Umatter2Charter 01-10-12, 01:32 PM Umatter, can you provide a comparison of the multi-room functionality of the Motorola Dcx-3400 to the Tivo? I understand there are some significant differences. For instance, with the Tivo you can pause and rewind live tv in the extra rooms but access to material on other units is achieved by transfer as opposed to direct access. This becomes an issue with copy protected material. Is this correct?
Good afternoon,
That is correct as each unit is itself a DVR, but has the ability to stream content from other Tivos. That is the main difference along with the streaming capabilities and guide. You also have the option of controlling the Charter Tivo through your iphone/ipad and programming it online with the Online DVR Manager.

I assume this means that the multiple Tivo units communicate with each other within the context of the home network as opposed to the MoCA technology that the Motorolas use. If that's the case, will Charter be supplying wireless adapters (and at what cost) or do the Premiere units have them built in?

In order to replay the TIVO recorded material on another set in a different room .. are 2 or more TIVOs required .. ?? Thanks

Good Evening,
To play material in a second room you can either:
* Have 2 TiVo Premieres that work as additional boxes but can also record independantly
* Have a TiVo Premiere in one room and a TiVo Preview in another room. The Preview essentially works like a satellite HD Box. It cannot record but it can communicate with the Premiere and play TV like a normal box
Did you have any other questions we could assist with?
Thanks,
Dylan

I currently have the Moto DVR in one room and the Moto HD Box in another .. if,l when the TIVO becomes available, I should be able to swap those two boxes for the new TIVO DVR and Preview Box .. and get second room capability .. ??
And, will the monthly cost be the same .. ? Thanks

We can't actually quote cost until the product actually launches. You would definitely be able to do that though and have multi-room capabilities :)

The best method of networking is to be determined by the installer. A network connection is required for the multiroom function. This can be accomplished through our home networking product, a powerline network product, or through Tivo wireless adapters. The technician will work with you to determine the best configuration as well as any possible charges that could be incurred.

elgibby 01-16-12, 07:59 AM I'm starting to have what I assume are signal issues again; seems like an annual event.
Since about Thursday, programming on CBS/784 and Fox/782 (what I've noticed so far) have had audio dropouts and video freezes. Happened all during football on Saturday night, etc.
I'm in 63118. Anybody else experiencing this?

elgibby, we have also experienced small freezes & audio dropouts...
was going to complain to charter, but wife suggested it might be the broadcast out of St. Louis.
I know Channel 782 shows it's coming in @ 720p resolution
We have been having problems with Internet dialog boxes saying the internet seems to have stopped working...
It's a hassle but if i hit the upper right X box to close that dialog box it usually refreshes it....
It happens too much though.. Is this a Charter switching delay or what. ??
jonesbc19 01-24-12, 07:40 AM I'm wondering if it is possible to get 2 multi-room DVRs installed plus an additional receiver and have all 3 boxes with the ability to access all recorded programming? Currently with DirecTV (Whole Home DVR service) I have the ability to record on both DVRs and still be able to watch content on any of them without issue. Is this possible with Charter's setup?

My issues were apparently at the source, as some satellite TV users were reporting similar problems. I had a service call scheduled via UMatter, but I cancelled it when the problems vanished.
Re the Internet: Not sure. I get periods where the connection is unstable, but it's not predictable.

Good afternoon,
Thanks for your inquiry, unfortunately this configuration is not available. We are however working with the manufacturer to allow customer's to expand the memory of the primary DVRs through ESATA.
George
jonesbc19 01-26-12, 03:42 PM That is very disappointing; it appears Charter is severely behind the competition when it comes to multi-room/whole home technology. Those limitations will have me opting out of the multi-room set up in favor of 2 separate DVRs.

Good afternoon,
I am very sorry to hear about the trouble with MR DVRs so soon after their installation. How the MR DVR works is that you will set up your recordings on the primary DVR and then access from the secondary boxes.
If you cannot access the recordings from the primary box, unplug all the boxes, plug in the primary first, and let it load a few mins. Then plug in the secondaries, and let them load for a few minutes.
Let me know if this helps. If it doesn't I can certainly assist futher.
Thanks,
Jeremy

I had a similar issue this past weekend. It was tracked down to a failing splitter messing with the signal. The splitter was for my original Series 1 which no longer functions. We took the splitter out of the equation and the solid amber light was back.

Umatter2Charter 02-03-12, 06:26 PM My MOXI clock has been about a minute slow the last couple of days, even after a reboot. Anyone else?
Good evening, this is an interesting scenario. Here are a few questions that would be helpful to ask:
1. How did you determine that the clock is about a minute slow?
2. Are you comparing the MOXI clock to another device? If so, what other device?
3. If the clock is slow, that would lead us to believe that recordings would miss the beginning of shows. Is this the case on all channels?
Thank you,
Abby
1&2. Compared to NIST-synched clock just now - about 50 seconds off.
3. Yes.

Old Ram Fan 02-04-12, 11:50 PM Hi George, Seems the issues have mostly stopped.
Tried to copy the dialog box & send it to you [about the internet seems to have stopped working] but it wouldn't allow me to copy it to clipboard.
1 issue that has popped up; the satelitte on our multi-room Moto has frozen in pause mode if i hit the stop button on remote after the show has run it's length. & the only way to recover control of unit is to unplug the power to it, for a reset..
Any ideas on this ????
Now if i just let all the end of show commercials run out naturally it will usually return to either live TV or the recording LIST....
Hope i didn't confuse you too much with this..

