View Full Version : 80GB iPod -> 8UK plasma: video distortion?

I bought an inexpensive A/V out cable (mini-phone to 3-way RCA) for my video ipod, for convenience in playing back mp4 vids on my 50" panny 8UK. I know it won't be great resolution--I'm OK with that. But when the cable arrived and I connected it thru my receiver (which outputs to the plasma via composite) the video shows severe haze and prominent ghosting.

The multiple ghost images trail off to the right of the main image. Even the ipod-native ">" indicator and the battery-charge icon that display momentarily when you start playback are subject to this. The picture is also fuzzy, as if you were looking thru a grease-smeared window.

Because of the icons, I know it isn't the particular mp4 encoding that's at fault here. My main suspicion is that it's just a lousy composite cable, but I wondered if there's some other setting on either the iPod or TV that I am neglecting.

Previously, composite video has worked fine on this setup (with my old SD DVD and VCR), and it continues to do so. NTSC/PAL and Widescreen Off/On options under iPod 'video settings' do not seem to affect the problem.

Posting both here and in the flatscreen forum...any ideas?

have you tried hooking directly to the plasma.
