StLBluesFan 10-31-07, 11:33 AM I'll be turning in a Moxi to the Town and Country Charter office on Friday morning if someone wants to try to grab it. ;) Have moved to Directv, holding onto the Moxi for a couple of days to make sure I'm fully satisfied with the move.
Price for cable service went up nearly 40 bucks (again) and I'm tired of going thru the negotiation dance with Charter to get back to the reduced rate. Plus Charter will likely never come close to the number of HD channels already available via D*, not to mention CBS-HD . . .
Lucid504 11-01-07, 12:33 AM Just an update to people st peters office is out of stock on hd-dvrs wont have any until the 15th...they were supposed to install on the 1st now its the 16th...stupid charter cant even reserve a box for an install.....
Lucid504 11-01-07, 09:46 AM I scheduled an appointment for charter to install an hd-dvr on November 1st well the day before on Halloween i get a call to confirm the appointment and then 20 minutes later i get a call from charter saying they cant install because they are out of hd dvr boxes and wont have them for 2 weeks so they reschedule the installation date to the 16th. Well today i get a call saying charter will be out here at around 8:15-9:30, so i transfer to a human and im told they actually didn't schedule the appointment for the 16th so they got to schedule it to the 17th...and then she goes so we will see you the 7th and i go i thought you said the 17th and she was like oh i sure did.....
What the hell is wrong with the people at charter.
UPDATE:
They gave me a 20 dollar credit for all the problems....so it makes it 14 to install.
chuckparr 11-01-07, 08:54 PM Every channel on my Charter digital cable is breaking up tonight, while the two TV's on standard cable are fine. ANyone else having that problem?
Anybody else not getting sound on Fox Sports Net (792) on Charter or other???
This is thre second time recently that I have tried to watch a High def sports program and there was no sound.

GCanada 11-04-07, 11:10 AM I'm a big D* fan but like to stay in the know about other options. How much is charter charging these days for all the channels inlcuding all the movie channels? Also how is there HD lineup coming?

I'm considering D* as a family Christmas present. Charter is about $70-80 for full digital package + HD + HD movie channels. Still no CBS-HD because of the Charter-Belo squabble. They just added History HD and A&E HD except they aren't true HD, just standard stretched. I have to say I am (one of the few) that has not had picture quality issues with Charter, but for 80 bucks would sure like to get CBS HD as well as a few of the choices satellite viewers get.

Have you tried an OTA antenna? That is what I did when still with Charter. Was able to get better quality HD CBS than what Charter could provide before they lost it.

Have considered. Local dealer recommends a ten foot mast ((I'm north of Alton) plus would need a HD tuner. Satellite seems like a one-stop solution instead of switching antenna/cable depending on what we are watching. Plus in long run it seems either satellite choice will have more HD choices than Charter. After a year they added three crappy stretched HD channels.

I did a quick check of Alton's zip code in http://antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx and you would have no problem pulling in the HD channels from St. Louis. CBS is only 27 miles away. Why not have the OTA antenna and satellite? That is what I have with Dish. I even have the OTA mounted in the attic. The VIP722 HD DVR with Dish can record three tuners at the same time using the OTA antenna. The OTA picture looks just as good as satellite. With the OTA you would have backup to satellite if you have loss of signal from thunderstorms. The 722 works bunches better than Charter's MOXI and the Motorola 3416 DVR.

Two people with in a mile of me have sat. with antenna for OTA HD. Both told me they could not get good OTA signal until they put antenna on a mast on top of roof. I guess I figure I will have the same situation, and just haven't convinced myself to go to the hassle of antenna and another tuner.

I highly suspect that they are including HD on Demand in that 100 figure so that they could quite feasibly have only 20-25 HD channels and around 75-80 HD on demand programs available at any given time.

Charter with 100 HD channels by year end? More like by decade end. I'lloeat my proverbial "hat" if that happens even by year end 2008. And The Weather Channel in HD-how exciting-I set for hours and hours and watch weather maps, about as exciting as traffic reports. Why watch HD movies and regular TV when you can watch HD weather reports. Can you tell I'm excited?

Not channels!!! At the rate Charter is adding HD channels, it will take Charter 15 years until they have 100 channels in HD.
I have a courtesy account w/Charter thru 5/08 and get a deeply discounted rate. When that expires, it's DirectTV for me!!!!!!