Hello Old Ram Fan,
Sorry to see that you are still having some trouble. Your modem signals are good, but if you could write down what's in the dialog box we can help investigate further. In regards to the Satellite Box, make sure that the Primary DVR is connected and powered ON and then turn the Satellite Box OFF and then ON again to resolve the issue. Freezing may occur if the Primary DVR loses power while the Satellite Box is playing a recording. If you continue to have these issues please let us know. We may need to have a technician out to take a closer look.
Thank you,
Abby
CraigM1956 02-07-12, 02:43 PM I have an unusual issue that just started recently. When I power off my DCX3501, the standby light goes dark after about 20 seconds. When it's in this deep sleep state (or whatever it is), my timed recording don't get recorded because it never wakes up to record them. Is there a setting for this? Charter suggested a new box but I just swapped out in January because the audio stopped working. Anyone have any ideas?

I swapped out the multi-box in the basement for the one in my Den that was giving me the problems.
It seems that has solved my problem of the lock-ups.
Thanks for working with me on solving this problem...
As for you swapping out the troubled box , that's not necessary right now as the basement uint is not used as much & i'll just let the recordings play all the way to the end on it...

ocntscha 02-16-12, 10:18 PM My wife gave me a Tivo Premier XL for Christmas. I figured it would be a major ordeal taking multiple phone calls and multiple tech visits to get this working and haven't called Charter yet because I'm still trying to psyche myself up for the battle.
However, I recently learned that Charter offers a self install kit that comes with a cable card and tuning adapter, Woo Hoo! My wife is going to call them tomorrow about getting the self install kit.
Researching it all tonight though I ran across something that has got me worried. Anybody know, am I going to run into the same problem as this guy trying to use my Tivo Premier XL with St. Louis Charter?..

I have this setup on a PC running Win 7 with a Charter cable card and its working fine. You can use whatever space you have available hard drive wise with no limitation. The only limitations come in when you look at the copy/copy once etc when burning to a disk...I don't normally do this so haven't researched that part much.
Live TV/Recorded TV runs through Media center and generally run into little issues. Only issue in general was on setup - took Charter a bit to figure out how to get a signal sent to activate so went around a bit with that but that may be cleaned up by now...all in all i'm happy with the setup...
oh and with Ceton's network app you can also use some of your tuners on other win 7 pc's on your network, you don't have to use all 4 on the same PC

Live TV/Recorded TV runs through Media center and generally run into little issues. Only issue in general was on setup - took Charter a bit to figure out how to get a signal sent to activate so went around a bit with that but that may be cleaned up by now...all in all i'm happy with the setup...
oh and with Ceton's network app you can also use some of your tuners on other win 7 pc's on your network, you don't have to use all 4 on the same PC

wh1stler 02-28-12, 07:29 AM I am still building my new desktop. i got everything but the cpu and motherboard. I think i will use the i7 cpu. im using a cooler master haf 922 case.
I just hope i can use a cable card and a tv antenna on windows media center.
I use wmc with a antenna only right now. and use my tivo hd for cable
also will my computer still hibernate with ceton card installed?
i7 will be more than enough horsepower, using an i3 with on board video and it handles it fine - someone else may need to chime in on the other questions, not sure if you can run antenna and ceton, may just need to have them both config but not sure how Live TV would pick up the channels. As far as Hibernate...I use mine as a DVR and live tv so have not tested if it does...its on 24x7
tootal2 02-28-12, 10:56 PM I going to be done building my new desktop this weekend. I went with a i5 2500k a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3. it has 4 sata 6 and 3 sata 3 ports:) and 3 pciex1 slots. So will have no problem installing a ceton cable card adaptor.
The ceton cable card adaptor is 200.00 right now:)
I always use hibernate. about 5 min before a shows starts my computer wakes up records it and then hibernates. it saves a lot of power.

To me this is a huge competitive advantage over other services. I'm too much of a tinkerer/control-freak to pay for a DVR, especially when I can use an open-source one for the channels I get.

Man... I have an HDHomeRun now and like the way it works, so I was looking at the HDHR Prime, but now the Ceton card is the same price with an extra tuner. I've got the slot, but right not it's not supported as well in MythTV. Tough decision.

Me, too (well, S3/sleep because my motherboard won't RTC wake when off). My remote frontend uses wake-on-lan to bring the master up. The only thing that would be an issue with powering-off is if I wanted MythWeb available all the time, but so far I've not enabled it outside my network just so I don't have to deal with security. That and I haven't screwed with the remote waking it up so I have to walk 5 feet and push the button if it's not on, but I'd feel pretty lazy if I left it on all the time just for that.
ocntscha 03-06-12, 03:18 PM Good evening,
I hope you enjoy your new Tivo and that everything goes smoothly for you. If you have any issues during the setup of the cable cards please send us a direct message and we can certainly help with whatever issues you come across.
Most of the reports that I have heard is that the process has had a lot of success.
Thank you,
JeremyI've been meaning to report back on how this went. To my pleasant surprise it couldn't have gone smoother! I picked up the tuning adapter and cable card from local Charter office, went home and hooked it up. At first it didn't work right, to be expected since I hadn't called Charter and told them to activate it yet. I went into the the kitchen, called Charter, on a Sunday afternoon no less, got a person within a minute or so, told her what I needed, she typed it in and said it should be workig now. I hung up the phone walked from the kitchen to the family room and wow! it was all working!
I do have a question though Umatter2Charter. I still need to return the Moxi DVR I was renting from Charter as I don't need it any longer. Can I just show up with it unannounced at my local Charter office and if so besides taking it from me can they alter the services I subscribe too right then and there at the Charter office too? Now that I'm using my own Tivo I can obviously return the Moxi and save $15/month on "DVR Equipment Upgrade & Service Fee" but additionally I'm thinking I can have them remove "Interactive Services; On-Screen Guide & Pay-Per-View and Digital Receiver" since I won't be needing or using any of that with my own Tivo. The only Digital Receiver I have of Charter's is the Moxi I need to return.
Thanks,
Tom
Umatter2Charter 03-06-12, 04:34 PM Good afternoon,
I am very glad to hear that everything went well with your installation. You certainly can return the MOXI to a local office. Make sure you get a receipt and keep it. They will also remove the codes that go along with the DVR service.
I hope you enjoy the new services and please let us know if you ever need any help.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Good morning,
We definitely appreciate your feedback. Channel tier placements are negotiated between that partiuclar network's ownership and Charter. We strive to give the customer the most value regardless of which tiers that they subscribe to. If you are interested and adding this tier of channels to your services please send a pm and we can get you set up.

