I'm looking for a IR receiver for my Myth box. I've seen this http://tekgems.com/Products/tg-pbr.htm receiver recommended. Is this my best bet? I plan on using a Harmony 880 remote. Thanks.

LIRC seems to be quite tolerant of different IR receivers, so if someone has said that this one works, then it probably does, even if it doesn't work the $5 is not that great a loss.

I built a serial port receiver for nothing but recycled parts, which is what I'd reccomend if you are a bit handy with an iron.

An old VCR is an excellent source of parts for an IR receiver.

Thanks. I think I may order one and give it a try, then.

In the meantime, I may try building my own. I'm a little shaky though and the pins on the serial port plug look pretty small, though. :)

Don't know if it's your best bet or not but I've got 2 of them hooked up and working on Knoppmyth. The remotes are OK but don't have anough buttons for me so I use a different remote with the receiver on one machine. oersonally, I think the receiver alone is worth the $5.

Ok. That's what I was looking for. I really had no interest in the remote, I just wanted the receiver. Just wanted to make sure that would receiver would work fine with other remotes. Thanks.

wow, at $5, that's worth a flier...

note that it uses a serial connection (db9). Make sure your PC has one. My miniPC system doesn't and lots of notebooks don't either...

I have a usb/serial adapter that I was planning to use. I'm assuming this will work. Is that the case?