I fimally left Charter last week for D*. Couldn't be happier. In terms on number of HD channels I actually would watch, D* has 3 or 4 times as many as Charter. Add Channel 4 HD and the ability to integrate OTA HD signals into the D* channel guide (allowing for DVR recording of OTA), and the move was a no-brainer for me.

That is what I did too. Went from Charter to "E" Dish TV. The VIP722 DVR works bunches better than Charter's DVR.
tonycsmoke 11-08-07, 12:17 PM I did just the opposite, went from D* to Charter, but not by choice. Damn HD dish is too big for my chimney and with a two story house and trees directly to the south, the chimney is the only place. After having Tivo and D* for years Charter was a big shock to the system.
Uverse is right around the corner...but I'll probably wait for them to iron out the bugs first. When they get it rolling and with all the future potential, I have a feeling Charter will be a thing of the past.
For everyone with a MOXI.
Charter has enabled the option of recording/deleting things via www.charter.net Just log in and then click on the TV link and look to the right side. By the zipcode there is a link for DVR menu.
Enjoy.

mkconley 11-08-07, 05:53 PM Does anybody know if Charter has activated the copy protection (CCI 0x02) on their HD content like HBO HD, Showtime HD etc?. I'm thinking of getting two HD Tivo's and want to use the Multi Room Viewing capability.

I was unable to find the DVR menu so I asked Charter.
I just used the online chat with charter and they said that Web DVR has not been released in my area yet. My services is thru Olivette. They were going to denote on my account to let me know when it is available. Maybe it will be in the next couple of days.

codetalker 11-08-07, 10:12 PM FWIW, I live in the east Edwardsville area (have Charter) and wanted to watch the Colts-Patriots game in HD. I ressurected an antenna that I had bought last year for my non-HD CRT (in order to use during the post ice storm Charter blackout) and was able to receive KMOV HD very well (92% signal strength) with it on the floor (!) behind the TV.
It''s a "HD" model (which means it looks fancy and costs more than it should) antenna with a circular UHF receiver and rabbit ears. I bought it at a local well known national electronics store and it cost around 65$.
Is it just me or does anyone else think that $44.95 for the bottom tier of Charter internet is over priced? That will be the charge as of 02/08. Yeah, I know if you complain you can get it cheaper, and I do but what a pain.
Prediction: Charter will be bought by another cable company soon. These folks do not know how to run a business. I have been with them over 20 years and love my Moxi DVR but as soon as an equal technology comes along I am out of here.
Was wanting to have some buddies over to watch the OSU vs KU game on Saturday OTA 30.1 but TitanTv doesn't list it in HD. Doesn't look like there are any games on ABC that are in HD. Does anyone know for sure?
Thanks,
Neuner

Charter doesn't own the content. It is up to the owner of the copyright as to whether the flag is set.
A few years ago, Mr. Cuban said he was going to take an East Coast cable company to task for flagging HIS Maverick games.

Yes it is. All ABC Saturday night games are HD. Fredfa's Hot Off the Press thread in the HDTV Programming forum lists which games are in HD each week. Here's the link:HOTP (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10367407&&#post10367407)

Holy freakin hell, I never imagined charter would implement something like this. Just logged in hit a couple buttons and 2 seconds later the recording light turned on. Thanks for the heads up on this, I would have NEVER noticed it on my own, I never log into charter's site.
edit: Just played around , you can even view what's recorded (but not watch it) and delete stuff, cancel recordings, and so on.

mkconley 11-10-07, 12:58 PM True, but there have been plenty of instances in which the local cable company simply has the Flags set to be on by default. This is what I'm wondering....

Thanks!
Lucid504 11-18-07, 03:53 PM Does anyone know who i would contact to complain about the info on the guide.
While your voicing a complaint, about the Guide, can you ask them why their system down in Lousiana has the following HD channels, and St. Louis, does not?
Charter HD channels, in Lousiana: CBS HD, golf channel/versus; animal planet, learning channel, science channel, wealth channel, mojo, hgtv, food channel, weather channel, Universal hd, smithsonian channel, all the starz movie channels, the movie channel hd, and they have another showtime hd channel.
football751 11-22-07, 11:15 AM Is anyone else having problems with NBC HD? It is either very pixelized and the audio cuts our or I get the blue "you don't subscribe to this channel" message. I have hard reset the box (unplugged it for about 30 seconds) to no avail. Any ideas other ideas?
Sorry if this has been asked before, but if the Rams game doesn't sell out does a different game go in its place sunday?
football751 11-23-07, 10:11 PM Yes, we would get whatever other game Fox has on at that time.