I dont know ofter this happens.
they did give me hbo and showtime free for a year:) and refunded my money.
also with tivo you should not have to pay 3.00 a month for the guied info since tivo has there own guied.
how do the self install kits work? I might get one soon when i get my ceton cable card adaptor for windows media center.

There is no cable card limit. If a customer has a lot of devices, then sometimes we may need an amplifier to boost signals but otherwise I do not see any issues.

According to the words on this page a splitter should be used, but it looks like from the pictures both types of tuning adapters have an RF out and so shouldn't need a split. Can anyone comment on which of these are more prevalent in STL and whether the cable card device can use a connection passed-through the TA?

I have the Motorola TA and I do not have a splitter installed. The cable comes into the RF IN on the TA than from the RF OUT of the TA to the Cable connection on the TiVo. I also still have the USB connection. This was how Charter installed it when they started doing the TA rollout awhile back.
I'm not sure why a splitter would be needed or wanted.

Any news on adding the new Disney Jr. Channel to your HD lineup?
Or Nick Jr.??
Umatter2Charter 03-19-12, 08:22 PM Good evening,
Thanks for your interest in both of those channels. Thank you for taking time to let us know that you would like to see more Disney Junior programming. We’re pleased that you currently enjoy watching Disney Junior on Disney Channel from Charter, and value the family-orientated entertainment it provides.
Charter wants customers like you and your family to always have access to the shows and movies you want, at an affordable price. It’s our intent to work closely with Disney on a reasonable agreement to provide Disney Junior, The Channel to our customers.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Or Nick Jr.??
Thank you for taking the time to respond to me, the consumer, in such a timely fashion. Your cable service is important to me, as is the incredible entertainment you provide. My family wants you to have access to our money every month, and as such we are always in talks about how to best maximize our entertainment budget. It is our hope that Charter Communications will continue to provide an ever expanding lineup of quality channels for the whole family, in stunning high definition.

Just to keep looking ahead :)
The lack of NHL HD is irritating.
Is there a breakdown of what's included in what package?
I'm glad to see The Hub and TCM, and my wife will be glad to see OWN.
I would still love to get Disney Jr and Nick Jr in HD.
NHL Network would be great as well.
wh1stler 03-21-12, 09:29 AM I second the NHL network...why is this not available?
Also quick question - has anyone using the Ceton setup experienced problems after Microsoft rolls out its weekly patches? The past 2 updates all of my PC' either with the Ceton card in it or using a network tuner both report a tuner unavailable/conflict type message. I run through the setup within Media Center and then all is well.
Mostly just an annoyance...

RustySTL 03-21-12, 10:24 AM I'd still like to see BBCA in HD.
bunglebungle 03-21-12, 11:09 AM I'm just hearing about this and had some thoughts.
1A: Way to go on biting the bullet and renumbering everything, including sensibly corresponding numbering like 702, 704, 705, etc for the HD versions of the locals.
1B. It looks like a lot of the other HD channels are moving, too, so why not continue this and make the other HD channels correspond to the SD numbering? eg ESPN HD at 735, etc? I guess they are sort of grouped by tier instead.
2. I'm looking at the Maryville announement, but guessing really it's the same as here. Are NBC Sports and Cartoon network really swapping 54 and 45 or is that an error?
3. A while back the bitrate was really squashed, and then after some noise brought back up. It seems to have worsened a bit in the last couple of months - some channels have noticeable compression artifiacts - though not to the same level as before. Anyway, I hope that the addition of all of these HD channels doesn't worsen picture quality any more.
4. I'm guessing all the clear QAM mappings are changing, too?

1B: *Most* channels are grouped by tier so that if you subscribe to a tier you can go through all channels without jumping all over the lineup.
2: All reflected changes should be correct
3: We have been working hard to upgrade our networks so there should be no degredation with the additions.
4: Yes, all TV's using QAM will need to rescan.

I might have to harden my stance a bit and suggest quality be actively improved, not just prevented from getting worse. Louisville's red uniforms looked pretty bad in motion on the game last night. Maybe it's just Turner, but games on TBS and TNT have looked a lot worse than CBS. Look how macroblocked this ball is:

Basketball moves fairly fast so it's more noticeable but I know other channels have issues at times. Not as serious but occasionally distracting.

If history is any guide the QAM part of the "or" applies only to basic, and a "digital device" (STB) is required for the ones in expanded service.

Umatter - I received my channel lineup notice in the mail today. The 4 page letter that includes the detailed "was/is" report for channel locations showed new HD channels for Encore (670) and EPIX (685). I can't find either of these channels on the tier listing schedule that accompanied the letter. Did I just miss it?
Umatter2Charter 03-23-12, 01:49 PM Good afternoon wedweb,
We reached out to our marketing team and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Unfortunately this version of the new lineup is incorrect and will be corrected as soon as possible. Currently, all Basic channels are, and will continue to be, broadcast in Clear QAM with the ability to watch using a digital receiver, HD receiver, or TV with Digital QAM Tuner. All Expanded Basic Digital and HD channels will continue to require leased equipment from Charter to view. Please let us know if you have any additional questions and we’ll be more than happy to assist.
Thanks,
Jeremy

It will automatically continue recording the series on the new channel number. You can also check "future recordings" to verify that they are still set to record. Feel free to let us know if you have any other questions!

