian from Amazon instead and now that Netflix has B13 I'll just rent it. Pitiful customer service from HDnet. dpags 02-28-07, 09:48 AM Same here. Placed my order with them on 2/6 and nada. Screw them. Gonna see how easy it is to cancel from Hdnet and get it from Amazon, who has it in stock. mhinkley 02-28-07, 10:53 AM I got mine from HDnet...just had to call them up and they took care of it! Matt jwstegbauer 02-28-07, 11:37 AM IMHO, the PQ of District 13 Blu-Ray was high tier 1. Very Impressive!!! dpags 02-28-07, 12:37 PM Just got an email back from HDNet telling me they've been backordered on that title for a while. I canceled the order with them and just ordered it from Amazon who has it in stock. Can't wait to finally get this! Um... no. :) *stabs Blizzard Entertainment in the eye with a rusty ice pick* I've been using this username online for over 20 years (I'm an old old school Dungeons and Dragons player who thought it was unfair that all the good offensive magic in the game was fire-based...). --- Yes, you can set the audio and subtitles separately on the Banlieu 13/District B13 disc. I strongly recommend French audio with English subtitles, as the English dub is much weaker to the point of being jarring. Helps a bit if you're somewhat familiar with spoken French to catch some of the colloquialisms that don't quite come through the translation, but since the film is an action flick from start to finish, that's really not terribly necessary. :) applebook 08-16-07, 09:18 PM PQ = Outstanding, as good it gets, IMO. SQ = Excellent Movie = Very entertaining, lots of amazing stunts that leave you stunned, not much plot or character development but this is an 80-min pure action film. The English subs indeed sound badly translated, but because the dialogue is essentially unimportant, I didn't care. A definite buy. TObject 08-16-07, 09:50 PM I have a copy, I think it is great. For the best experience, I recommend to see it in French. It is a very physical film. There is a lot of parkour. There is a reference to “Scarface”. There is a very long feature on the making of the movie, with actor interviews and stuff. shiznit 08-16-07, 09:58 PM yep, i quite enjoyed district b13! |