Also they currently have a 5mb promo for 15 a month for I believe a year.. Not sure if its something they will auto give you, or if you have to play the I'm switching to DSL if you don't lower my price game... Either way I would never pay Charter that much so I would give em a call, and make sure any promos they give you last at least 6months or optimally 12months to avoid having to negotiate with them all the time.. Last promo I did was 6months so I am just about due to yell at them for a new package.

I have biggest value package with one digital receiver, remote, IIS for $49.99 for 12 months. I added HD with a box and a remote to that and pay around $71 after taxes. Today, I added internet (5mB) for $15/month for 12 months and phone for $15/month for 12 months. Should save me about $15 over what I was paying for AT&T.
Try Value Digital Pkg. $ 53.99
Charter Movie View 10.00 HBO/SHOWTIME
Charter Total View 10.00
DVR Service 11.98 Moxie

Total Charter Services $ 207.06
Gues I'll calling Charter tommorow for sure. Either I get a break, or I call Direct. If any one has a better plan let me know. Thanks as always!
I think I have exactly the same except no long distance phone. I have local only which is billed separately for ~$15.
They recently increased my internet. I called and bitched and said I wouldn't pay that and they reduced it to $19.99. ON second thought I thought my total without phone but with interent was about $120.
Wayne
edit: make sure when you go thru the phone system to go to the last number, I think it is #5 which is something like.."cancel service". This will assure that you get the English speaking local reps that are trained to "retain" you. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

flying99 12-02-07, 08:19 PM My audio and picture is not in sync for many of the HD channels. I have a Charter Moxi box hooked up to my Samsung 40" LCD. The audio is just slightly ahead (by a half second or so) of the video. This is terribly annoying, especially when watching live music shows.
Does anyone else have this problem, and more importantly, how do I fix this???

Have you reset your box yet? If a soft reset (pressing the reset button on front) doesn't work try a harder reset by unplugging the box for about 30 seconds and then plugging it back in.

Yeah unfortunately I think that press release came out 1 month to early because even if Charter had that type of bandwidth sitting around unused I do not believe any provider could get up and running 80 new channels in a 4 week time span.... Unless they just fill up on the HD-OnDemand Movie selection and call that each a channel to fudge the numbers like all the providers do.

Charter actually has added two more HD On Demand options, MHD and Sundance (yeah, Sundance). There are about 10 individual song performances from various artists on MHD On Demand. Sundance on Demand has four HD episodes of "Iconoclasts". Neither of the two programs I sampled had 5.1 sound.
None of the current programs strike me as remotely exciting.

Yes. For me it's Charter only. I have 5.1 OTA also and it doesn't freeze as bad there. You should also note that it only occurs when the last commercial in the break is a short promo for KSDK news. I've sent several e-mails to KSDK with no response. I wouldn't know who to talk to at Charter. I know this isn't much help other than to let you know you're not alone.

Under the Moxi there is an HD-Ondemand option once you are under the initial OnDemand options screens... I think its the last one to be found..
With that said I have had a Moxi since the first couple of months that it was released in STL and I forgot why, and how much I really love it.. Scrolling around the OnDemand menu on a secondary Motorola box I have is just clumsy feeling and I hate the way you have to scroll around in the ondemand menu..
Oh well, long live moxi... Just too bad they can't get there **** together to get that newer box released already.. I have no intentions of buying it (i'm too damn cheap) but I want to get the next gen leased from Charter assuming I don't just switch to DirectTV because of getting impatient with Digeo & Charter's HD Lineup.
charlesrshell 12-05-07, 10:21 AM Under the Moxi there is an HD-Ondemand option once you are under the initial OnDemand options screens... I think its the last one to be found..
With that said I have had a Moxi since the first couple of months that it was released in STL and I forgot why, and how much I really love it.. Any rumors when Charter is getting the upgraded MOXI box??