That may not be true for Moxi DVRs. Last time the lineup changed I had to redo everything. Maybe its fixed now. We'll see.

Good Morning,
We received an update and info from the headend. The picture that you're seeing can be affected by a number of issues. Typically, live sporting events including the super bowl have a higher amount of encoding issues as the entire production and encoding is done in a mobile uplink trailer with temporary feed lines on a temporary uplink which generally have a lower bandwidth availability than a studio production uplink.
They will monitor TNT and TBS but were not seeing any issues at the time that we notified them.
Additionally, picture quality can be affected by the type and quality of TV you have, TV’s with very large screens will show higher degrees of artifact.

Additionally, picture quality can be affected by the type and quality of TV you have, TV’s with very large screens will show higher degrees of artifact.
Thanks. Since there's a big re-org upcoming I'll wait for that to settle in and re-evaluate.
I do not it's not the TV since that's just a frame-grab of the raw video dump captured by my PVR.
JeffRand 03-27-12, 02:31 PM @Umatter2Charter, I've been hunting all over the Charter.com web site trying to find the cost of adding HBO to my existing services, but I can't find it quoted anywhere. And when I click on the SHOP button under Premium Subscriptions, it goes to a page called Bundle Builder and it says "Sorry, there are currently no promotions available for you."
I despise calling Charter because all I get are sales pitches for things I don't want. Can you just tell me how much extra it would cost to add HBO?
Edit: I live in Florissant, MO 63031
Thanks, Jeff

Good Afternoon,
Currently, without a promotion, the HBO/Cinemax package is $20/mo in your area. If you would like us to look into available promotions please send me a PM with your Name, Address, and Phone Number and we'll be happy to look into it for you :)
Thanks,
Dylan

Umatter - I received my channel lineup notice in the mail today. The 4 page letter that includes the detailed "was/is" report for channel locations showed new HD channels for Encore (670) and EPIX (685). I can't find either of these channels on the tier listing schedule that accompanied the letter. Did I just miss it?
Didn't think this question was that tough.
Umatter2Charter 03-29-12, 05:19 PM Good evening,
I am sorry that we missed your post. EPIX HD and Encore HD are on the third page second column and should have the word "NEW" in orange lettering next to them. Also Encore will still be packaged wth Starz, and Epic will still be an a la carte premium channel.
Thanks, and let us know if you have any other questions.
Jeremy

hybridthinker 04-01-12, 05:29 PM Going through this thread I saw a few posts regarding problems with the MOXI box HD DVR. Is there anything better available in the STL area? The box lags horribly, commands often are ignored (fast forwarding and rewinding often continue to do so while hitting play, pause, or stop), and the box will occasionally lock up midway through a show and crash. Long story short, coming from Directv less than a year ago I am regretting the decision. I called the support number on the website today and the customer service representative said that there was a "HDMI DVR"....as if HDMI was something new. She didn't have a clue what the box was, if there were any alternatives, and ultimately told me to take the box I have in to a store and exchange it. I am not interested in another version of the MOXI I have, I would like something actually current. Truthfully I would rather pay my cancellation fee and go back to Direct and use their HMC or Tivo box.

No clue. That's just what it says at Charter's site, which is why I put on the quotes. I don't suppose they know. It's been discussed in this thread earlier - I can't recall if they've made any guesses yet.
Here is Tivo info posted a few weeks ago (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=21772701&postcount=3075)
Mookie11 04-05-12, 08:34 AM I just had a Charter technician out at my house yesterday and he said that they are looking at launching TiVo in St. Louis market in late May. He thought it would be the four tuner TiVo as well. Can't wait.
ESPN2 feed is incorrect tonight in sd and hd. We are getting the blackout feed of espnews instead of the Royals/Angels game. St. Louis is not in the Royals' territory. We should be getting the game.

But why was it blacked out on ESPN? The Cubs/Brewers game was not on ESPN last night either. However, it was available on ESPN3 and also MLB.TV, which explicitly told me the game was available in my market. Does Charter have to manage these things, or do you just get info from upstream and black out per instructions?

Good Morning,
Blackouts are the result of FCC regulations regarding contractual agreements between professional sports leagues and broadcasters. Blackouts are determined by the right to broadcast a given game in a given area and are defined by sports leagues or by their rights holders, such as ESPN and TNT. Although blackouts typically occur within a 50 mile radius of the viewer’s location, it is not possible for any one carrier to know and track all blackouts as they are subject to private contracts and FCC rules and can change without notice.
Thanks,
Dylan
bunglebungle 04-10-12, 04:08 PM Yeah, I knew all that. MLB.TV, according to its sign-up info/FAQ, clearly states that games are subject to blackout. I don't see why it would be blacked out on ESPN if it's not on MLB.TV. I know blackouts are not Charter's fault in general, but I thought the rules would be the same for a particular location regardless. Are you saying that ESPN may be subject to different rules, or that you as a carrier just showed what ESPN gave you and they somehow determined to send you blackout (ESPNNews, in this case)?
There seems to be a nasty pattern developing here with the MLB blackouts. Friday, it was the Royals game - yesterday the Cubs game. Is it possible the Charter downlink is feeding ZIP Codes in areas futher flung than metro St. Louis and is subjecting us to the blackouts of these outer areas?

Anything outside of the STL DMA would receive a different feed and be bound to the blackout rules of their specified DMA.

