My 27" SDTV is going bad and I am thinking about replacing it with a HDTV. Because of my current situation I do not want anything bigger at the moment. But the thing is I would mostly be using the TV for non-HD things. The only thing I would be using on it for HD right now would be xbox 360.

So Im wondering what the best 27" CRT HDTV is for keeping standard definition clean as well as things like compressed video in divx/xvid format, old video games that arent in HD etc. If there arent any that can't keep these low res/compressed formats clean looking how they are on a regular SDTV then I probably won't bother.

The Samsung SlimFit 27" TX-S2782HX looks nice but I have heard the slimfit TVs have issues with geometry and other things so I dont know if i want to take a risk there.

I figured if sony has one it'd probably be the best but I cant even find a Sony 27" CRT HDTV

With the objectives in mind as you've stated them, maybe you should get one of the new SDTV units with both analog and digital tuners. You'll get a better picture that way but won't be paying for HD.

HDTV's aren't really designed for the best analog performance. They are tweaked for maximum PQ from a HD source. And as a result, analog performance suffers, it's normally worse then what you've been used to seeing if you have/had a good performing SD CRT. Or maybe if your lucky, SD will be fair-to-ok looking on an HDTV, depends on your analog source. A DVD made from a good quality, clean master will generally be the best looking analog source displayed on an HDTV.

If your viewing habits are such that your still watching much more SD than HD, you may want to just replace your 27" analog set and wait a little longer till your watching more HDTV before purchasing an HDTV. Even waiting just another year-and-a-half gets you a better performing set for the same, or less money than buying one today. And like what harpeth said, you can save a good amount of money by just buying an SD set.

HDTVs, particularly, LCD versions, have some new, forthcoming advances that should be noticeably increasing their PQ. But those technologies have yet to be incorporated into the majority of LCD screens that are being sold today.

And Sony still makes a 27" CRT SDTV, which now incorporates an ATSC digital tuner.

Well I will be using 360 on it and eventually other HD sources but I will also be needing it for things like divx and regular DVDs for a long time to come most likely