Nothing that I have heard other than Chances are very good and likely that Charter will offer whatever the latest hardware is.. But I would assume when Moxi goes retail Charter would get a box to go through internal testing and such before deployment.. Considering they take at least 6 months just to test an update for the existing Moxi's I would think it would take no less than 6 months once the device goes retail.
That is all just an educated guess based on past experience.. A smarter company would probably be involved with Digeo already doing testing and such but knowing Charter they are just sitting on the side lines waiting for Digeo to get the final Moxi out.

Well, when I went to the new retail MOXI demonstration last summer in St. Louis, the briefers gave a little tiny hint that I took as Charter may be getting MOXI boxes again. The Motorola 3416 is a pile of junk. I had three of them and had them swapped out a couple of times. The old MOXIs were becoming pretty scarce so I switched to Dish Satellite. Dish's HD DVR is superior to Charter's present DVRs. I am happy I switched.

Yeah DVR aside I have always hated the standard Digital boxes Charter had.. When I first got the Moxi I always thought the cost of the Moxi alone was worth not having to deal with the normal interface charter had and the DVR was just a bonus feature of it. Now many years later I finally have some standard boxes around the house and it nice to see that there standard interface has changed quite a bit and are a lot more usable than they once were.
I am so tempted to goto a Dish as well, but between my love for Moxi & DirectTV's slow roll out of the 1 cable per tv solution I have yet to make the switch. But I am not really holding my breath for the Retail moxi because I think Digeo has dropped the ball many many times now with the Moxi. They knew the law changes were coming that caused them to have to stop manufacturing the older boxes yet here we are still with no new solution in play for Digeo.. I love the moxi but I really think Digeo is digging them self in a hole here that may be hard to get out of with Charter being the only major supporter of them these days.

I hear you. I was really happy with Charter all these years with the exception of the latest DVRs. I still have their internet service (10 down and 1 up) and the basic TV service too. If you are really serious on switching to satellites, really study up on both companies. Dish has had a couple of satellites that failed on the launch pad so they are behind right now with only about 38 HD channels. I under strand that Direct TV has about 100 HD channels now. So if HD is your thing that might be the way to go. For me, I think Dish's products are better quality than Direct and I like the one wire technology Dish has for two tuners. Also, there has been bunches of complaints on Direct TVs DVR. Dish's DVR is super.
Lucid504 12-05-07, 07:11 PM Charter just added Starz HD and HBO HD to on Demand, Its under the Premiums and you just go to like Starz then there will be a thing that says Starz HD.They also added Music Choice HD.

Sweet... its about time charter started offering the HD On Demand such.. a lot of other providers have been offering it for some time now... Now how about FX and Sci Fi on demand... hehe.. If you can't fit in the entire channel, the on demand will do for me...
We don't have a standard def of either of those channels on-demand so I am sure it will never happen... But a man can dream can't he....

Yeah I was just dreaming.. I do have to say the number of selections under all these new HD On-demmand options is pretty slim.. I wonder if thats because of a slow rollout Charter is doing or if it common with other providers to only have a handful of offerings for each channel.
Like with HBO I was hoping to find some TV series listed under the on-demand but no luck...

Hohlraum 12-06-07, 09:49 AM I didn't see any other mention of anyone having it in the thread but I thought I would mention I was offered AT&T Uverse tv and internet service over the phone today when calling about my internet service. I'm in Manchester near 141 & Big Bend. Thought I saw mention of people waiting for it to become available.
I honestly think they messed up my bill specifically so I'd call in and they could push it. Cuz when I got the original CSR they said, "We have a special group handling your account."

If you like your Moxi I would suggest kicking and screaming to make em replace it with another moxi(would require service call) Otherwise you will get a box with the standard Charter interface with a DVR feature. I do believe it does have HDMI, but as of right now no external hard drive feature is available for it. I think its a planned feature but who knows when. And depending on how much HD content you record would depend on if that feature is important for you.
Just my thoughts... The moxi is by far superior to any other box that Charter offers in my opinion.

football751 12-10-07, 09:58 PM Well, did a service call and got a new Moxi. The guy had actually already replaced 4 before he got to my house, and had to go back to get one for us. I was surprised that he replaced 5 in one day, as I thought they weren't giving them out any more. Guess they do. And he left me a 10-12' component cable. i don't need it, but nice to have.

Good to hear.. Did you have to do anything special to get it? Or did you at least specify you wanted replacement moxi or did they auto bring you one without hesitation?
If you did nothing then its good to know Charter is auto giving out the Moxi to those that already have one vs switching them to the basic unit they offer now.

