I'm not one to usually chime in here, just lurk and gain info to help with the next purchase. I don't have a question or statement, more of an experience.

I bought a Panny AE700 just about 2 years ago and was wowwed by it. Have it at about 95". Now, not so much - Tired of the goofy colors, the iris clunking. BUT, it was a great entry level projector for me, especially for the price.

I am ready to step up a grade and have been eagerly awaiting the RS1 and comments, reviews, etc......

I recently bought a Dell MP5100 for my work. We do a lot of training and the programs we use are screen real estate intensive, so I wanted a projector that matched my dell laptop resolution - 1400 x 1050. The dell is a DLP, with 3000 Lumens, 2000:1 contrast ratio (box specs).

I took it home the day it came in and plugged it in to the DVD player and put on "Cars".

HOLY SCHNIKES!!!! I have been mezmo-ized by the light! I could not beleive the PUNCH that having expendable brightness gives. Let me qualify this projector by saying that there was a tremendous amount light spill and the video processing was horrible (lots of mosquito-ish noise). The colors were great right out of the box and resolution/detail (aside from not be widescreen) was fantastic.

I was so taken back, that I am having trouble using my existing Panny, for the entire lack of PUNCH - it feels like I have to work at watching something that feels so dim now. The dell was "fun" in a way to watch. The picture was, as opposite to my panny, not washed out.

I am now second guessing the the whole D-ILA thing now with so much talk of dimmness and low lumens. Maybe it is made up for with the CR????

I hate this "hobby" - eternal fence riding. eternal hoping for the next better thing :(

I know what you mean...but I'm coming sorta from the opposite end...but ultimately I want the same thing as you. Nice bright/punchy high resolution images with little to no artifacts .

I have an older yet bright 720/768 class pj which was originally paired with a 118" screen. Well for my room i wanted a larger screen and I also wanted to replace my 6+year old plv-60 lcd pj. So back last summer, knowing i'd be buying a 1080p pj soon, I went ahead and installed a 133" screen. But since all the 1080pj's that were in the works were kinda short of lumens I decided to go with a Da-Lite High Power screen to compensate for the lack of raw lumens.

Even with my old pj being ceiling mounted and going from a 118" to 133" there are scenes that are really almost too bright. So I'm confident that I can find good middle ground with the RS-1 as it specs out in normal lamp mode at about half the lumens as my plv-60 which only has one lamp mode. I'm planning to mount the RS-1 in the rear wall as opposed to the ceiling which should get me more gain to work with if I should need it.

From what I've read/seen...other than maybe the Optoma you almost have to have a positive gain screen if you want 1080p and screen much bigger than 110".

I think you're a great candidate for an InFocus 777/333.
I'm not sure if Alan still has some for sale but you can inquire within.

Lack of brightness is the biggest weakness that modern projectors have.
Lots of lumens + quality projection = $$,$$$ ;)