I just noticed last night the channel lineup changed. I printed the lists of channels for the Maryville area and are noticing that some of the channels that used to be on Basic and Expanded Basic are now * which means they require a Digital tuner box. Though some I can get with my QAM tuner in my TV. I would like to know if you have a list showing what channels are on the dash CATV channels. Like KTVI has 2-1 and 2-1 which looks like you guys list as702 and 88 resp. The Weather channel is on 26-2/138 and in HD on 110-4/735. Any help?

Hi wedweb,
There have been some BIG changes in MO/IL with our new expanded Channel Line-up offering. As well as the addition of over 28 NEW HD channels. You can click your lineup here to see all changes: http://mycharterchannels.com/. I do not have a specific list of QAM stations since they change frequency more often, but this link is fairly accurate: http://www.silicondust.com/support/channels/. Be sure to change the drop down to "Charter Cable" after entering your zip code.
Did you receive the letter and/or email that was sent out about the changes?
Thanks,
Abby

elgibby 04-16-12, 12:06 PM Hey UMatter guys
How will TiVo HD boxes handle the big lineup changes this week (assuming it's still scheduled to happen this week)?
Will Season Passes migrate automatically to the new channel numbers?
Also, don't think there was an answer to the post earlier about new Charter-branded TiVo rollout at the end of May, and whether the boxes are 4-tuner.
thx.

There is no set date on the launch. No word on 4 tuner capabilities being released.

Big problem: There appears to be no way to set this up in advance of the lineup change. The reason I asked a few posts ago is that I'll be out of town Thursday-Sunday and won't be home to baby-sit this changeover.
If I can't change either the season pass or set a new recording until the lineup is changed -- until the new channels appear on the box -- I am essentially screwed.
And not happy.
tootal2 04-16-12, 11:47 PM tivo will change the numbers for you. but i hope tivo updates them on time. I hope they know a lineup change is coming. I think all season passes will work without having to redo season passes.

briarbruce 04-18-12, 03:09 PM This is a question for the U- matter guys.
I recently swapped out my old cable box for the dvr (Moxi) that was available for no extra charge. Unfortunately, no matter how I adjust the settings on my 5 year old Panasonic HDTV, the picture I get from the regular cable channels is nowhere close as good as the one previously. Serious clayface , fizzing pixels, and artificial edging are now the norm. Is there something I'm missing or is this the norm? It's so bad that I am thinking about just going back to the regular box, which had a breathtakingly great picture. Will the Tivo dvrs have a better picture quality?
thanks for your reply.

Sorry for any conflicting information. To set the record straight, customers WILL BE REQUIRED to reset their DVR series recordings with the new channel locations. Failure to do so may result in incorrect programming being recorded or set recordings being missed. This was news to me as well...

Good news/bad news regarding Tivos and the new channel line-up. My season passes appear to be migrating to the new channels automatically. The bad news is that though the channel guide has the new line-up, the actual channel switch doesn't occur until Saturday. Looks like I'll have to do some manual overrides in the interim. Any chance the channel switch will occur tonight?

agreed. this completely and utterly sucks. I'm fine with them standardizing the channels, I'm pissed that much **** isn't going to be recorded properly because they changed the roll-out date.
Umatter2Charter 04-19-12, 03:34 PM Good Evening,
We are extremely sorry for the mixup that this is causing. Some customers with a retail TiVo and Charter CableCARD may not have the correct lineup on the day of the channel changes. The lineup may be fed from one headend for their equipment, but their TiVo channel lineup information was set up from a different area (e.g. Belleville headend for equipment and Maryville for channel lineup). Customers are still able to tune their channels to the old channel location. There is not a need for a tech for this issue.
Thanks,
Dylan

The only *possible* fix is that in some areas TiVo offers multiple guides for a given zip code. If this is set incorrectly it may cause your guide to reflect an area that is scheduled to change at a later date than is expected so we do recommend making sure that you have the correct guide loaded.
Thanks,

We’re working very closely with all of our vendors to ensure a seamless transition to our new guide and channel lineups, and we did not anticipate for this to happen. We request that our vendors make their updates after 11 p.m. the night prior to the change to minimize impact to viewing schedules. In this instance the update occurred before the channels were moved to their new locations.
Per the schedule in our possession published 3/20 Ballwin area was set to change on 4/21 and all vendors were made aware of this. If possible, please go through the guide setup again and verify that there are not multiple options for your zip code, which is the case in many areas.
Thanks,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. :( We have verified that we are pushing the correct guide data for your area. This would need to be resolved through Zap2it.
Thanks,
DylanAs I stated earlier today, I notified Zap2it, and so far no response at all. Why in the world didn't Charter give Zap2it both the old and the new line-ups well ahead of time, so that the new line-up would be available on Zap2it BEFORE the changes were made to the channels?
I pay a fortune for this service (~ $2.60/day), and it is useless right now. Every channel says "Channel Unavailable (SDV error:1)".

Good Evening,
We’re sorry to read that Zap2it did not update for you with our new channel lineup information. As we indicated above, our new lineup was provided to all of our service partners with plenty of notice for the changes. The fact that Zap2it’s website listing is correct shows that they have the correct guide listing information. Zap2it obtains their information from Tribune which also provides information to TiVo. A member of our team, who also lives in Florissant, owns a TiVo unit and it has fully updated. This means that the guide data has been pushed out successfully from Tribune, as well.
At this point, it appears that all the initial steps are covers, so we are going to need to do some additional troubleshooting to help you resolve this situation. Please PM us with account details so we can get to work determining why you are unable to pull the guide data.
Thanks,
Dylan

