View Full Version : Picture of Hopefully Last XBR970 Problem
Dax-The-Ax 02-14-07, 12:54 AM I have made the bent left corner issue pretty good, now when watching widescreen movies, there is a line of red at the top left corner. It is about 7 inches long and about 1/16 wide. I am familiar with the service menu. Any adjustments to fix this, I tried adjusting all of the Landing settings to no avail.
SkateZilla 02-14-07, 03:47 AM Welcome to Convergence Issues, Lol, I Have a Similar Problem in All 4 corners, when I Have the tech come out to repair my KV30HS420 I hope He Aligns the colors with magnets.
like.no.other. 02-14-07, 09:46 AM Just overscan it. No big deal.
RWetmore 02-14-07, 11:53 AM Yup - can only be fixed with magnets.

Worst. Advice. Ever. What, do you want him to overscan away 7 inches? lolwtf.
You might be able to correct this somewhat with convergence settings in the Service menu. If not, magnet adjustment is the ticket. Now, finding someone competent enough to do it well... that's another story.

Look how small it is. I think he meant 7 inches long from left to right. Putting this
in overscan is industry's standard for refurbished/used item that has a little minor
defect.
SurfingMatt27 02-17-07, 12:15 AM With CRT's Convergance will never be perfect in the corners, it's just th nature of the technology.
sure you can make it look less noticeable but it won't be perfect.

He did mean 7 inches long from left to right, but if you look at the pic, the line starts a few inches down from the top of the screen. It's not right at the top. Adjusting Overscan vertically or horizontally is not going to help here.

Option 1: Call Sony and tell them that you need a new yolk.
Option 2: Wait for SED.

SED = Stupid idea that keeps delaying.
FED = Thin CRT quality.
SED = Stupid idea that keeps delaying...
Hardly a stupid idea, but the "keeps delaying" part, unfortunately, is right on the money.

If the manufacturers wants to keep it a serious business, they should be pushing
the technology now and stop messing around with demos to keep the consumers
waiting for a technology that doesn't have a price point and release date.
If the manufacturers wants to keep it a serious business...
It's now down to Canon as the only manufacturer of the technology.
I believe the last delay was caused by the questionably legal, joint-venture relationship of Canon and Toshiba to manufacture the technology together.

Dax-The-Ax 02-19-07, 10:59 PM How do you adjust overscan in the service menu? Yes, the defect is only about 1/8 wide at it's biggest point. Can I slightly adjust overscan?

Turn the TV off. Press Display, 5, Volume Up, Power On. Use 1-4 to search for VSIZ and use 3-6 to adjust the level. After you are done press mute and enter to write it.
VSIZ - Vertical Size
VPOS - Vertical Position
HSIZ - Horizontal Size
HPOS - Horizontal Position
or just go to the settings and adjust vertical correction on user menu.
Dax-The-Ax 02-20-07, 07:12 PM Like No Other, This doesn't work while watching widescreen . Some of My HD DVD's are widescreen and that's when I can see it, not in full screen. How do I adjust the picture within the top and bottom black bars of widescreen. Damn, I figured this would be an easy fix.

RyanHomsey 02-21-07, 01:59 PM I had a similiar issue (I think) when I adjusted tilt too far (I havent touched the service menu yet, probably wont because I am satisfied with it currently). I backed off on the tilt and it "covered" the problem up.

Put a picture up with the whole TV showing and show me the problem from there.