Well, actually tried to take it to Charter since that's what the guy online said. Lady said they couldn't exchange them there, had to set up a service call. Got the service call for the same day between 2 and 6. She knew we wanted a Moxi since that's what we brought in, but she didn't make a big deal about it and the guy went all the way back to get one for us.
Anybody else having VOD problems? On all my selections I get a message "We have detected an error in your video signal. Please try again later." I live in Manchester.
Yes, I couldn't get in VOD working yesterday. Same error. Ironically we got a mailing from Charter telling all about how great VOD was and how easy it is to use.....and now it doesn't work. When will they learn?

You using moxi too? I have been getting that error message for about 4 days now on my moxi, but another digital box in my house is working fine with VOD... At first I thought it was because I did some rewiring in my house but I was fairly sure that I had watched VOD since making the wiring changes so I assumed it was a Charter issue till I tried it on another TV.... I of course haven't wasted my time to call in as I haven't felt like dealing with their wonderful support.

Yes, I have moxi. I broke down and called it in. It took almost 10 minutes to get a live person. She wrote up a ticket on it. The number is DISP4069127. So if it isn't straightened out in the next day or so, any of us can call in and check the status by referring to that number.

bailorg 12-13-07, 03:20 PM Anyone having problems with Charter internet service recently? Mine was very slow/out from about 11pm last night through about 1pm this afternoon.
If not, then I think I might have a modem problem. My current one is quite old, does anyone know if I can just take my old modem to my local office and swap it out for a new one, or will I have to get a tech out here?

The internet may be crap today with Charter but during my lunch break I tested VOD and all was seeming well with it again off my moxi.
To those with Internet issues you may want to login to your firewall/router and change the MTU to 1000. This should let you browse around to more sites but you will still get poor performance and you have to remember to remove that setting once Charter finishes fixing their mess.
NBuckmaster 12-14-07, 05:13 AM My internet was worthless most of yesterday, but started working fine about 3 PM. I have the same issue with VOD; Works fine on my MOTO HD Tuner, but I get the video error message on the Moxi - been that way for a week now. I'm in Manchester, by 141 and Big Bend...
NBuckmaster 12-14-07, 05:17 AM Also, has anyone been having problems with Charter phone service? Mine works fine 99% of the time, but it seems if I stay on too long, eventually the other party won't be able to hear me although I hear them fine. Rarely, it will recover, but most of the time one has to hang up and redial....

Yeah according to my coworker who spoke with Charter the issue was a bad MTU setting on a router.. I thought that most of the time those just stuck with the default MTU so odd that they had it changed, not to mention odd that it took them so many frackin hours to figure out the fix.... My coworker may have just misunderstood the tech but nothing would surprise me when it comes to charter and overlooking something so damn stupid.

I was at Charter Commons yesterday dealing with some business junk, and the gal at the front desk said that pretty much the whole state was having internet issues and to make things worse, their phone system was having trouble as well.

Still no On Demand on Moxi box...guess I need to call it in.
I'm at Carman and Wiedman. After no luck on the phone, with internet tech support or with a visit to the Charter Commons office, I had a tech visit on Monday. He called dispatch who indicated that there was some sort of encryption added to VOD a couple of weeks ago. They sent some sort of signal to the box and everything was fine. You certainly should be able to avoid a tech visit to get this staightened out but I wasn't. Good luck.
I've been without cable for a few months or so and got it back at my new home. I did a QAM search and found the usual channels except any VOD channels. Could this be due to the encryption added to the VOD.... is the party over? The only other thing I can think of is when I was installed the tech mentioned that I had a weak signal. I didn't have any problems so he thought it would be okay.0 Does anyone have any helpful information on why I can't get these "extras" anymore?
Thanks.

