View Full Version : Mits HC5000 won't sync to HD-DVD at 1080i
Dallas777 02-14-07, 09:31 PM Novice DVP owner here. I have a new Mits HC5000BL that I bought from Jason.
I cannot get it to sync correctly to my Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player at 1080i.
720p works and looks great, but when I try to set the Mits menu to accept a 1080i signal from the A2 to compare, the colors go "weird" and major out of wack.
My Dish Network VIP211 satellite receiver syncs correctly at 1080i, and the PQ is great.
I am using a HDMI cable from BetterCables.com and switching HDMI via my new Marantz SR8001 receiver.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Woof Woof 02-14-07, 09:54 PM I am using the XA2 and switched through a Yamaha RXV2700
OEM cables from my AV shop
- 2m from XA2 to AV amp
- 8m from AV amp to HC5000
1080p/1080i/720p works perfectly
I haven't upgraded the firmware or anything, but it might be worth checking if there is a new one available.

Does anyone know how to check the firmware? I thought it would be in: Menu / Info, but it's not.
I think the current version is supposed to be 3??? I've just had the machine for 5 days, so hopefully it has the latest.
I'm just curious more than anything, as the Mits does do 1080i from the satellite receiver.
Potetgullmannen 02-15-07, 12:17 PM I got my Toshiba HD E1 (Eurpean version of A2) connected with a pretty long HDMI cable from Bettercables and it works with no problem in 1080i with my Mitsu HC 5000. I connect straight into the projector, and not through a receiver. Wonderful picture - and you really have to work this out because the Mitsu does an incredible job of de-interlacing to 1080i into 1080p - (as you already know with your satellite receiver.)
I have had that problem wth DENON and PIONEER receivers. Try taking the HDMI feed from the DVD player and go directly to the projector.
Im betting that it will work. It has something to do with HDMI compatibility on the receiver is what the guys at Pioneer told me at CES. Like I said I have used Denon 3806's and its given the same probelem. Pioneer said its becuase the HDMI "data" in the projector shows the receiver something differnt then it would if it was hooked up to a TV or monitor type display. I thought that sounded kinda hokey becuase a projector is a monitor and should be exactly the same communication as a TV or Monitor.

Thats exactly what I mean.....Somthing weired when trying this through a receiver.
Actually now that I think about it I think its becuase the receiver cant passthrough 1080p signals.....As Pioneer did mention to me that the new "16" series receives are 1080p compatible so I bet that your receiver's HDMI cant pass 1080p as it will 720p.
this might be a dumb question, but does the HD-A1 HD DVD player output 1080P ?

Thanks Vic. That was my next step to try tonight. I'm hoping that after it does sync, I'll be able to route it back thru the receiver and it will still sync. Kind of tricking the Mits. Although, that could be wishful thinking.

Not correct. I have the brandy-new Marantz SR8001. It's supposed to do 1080p.

No it does not.
Neither does my HD-A2.
Toshiba is coming out with a $599 msrp unit in a month or 2 that ouputs 1080p.
Would you like to buy a low-mileage A2??? :)
Blippy2005 02-15-07, 03:16 PM I have a HD-A1 and am running it through a Gefen 4x2 matrix switcher (with mirror) to the Mistubishi HC-5000. Works fine on my end at 1080I, though if I turn on the HD-A1 without the projector on and the matrix switcher already set to the right input, then the HD-A1 losses the HDMI sync and i have to shut it off and turn it back on again.
Dallas777 02-15-07, 09:07 PM For those folks experiencing a similar dilemma, my plan worked.
I connected the HD-DVD player directly to the Mits and it was able to set & lock the 1080i signal.
The setting stayed, and it was able to sync after I routed the HDMI cables thru the receiver.
Jason Turk 02-15-07, 09:11 PM I was just checking in. Glad you got it working. Let me know if you need any assitance. Oh, thanks again for the business.

Oh no, Jason. Thank YOU!
Again, A/V Science had the very best price on my new projector.
Just like you guys had the best price when I bought my Runco CRT projector from Alan Gouger, way back in 2000.
A/V Science & AVSForum Rocks!
Thanks again!
