Hello Friends,
I am unable to find the car kit for Samsung helix ya-cp100 in most of the online stores? Why is that so? Will the car kit for pioneer inno fit the samsung helix? Can anyone suggest any other car kit for the samsung helix?

I just purchased the Samsung Helix and couldn't find a car kit either, not even on Ebay. I found your post while I was hunting. Thought you might like to know, if you don't already, that the car kit for the Pioneer Inno works just fine. I just installed the car kit this afternoon with no problems. I didn't try the included remote yet, but I already had one that came with the Helix.

The remote works fine. I use a Helix home kit with my Inno and the remote works there too. They are almost completely interchangable--very minor differences.

According to myradiostore (http://www.myradiostore.com/home-car-kits/for-samsung-helix-kit/car-kit-samsung-helix-ya-cp100.html), the car kit for the Helix has been discontinued. They recommend using the car kit for the Inno 2.

Ah, that makes sense since all new car kits needs to be "SureConnect", maybe they never bothered to make the Helix kit a SureConnect version then.

Why not go to the XM "cart" in a mall and buy one???

...and, isn't the Pioneer usuable as well?

Wait why would they discontinue it? How long has the Helix been out? I just bought one last week...

someone at myradiostore.com said the inno car kit doesn't fit the Helix properly -- its not a "snug" fit and can become loose while driving. Can someone confirm this?

thanks.

I just bought a Samsung Helix and received it today. I was going through the same search for the car kit and found none for sale. I searched everywhere trying to find out if the Helix is the same as the Pioneer Inno1 or is it the equivalent of the Inno2 and find no one anywhere mentions this fact at all. I read the mentions to the Pioneer Inno Car Kit2 and that it works with all the iterations of the Inno1, Inno2 and Samsung Helix, so I jumped and ordered that version of the car kit2. I am waiting for it to arrive in the mail still. I wanted it to enable the use of the FM Modulator for both home and car use.

When I get it, I will find out how snug or not snug a fit it is to the Helix.
I will also then proceed to open it up and figure out what pins to short or open or tie together with resistor values to enable the FM Modulator to work and apply same to my home dock. Shame I had to pay for a full car kit to do this...:-(

Well, I did get the FM modulator samsung ya-cp100 a long time ago. However, the FM modulator sucks because it is not getting good frequency to transmit at. there is always some disturbance. I would like to get a wired connection. any suggestions for this? Has someone used a pie adapter? I looked at the XM5 adapter but the person at myradiostore told me that I would have to keep the samsung helix in the trunk of the car since the XM5 adapter doesn't have long wires.

I just received my car dock today for my Samsung Helix. I got the Pioneer Inno Car Kit2 from Amazon.com. I took out the car kit base dock and hooked it up as a home dock (using the power adapter and XM antenna from the home dock). Plugged in my Helix. It fits snug in the slot but it can be tilted forward, so that is what I guess people mean when they say it is not a snug fit. It is a snug fit, just that that it is not locked into place by any tabs anywhere.

As for the FM modulator on this unit, all I can say is WOW! It is not a weak FM transmitter! It broadcasts all over my two story house! Unlike my Sirius Stiletto S100 which only broadcasts a few feet away, the Samsung Helix is much stronger. I don't know how you are getting weak signal from your car installation, unless there are differences between bases and units. You said you had the original Samsung car dock, I have the new Pioneer Inno2 Car dock with SureConnect (whatever that gimmick is). I did not even use the SureConnect Cable or whatever it is yet (all the parts are still in the new box!) I only took out the car dock part and using it indoors for now. It is broadcasting FM signal from my first floor living room all the way up to my rooftop antenna! I would say my next door neighbors will be able to receive my XM radio Helix broadcasts if they knew where to tune in to. Gotta love it... and I only paid $99 plus shipping for this Samsung Helix... it used to cost $299 to $399 when it came out last year? Dang! As for sound quality, it is okay, just okay. My Polk XRT-12 XM Reference tuner sounds the best (both line out and optical out). No XM Radio I have heard sounds better than the Polk component tuner, not even the Helix nor Inno. Sirius Stiletto has a better sound overall IMHO than the Helix, but still cannot match the audio SQ I can get with the Polk XM tuner.

I have yet to crack open my car dock to compare with my home dock to see what enables the FM modulator to work on the car dock and not the home dock. By the way, if you plug in the line out audio jack to feed your stereo direct from, the car dock, it disables the FM modulator. You have to leave the line out jack unplugged to use the FM transmitter feature. That's all for now.

Seems to be no interest in this thing. Anyway, too bad. I am now listening to XM Radio shows in my home on all my FM receivers/radios using the included Home Dock kit. It took me alittle while to figure out the circuitry after opening both car kit and home kit and comparing them. They are quite different from each other. The home kit has alot more extra circuitry components for what seems to be a voltage regulator and buffered audio line outs using an op amp which the car dock does not have. I would venture to say that it is quite too complex for the common masses. It cost me extra $$ to buy all these acessories but now I am in business and can listen to it through out my house. :-)

Why not just buy an FM modulator and hook it up to the home kit? Then at least it will still do scheduled records, too.

Hi, do you mean that the Helix and Inno schedule Recording function will not work when the FM Modulator is enabled or in the car dock? I have not tested every feature of my new Helix. But I just tried to schedule a recording in the modified home dock and it did not work. The time came to start recording and nothing happened. If this is because of the FM modulator enabled, then I have to put an on/off switch in place. Also noticed that the home dock will no longer cause the Battery Charging words to show up on the Helix LCD screen when the FM modulator is enabled, so I think it essentially becomes a car dock and won't charge the battery also. Hmmm, time to go to Radio Shack and find a tiny on/off switch.

If ths is indeed the case, then an on/off switch mod in the car dock might also enable it to charge in the car and also schedule recordings. Hint to the modsters!

Bye.

I would really like to know what I need to do to make my Helix play through an FM frequency with as few components from the car kit as possible. I talked with someone from XM and they said that older versions of the helix had an FM Modulator that did not require the car kit. I want to know how this works. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks

when you boot up your Helix, and the XM logo shows up, there is a v # at the bottom left.
That is your firmware version. If it says v 1.05, you are in luck as the internal FM modulator is still activated.
If it is above 1.05, the FM mod has been disabled unless in a Inno or Helix car kit. There is no way around it.
If your version is 1.10 or higher, i suggest getting the latest version for, ware there is...2.11.
It solves a ton of bugs like battery issues.
You can get it here:

Question,
Would I be able to just buy a regular FM transmitter for MP3 players such as the Monster RadioPlay FM transmitter to adapt for my vehicle? My car antenna is broken so I cannot use the car kit anyway. Then I can use the On the Go feature to broadcast and I can use a power inverter to keep the unit charged.

Any thoughts?

are you still getting a good XM signal with the antenna broken? I would replace that if I were you.
It is cheap and saves a ton of headaches.

I would think that any aftermarket FM transmitter would work.
I would invest in an Inno car kit if you want to use the Helix in the car.
Just my thought.

My regular car antenna is broken (vandalized by someone), not the XM antenna. The Inno2 car kit attaches physically to the antenna so I can't do that. It'll cost hundreds of dollars to replace the car antenna because it runs from the window along the panel down under the hood. They'd have to take the side of the car apart to replace it.

So instead of spending hundreds of dollars to get my antenna fixed and buying the car kit, I thought I could try a FM transmitter.
