View Full Version : 'The Prestige' review up at HDD tauheel05 02-14-07, 01:19 PM It got 5 stars for PQ. Can't wait. dpags 02-14-07, 01:20 PM Excellent, next week can't come soon enough. SetterP 02-14-07, 01:22 PM Superb!! AVC MPEG-4 and 48 kHz/24-bit PCM track. I can't wait, sounds like reference material for sure!!!! hassoon 02-14-07, 01:22 PM Confirmed must have :) . Preordered from Buy.com along with The Departed. Good times :D! joerod 02-14-07, 01:23 PM I got mine pre ordered from Amazon Baby! Brajesh 02-14-07, 01:24 PM This is a blind buy for me based on good reviews. I liked 'The Illusionist', but I hear this is even better. tkbryant 02-14-07, 01:25 PM This has been a friggin great month for releases & it just keeps getting better. One of the best films of 06 gets one of the best transfers of 07. I loved this film and as Peter says it does make you want to watch it again and I have been waiting for this version to do just that. :) btf1980 02-14-07, 01:26 PM Man, i'm gonna have to take out a second mortgage with all these releases. MrB84 02-14-07, 01:29 PM Looks like my high expectations have been for a reason, let's keep the good movies coming out! :D Earz 02-14-07, 01:50 PM Looked good in theaters...and sounds like its that much better on BD. Great movie also IMO. mrgoochman 02-14-07, 01:51 PM link to the review: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/prestige.html SyHD 02-14-07, 01:58 PM This is probably a great reference title for Blu-ray ...it doesn't hurt either to have an Oscar nomination for cinematography. eXgo 02-14-07, 02:00 PM He says it is as good PQ as Batman Begins, hmm. wasn't that flick uber soft? :D patrick99 02-14-07, 02:03 PM He says it is as good PQ as Batman Begins, hmm. wasn't that flick uber soft? :D Yes it was. He also says recent BVHE BDs have been outstanding, which doesn't correspond to my experience. eXgo 02-14-07, 02:11 PM ^^^^Bump Porscheboy16 02-14-07, 02:34 PM Glad I pre-ordered months ago. Schlotkins 02-14-07, 02:42 PM This is the first movie I'll be watching when I unwrap my PS3 on my b-day... too bad it's 2 months away. I guess I can stare at the box. :) hassoon 02-14-07, 03:00 PM This is the first movie I'll be watching when I unwrap my PS3 on my b-day... too bad it's 2 months away. I guess I can stare at the box. :) Life is short ;) . :D dpags 02-14-07, 03:02 PM This is the first movie I'll be watching when I unwrap my PS3 on my b-day... too bad it's 2 months away. I guess I can stare at the box. :) Dude, bust it open. you know you want to! :) Schlotkins 02-14-07, 03:07 PM Dude, bust it open. you know you want to! :) Oh, you know I do. However, I think I'd rather wait those 2 months than sleep on the couch those two months. :) Earz 02-14-07, 03:11 PM He says it is as good PQ as Batman Begins, hmm. wasn't that flick uber soft? :D Yes...Batman is most definitely soft....and the most overrated movie (picture quality wise) on all of HD. Lets hope its not that soft looking :) Adam_ME 02-14-07, 03:38 PM I've got it preordered from Amazon. I never saw it, but I loved Memento and Batman Begins, so Chris Nolan warrants a blind buy. Plus Buena Vista's been kicking some ass lately, so I have no doubt it'll look and sound incredible. dpags 02-14-07, 04:20 PM Oh, you know I do. However, I think I'd rather wait those 2 months than sleep on the couch those two months. :) Yeah, I guess we all have to have priorities. Having said that...BREAK IT OPEN! :D Wendell R. Breland 02-14-07, 04:32 PM The Prestige has some serious Audio Format options. * English PCM 5.1 Surround (48kHz/24-Bit) * English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround * French Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround * Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Joe Linn 02-14-07, 04:35 PM When I saw The Prestige in the theater, the audio went out at the end when all is revealed. I had to go home and Google "Prestige spoiler" to find out how it ended. I can't wait to actually hear the ending. Yet another reason I prefer watching movies at home. Joe Fettastic 02-14-07, 04:49 PM The guy has a history of being blown away by practically everything he sees. I'm sure it's a nice disc, but he gets carried away. patrick99 02-14-07, 05:19 PM Yes...Batman is most definitely soft....and the most overrated movie (picture quality wise) on all of HD. Lets hope its not that soft looking :) Let's hope. Unfortunately the trailer on other BD discs doesn't look overwhelming in terms of PQ. tbass2k 02-14-07, 05:20 PM The guy has a history of being blown away by practically everything he sees. I'm sure it's a nice disc, but he gets carried away. ROTFLMAO, you got that right Fett. We have to be critical (so studios don't slack on the transfers) with releases but at the same time give credit where credit is due....Batman was highly over-rated on the HD-DVD front. At any rate, the Prestige is one of the tightest movies I have ever seen, and I will definitely be picking this up since I just got a PS3 the other day. Christopher Nolan is now one of my favorite director's of all time, even with his small catalog. This guy makes movies the way I always wished someone would: movies that make you think but not to the point of utter frustration and confusion where you say, "screw this!" instead, I want to watch them over and over again to digest everything. I never get sick of Memento. patrick99 02-14-07, 05:24 PM ROTFLMAO, you got that right Fett. We have to be critical (so studios don't slack on the transfers) with releases but at the same time give credit where credit is due....Batman was highly over-rated on the HD-DVD front. Giving the wrong signal to the studios is absolutely the reason why it bothers me so much that the softness of BB is so widely overlooked. If they think they can get away with that they will just keep on doing it. acave_uk 02-14-07, 05:44 PM On the subject of softness. People in real life are not pin sharp lol I guess you folks all have digital PJs ;) Just ordered my copy. on HD-DVD well, both actually tbass2k 02-14-07, 05:51 PM On the subject of softness. Or did you order the import version? SyHD 02-14-07, 05:57 PM I would to see someone compare the Blu-ray version here to that of the European HD DVD version of The Prestige. It will interesting to see if there is a difference in quality since the BD version is BD-50/AVC MPEG-4/PCM. Warner is distributing The Prestige in Europe.