DylanI just received a reply from Zap2it and they said that their data is correct and that I must take it up with Microsoft on their connect web site.
The connect ticket I opened is here, in case anyone else is having the same issue:https://connect.microsoft.com/site1145/feedback/details/737799/guide-listing-incorrect-for-charter-in-63031
I'll send a PM with my account details, for whatever good that will do.
tootal2 04-19-12, 11:30 PM 200? Seriously???
yep but i think some of the shows are not on anymore.
I need to go thru the season passes and delete the shows that are not on anymore.
bunglebungle 04-20-12, 09:50 AM I get listings from SchedulesDirect, which comes from Zap2it. My location changes tomorrow, but I already see the new channels in my lineup. Somehow the old ones are still present, though, too. For instance, I don't have all channels enabled in the lineup. It still shows 780 KDNLDT enabled, but there's a disabled 780 TBSHD and a disabled 712 KDNLDT. It appears that the new channels are present, but anywhere I am subscribed to one it still appears in the old spot. I guess that's about as good a way to have it work as I can imagine, but I suppose that's only SchedulesDirect. No clue how MS/Tivo handle it.
Charter, what time tomorrow do the channels change? Is it at midnight tonight? Or just whenever it happens?

Good Morning,
It may vary slightly but currently they are changing between midnight and 2am. You may have to reset all equipment in the morning for the guide to load properly. :)
Thanks,
Dylan
tootal2 04-20-12, 10:00 AM I hope its at 2:00 am when i go to sleep. I have 2 tivos and a wmc computer with cable cards. cant wait to see what happens. But they all have tv antenna so i wont mess most of my shows

bunglebungle 04-20-12, 01:31 PM MythTV abstracts the channel from the physical tuner frequency, so I think I just need to tell it to look at the lineup again and it will update based on callsign and the firewire stuff will be okay. I'll have to rescan to get the new QAM map for my HDHomerun, though. I don't really get much out of it since I already have the channels numbered the way I prefer anyway, but it's not a big deal and I think better for Charter to just do it all at once than a bunch of little changes here and there.
agree that it is better to do it all at once than stretch it out over a period of time. That way I only have to sit down and have the scheduled shows fixed once and then done.
tootal2 04-20-12, 11:24 PM but the channel are still in the same place. guess tivo updated the guied ahead of time.

Umatter2Charter 04-21-12, 10:27 AM Good morning,
I am very sorry for the trouble with the guide updating prior to the channels moving. The realignment can take place at any time today. If the channels are still in the same place they have not moved. Tivo just pushed the guide prior to the realignment taking place.
Thank you for your patience today while we getting everything done with these changes.

Umatter2Charter 04-21-12, 10:39 AM If your WMC is still not correct tomorrow I would highly recommend rescanning the channel guide. Sorry again for the trouble, and if you are still having trouble tomorrow let us know. These roll outs can take time, and we appreciate your patience :).

What's going on with your cable cards?

I am out of town till Sunday. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this worked for me. Confidence level not so high.
I live in Manchester. Woke up this morning and MOXI had the new channels and all of the scheduled recordings have moved to their new locations automatically. Had to do new scheduled recordings for TV Land now that it is HD. Took a while to delete all the channels I did not need but, overall not the hassle I thought it could to be.
Thanks for the new HD Charter.
How about NHL Network HD by next fall!
Umatter2Charter 04-21-12, 01:41 PM Good afternoon,
I am glad to hear that everything went well today! If you have any trouble in the future please let us know, and enjoy the new HD!
Thanks,

I too live in Manchester area and have moxi recorder and everything went smoothly as described with progams "scheduled to record" moved to their new channel numbers. However as long as you brought up TVLand HD its funny that the channel (732) doesnt appear in the MoxiHD channel guide although it is there (I just put in 732 and got to it).
Umatter2Charter 04-21-12, 05:43 PM That is really odd...back when I had a MOXI that happened once, and resetting the box cleared it up. Have you tried powering it down for a bit? Glad you are able to still get the channel though, but we want to make sure that it's in its right place. :)
Thanks,
Jeremy

wh1stler 04-21-12, 07:24 PM update screwed the pooch on the Windows Media PC i have running with a Ceton and Cable card...Moxi updated fine and channels working fine there. The new channels that were moved are saying channel not available or SDV error 7. May not want to update the night before a possible series clinching blues game next time around...not happy
I noticed that TV Land HD does not have a logo yet and is not listed as an HD channel. It is listed as just another channel. I have rebooted the MOXI and it has not changed.

JeffRand 04-21-12, 11:09 PM Does the channel lineup come from zaptoit or mcrosoft? I think i might go from zaptoit to microsoft and then to us:(Yes, I think you are right. From what I've been putting together, Charter sends the lineup to Tribune. Zap2it gets it from Tribune. And then Microsoft gets it from Zap2it.
I wish Charter would get this sorted out! I haven't been able to use my media center since Wednesday. And all I get is the run around from all parties involved. Who knows how long it will take before they get it right.
I've been pricing UHF antennas today and considering giving up on cable TV. I mostly watch stuff that is available over the air, so I could save $82/month. I've already missed some shows I couldn't record. If it doesn't get sorted out by Friday, I'm going to cancel service. :(

Correct it comes from zap2it - though even though the guide data is wrong I can't even manually change to the new channels without receiving a SDV 7 error or it just not changing at all.

It is only the Moxi that does not show TV Land HD as HD. It is on the guide and programs are posted. It does not have an emblem for TV Land HD just an orange square.

This evening with my moxi I am getting all channels, HD and regular, except 600 HBO HD (with Game of Thrones of course). It shows the old black screen with white letters ("if you receive this channel normally please retune or check your video connections etc etc"). I know it is a moxi issue because channel 600 is coming in loud and clear on the Motorola HD DVR downstairs. Anybody else having this issue? CharterUmatter can you help?

