I just got the Motorola DCT-6416 and am trying to configure it to best match up with my 36XS955 specs.
TV: Sony KD-36XS955
HD DVR: Motorola DCT-6416 Phase III
USER SETTINGS:
TV TYPE = 4:3 Letterbox
HDMI/YPbPr OUTPUT = 1080I
4:3 OVERRIDE = 480P
Additional HDMI Settings
HDMI/DVI MODE = HDMI
COLOR SPACE = RGB
AUDIO OUTPUT = AUTO
Resource for settings above (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use_a_Motorola_DVR/Setup)
Any comments or anyone find a better set of options?

Change the 4:3 OVERRIDE to 480i. In this case, the TV will upscale it via DRC and has a better scaler than the Motorola box. Plus I got my color space set to Y:C:C if I could remember. I am using a XBR970.

Remember this set will letterbox any HD signal and unfortunately this set letterboxes to a
1:75 aspect ratio. Directv HD signals are 1:85 and thus the picture looks squashed. Fortunately my Directv remote has a stretch option that remains unless you change the setting. The Sony vertical stretch option will do the same thing but as soon as you change the station or input it goes back to full which is letterbox 1:75.

Anyone else have user settings that they found work best with the 36XS955

With my Dish network hd box I need to use the S-video out of box into TV for flexibility watching 4:3 material. Count your blessings on having 480i overide.
