Hi,

I'm getting ready to build an HTPC. As a first step, I picked up an HDHomeRun, and I've got it connected to my laptop (Acer Ferrari 1000 running Ubuntu 6.10), and I've installed MYthTV 0.20 from the Ubuntu repository.

After two days of playing around, I've got TV listings set up, TV viewing working, DVD playback, weather, etc. Now, on to the problem:

When I watch HD TV, regardless of whether it's live or recorded, most channels look fine. (Look great, in fact.) But, on some channels (seems to be my local NBC affiliate and CBS affiliate), about the right most 1/5 of the screen is a sold pink box. It totally obstructs the view of that portion of the screen. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Also, I think it's an HDHomeRun issue, as the same problem occurred before I even installed MythTV. As a sanity check, I just tried streaming one HS channel via VLC. That also showed the problem.

Anyone have any clues for me?

Thanks,

-Mark

Turns out, this is a problem w/ Xv overlays and ATI.

I tried the standard ATI binary driver packaged w/ Ubuntu 6.10, the latest/greatest binary driver downloaded from ATI, and the open source 'radeon' driver packaged w/ X.Org. All of them had the same problem.

When I did:
aticonfig --overlay-type=opengl
or
aticonfig --overlay-type=disable

the problem went away, but then the video is so slow it's painful.

So, bottom line, when you build your Linux-based HTPC, use an NVIDIA card!

(I'm going w/ a GeForce 6200 based card for my purposes.)