It's actually a Microsoft problem. For whatever reason, it seems to take them several days for a lineup change to get picked up. The reason the Maryville, IL zip code works is because they got updated on 4/11. And, it's been long enough for that zip code to make it through the system.
JeffRand 04-22-12, 10:22 PM It's actually a Microsoft problem. For whatever reason, it seems to take them several days for a lineup change to get picked up. The reason the Maryville, IL zip code works is because they got updated on 4/11. And, it's been long enough for that zip code to make it through the system. Then it sounds like Charter should put the change in earlier... and if that causes issues, they should provide two lineups. both the old and the new. So that people can switch whenever Charter makes the actual changes.
And, quite frankly, I'm tired of everyone pointing the finger at someone else. I pay Charter, they should see to it that I get what I pay for. Either that or refund me for loss of service.

seibelcj 04-23-12, 08:10 AM channel 600 was back up this morning.all in allguess not a bad transition on the moxi side so far (keeping fingers crossed!)
bunglebungle 04-23-12, 10:26 AM I agree - I don't think Charter's at fault here. You are also paying for WMC - sounds like it is the one not giving you what you paid for.
I got my setup updated Saturday. For a while I thought the local QAM HDs went away but then I realized they moved all the way down into the teens and twenties frequencies.
I checked out the new FS Advantage channels a bit during the Blues game. Pretty interesting, but bizarrely there was a mix of aspect ratios on the channels. Charter - what will show on those channels the rest of the time? The guide has "Charter Media" or something as the alternate name for those channel numbers, but that's not very descriptive.
JeffRand 04-23-12, 11:40 AM So even though the updates were put in early enough for all the other guide services to be updated on time, Charter should accommodate Microsoft's inability to update on time with the potential side effect of everyone else's guide being changed a week early?
Let's follow the logic train on this one. Charter let everyone know about the changes quite some time ago (I want to say about a month). Charter verified they sent the information to Tribune and other guide providers. You and Charter both verified that Zap2it's website listings were correct. Zap2it verified to you that the info they were sending out was correct. Other users with non-Microsoft powered devices are fine. Yet somehow it's Charter's responsibility to figure out why Microsoft isn't pulling those updates? Hmmm, makes perfect sense to me for Charter to be responsible for your equipment.
So does that mean when my radio, that I installed in my car myself, breaks I can take it back to the dealer/manufacturer and demand they fix it or buy my car back? With comments like this I really don't envy the customer service folks....Your analogy is flawed. There is a quite a difference between broken hardware and a broken service. I wasn't asking Charter to buy back or replace my equipment. I was only asking that they work better with their partners, to fix their service. It is Charter's responsibilty to insure a smooth transition, when they make changes. As I explained, there are ways to ensure that, without causing everyone elses guide being changed a week early. If Microsoft is causing Charter to lose sales, then Charter should ramp up the pressure on Microsoft to correct the issue in a timely manner. Or at the very least, keep their customers informed of when the issue will be resolved or provide a work-around. I'd still be without service today if it had not been for another customer pointing out a work-around. It's not like this is the first time Charter has had to change a lineup and it won't be the last. They should get their act together.

Good Afternoon,
We did contact Microsoft and per their support team we are to direct all users having trouble to this link on their site going forward: https://connect.microsoft.com/site1145
I apologize that we were unable to provide more direct support but unfortunately this is 3rd party hardware that we are unable to handle internally.
The guide changes were supplied to all vendors over 30 days before the launch. Tribune and Zap2It do have the correct guide info per their website. Unfortunately, we will have to ask that you follow the suggested resolution path from your equipments manufacturer at the link above.
Thanks,
Dylan
bunglebungle 04-23-12, 03:04 PM Maybe it's the IT guy in me (what I do for a living) that just irks me when people blame the wrong person.
That's because we get wrongly blamed quite a bit ;)
I still don't get how this is their fault. Everyone was notified, Microsoft failed to act. Why isn't everyone yelling at the one who failed? Oh well, you got it fixed....kinda.
Agreed.

This worked for me as of this morning and the couple of wmc channels I was able to check were correct. (824 specifically) - thanks for the suggestion on this.
So basically one of two is going on - Either the guide data for my zip is still not updated through zap2it or the rescan of the same zip in wmc is actually reaching out to get the data. After the change in zip it gave me the message to wait as the guide data was being loaded. When choosing the same zip to rescan I did not get the message....

linkinx 04-24-12, 10:53 PM Seriously how is this still not fixed?
I did the zip code change, but now I am only getting six days worth of guide data and more importantly I don't want to mess with it until I get it back to the correct Olivette lineup...
I realize the issue may not be directly related to charter, but at this point charter needs to take some ownership and get it fixed directly with MS or Zap2it and stop pointing fingers.
Umatter2Charter 04-24-12, 11:04 PM Good evening,
I am very sorry for the trouble that you are having with the guide information. Sadly we do not control the guide information for the equipment that you are using. I will reach out and see if there is anything further that we can do, but since we are talking about equipment that is not our own I cannot make any promises.
Thanks,
Jeremy

tootal2 04-24-12, 11:14 PM Has the channel list been updated for everyone in st louis with windows media center? im still using the zip code fix.
When choosing the same zip to rescan I did not get the message....
jkramer 04-25-12, 12:38 AM Belleville/Shiloh area was updated today. And I had to use the workaround zip code to get Windows Mediacenter working again. How long is it taking for the guide to get accurate data?
Also I agree charter deserves a pass on this issue. It is a problem with user owned equipment not charter owned.

And do exactly what .. ?? Charter may not be absolute perfection, however, your frustration is being vented in the wrong direction ..
mgkdragn 04-25-12, 08:29 AM Yesterdays channel shuffle seemed to go OK .. and my Moto DVR did actually pick up on most of the change and correct the channel numbers on season programed recording settings ..
The re-population of the channels still does take some time .. likely a fault of the DVR ..
One issue .. pressed the green OnDemand remote button and .. screen went to the welcome screen and locked up .. had audio but just a welcome screen .. had to reboot the DVR and did not try it again since the re-boot made the DVR have to re-populate ..
Houdini 04-25-12, 09:22 AM anyone else still have a ton of channels in the 700-800s area that have no channel name or icon? I'm on a moxi hd box in o fallon illinois.
bunglebungle 04-25-12, 09:48 AM I use the Olivette lineup from SchedulesDirect (via Tribune/Zap2It in my understanding) and it is correct, so it is not Charter's problem or an issue with the guide data.
bcgmoney 04-25-12, 09:57 AM Last night, St. Charles, Mo 63303 still did not have the lineup. I had used the 62040 for Maryville, Ill. That gave me the lineup ... but when Showtime 640 was accessed it disappeared from the guide and is no longer accessible. I have not checked other channels due to lack of time.
Question for 'umatter2charter' do the special channels [like Showtime] only work when accessed from a node in the correct zip code via media center?
Also I went to the microsoft link and found nothing. To post you have to have your product key, which I do not have with me....it then expects me to agree to a $99 an hour possible fee for even posting this question about microsoft not pushing the latest info from zap2it.:(
I did. I went through and took them off under the channel list.

Good Afternoon,
The guide should be the only thing affected by zip code. You are just choosing which to load.
We do wish we had more to offer for support on this but the link provided was all that was given to us when we inquired with Microsoft and they asked us to direct anyone having an issue to that URL.
Thanks,
Dylan
Umatter2Charter 04-25-12, 02:25 PM Good afternoon,
I talked with a couple of people, and sadly this is an issue we have no control over. We have contacted Tribune who has recevied our updated guide information. Tribune, in turn, contacted Microsoft to escalate the issue. We were then directed by Microsoft to have customers contact them about these issues directly. I am very sorry for the trouble once again, and hope that by contacting Microsoft you can get these issues resolved.
Please reach out to Microsoft on their portal to submit the data issue: https://connect.microsoft.com/site1145
Thanks,
Jeremy

Drizzt_DoUrden 04-25-12, 10:23 PM UM2C,
You guys need to seriously start thinking about providing digital receivers to your customers, much like the satellite companies and U-Verse does. This new channel configuration is great and all for HD content, but you just wiped out several channels that I was able to watch without a box, and terrible timing too considering it's right in the middle of the Stanley Cup Playoffs (NBC Sports is now digital box required).
Very disappointing.
Umatter2Charter 04-25-12, 10:36 PM Good evening,
I am very sorry that you were not able to catch the games due to the channel realignment. Sadly we do not give away boxes, but I will certainly pass along your feedback.
If you would like for us to look into equipment options for you please send us a DM with some account information so you don't have to miss any more games.
Thanks,
Jeremy

tootal2 04-25-12, 10:54 PM When the tuning adapter was installed on my tivo they used a splitter but when i got my self install cable card kit i didnt get a spliter. Does the spliter matter?
also im am getting a weak single on tbshd with wmc. but its fine on my tivo.
Umatter2Charter 04-25-12, 10:59 PM Good evening,
The splitter doesn't really matter if you do not need to split the cable. However if you are getting a weak signal on your WMC you could use a spliiter to boost the signal. Most retail splitters are normally +3 -3 dBMV so it could boost the signal. If I remember correctly they make splitters that go higher.
Are you getting any service issues on that channel? As long as the channel itself is working as it should I don't see how a lower signal would be an issue. Cable runs on a range of levels, and as long as they are meeting then you should be good.
Thanks,
Jeremy

tootal2 04-25-12, 11:29 PM i can get tbs in on wmc but it breaksup a lot and says weak single alot.
tbs seems to be the only channel that is not working good. that seems strange
Im using a splitter so i can have my tivo hd and wmc on one cable.
also im using the wrong zip code to get the right channel list, guess that does not help.
Can take the splitter off my tivo a just run the cable thru the tuning adapter?

Agree - the timing could not have been worse to remove NBC Sports from the available channels you can watch without a box. I already have two boxes through you guys, but I find no need to pay for a third so I can watch the same channels in my bedroom. Please add NBC Sports back to the lineup!
bunglebungle 04-26-12, 09:42 AM Eventually they'll completely get rid of analog so you'll always need a box of some sort, which eliminates one advantage of cable in my opinion (access built-in to TVs). If SD channels were available via clear QAM (ala Wide Open West's policy ('http://www.thewowbuzz.com/blog/technology/digital-transition-revisited')), then at least newer TVs could get channels without a box. However, this method requires Charter to disconnect or add line filters to block non-paying customers, whereas a cablecard box can be controlled remotely, so they don't really like this. Removing analog channels also frees up bandwidth for HD, and I bet the number of people complaining for more channels in HD is more than the number of people complaining about the lost channels. If that means there can be less compression on all channels that's a good thing.
One thought for Charter, though - stupid channels like QVC are already available on clear QAM. Why not drop the analog version of that instead of something like NBC sports that people might watch?
Houdini 04-26-12, 09:43 AM Umatter2Charter, I'm on a moxi 3012 hd box here in o fallon il (belleville area). When the new channel lineup was pushed to my box on the 24th, I am left with a ton of channels around the 700+ to 800+ range that have no channel name, no icon, or program info. Most of these channels do tune in and it appears they may be duplicates of other channels. Any reason this happened? Is charter going to clean this up or do I have to go disable every single one to remove it from list? Very annoying. Example = channel 710.
mgkdragn 04-26-12, 09:56 AM If that means there can be less compression on all channels that's a good thing.
Yep, the concurrent analog feed will eventually go away .. however, I'm not going to hold my breath on the less compression possibility .. ;)