This came up on the MOXI thread from a North Carolina Charter tech:

Most markets (if not all) should have these encrypted now (Thankfully for us, unfortunately for those who enjoyed watching what their neighbors were doing on VOD...)
Another Side point is in some markets you'll catch channels not commonly availible - for example our headend serves two different Demographic Marketing Areas - so a Clear QAM viewer can pick up the local networks from both. - Channels will also be market by their EIA / QAM frequency and not by Channel number

Since KTVI hasn't upgraded their news to HD I don't know if they'd have the ability to rebroadcast the game in HD. I don't know much about the local stations, but all of the stuff that is in HD on KTVI is stuff form Fox national.

black_macleod 12-23-07, 11:00 PM I recently got a mailer in the mail for Free HBO/Cinemax for 6 months. Called and asked what the catch was ... nothing she told me, cept if I don't call to cancel it, I'll get charged after the promo period. So I said turn it on.
Its nice to have all their VOD programming, now we're caught up on our seasons of Extras!
But man, they play the same movies over and over.
And I noticed on my last bill I'm getting free 5mb internet until the end of Jan. I pay for 3meg. I guess this is system wide?
I almost switched to UVerse as my address is valid for an install --- however, after talking to them and researching, the ability to only watch one HD stream at a time is surely retarded. I thought Uverse was going to be true fiber to the home, or at least to the curb, not copper all the way to a box which could be a mile away. Not good -- that's just another form of cable! Blah.

GlendaleHDTV 12-27-07, 07:01 PM I finally got the VOD to work on my Moxi. No, local Charter customer service had nothing to do with it. There's an incredibly helpful charter employee (CharterJames) (who is a Moxi expert) from North Carolina over in the Moxi forum, who was able to check with someone in the Charter office here, and they figured out it was some problem with a billing code as it relates to new VOD encryption. He said that the change they made would hopefully fix it for everyone, but if not, you may need to send him a pm.

For example, I'm able to get CW-DT on 1.1, PBS-DT on 1.2, and ABC-HD on 65.3. But FOX-HD and NBC-HD are nowhere to be found.

Lucid504 01-03-08, 08:17 AM Hey everybody, I have been on the site for a while but just registered tonight as I am watching the first Harry Potter in HD!
Anyways, I am a Charter employee, I work with the telephone service in technical support at the Town and Country office. We are doing away with the 3MB internet and 5MB will be the lowest we offer, however they should have sent or be sending letters that are custom tailored to each customer explaining any changes to your bill as well as a custom offer for promotion pricing.
Now keep in mind I can't make magic happen, but if you have any questions I'll see what I can do.
Do you know if any New HD Channels will be added soon?or atleast any HD VOD Channels?
I would like to know the answer to that question, as well. I see they are raising the HD Tier rates, but, as of now, with no new channel additions. Charter's St Louis HD lineup is weak, very weak.
I hadn't checked in a while but noticed this morning a few Cinemax HD titles added to the VOD lineup. On the other hand, I seem to have lost the handful of HBO HD titles that had been there. Anybody know what's going on? Am I looking in the wrong place?

Perhaps it's your QAM tuner? I have what's considered a rather poor QAM tuner on my Olevia 237 tv and I get CW, PBS, ABC, Fox, and NBC just fine. I don't know if this helps, but I get cw as 1-1, pbs as 1-2, fox as 102-1, nbc as 102-2, and abc as 124-3.

I sent my own "Rant" to follow up on this customers Rant, to complain (for the fourth time) about the lack of CBS-HD.
Customer Comment:
When will we see more regular programming in HD? Currently its about 19 channels in St. Louis, whereas Direct TV is advertising they'll have 100 regular Channels in HD by end of 2007. What are Charter's plans regarding increasing regular channels in HD?

I have complained to them many times as well. Any negotiation is a two way street-both sides have to be willing and at this point both are giving BS answers.

capnchuk 01-14-08, 09:08 AM I've got 2 questions:
1) when is the next generation of Moxi due out (and will charter use it)?
2) If I'm already paying for HDTV/DVR service from Charter, can I simply buy my own DVR from Ebay and use it?
I had the old moxi box. When it acted up they replaced it with this other box. The software on it is not as good. fewer search options, duplicate recordings, all around a pain.

1. I don't think even Digeo knows precisely when a new cable-only Moxi will be released.
2. You'd have to buy a CableCARD DVR since all cable boxes are both rented and need to be activated by Charter or the local cable co and in an eBay sale, you can't prove that the seller of the box didn't steal it.
elgibby 01-14-08, 11:21 PM Anybody else having HD problems on Fox/2?
I'm on a Moxi. Football Sunday was unwatchable with long audio/video dropouts.
Terminator last night had a few toward the end. Tonight it was OK for about half the show and unwatchable after that.
However, the local news tonight on 2 was OK.
Other channels seem OK tho I haven't spent a lot of time on them.

I was watching football Sunday on Fox via Charter and don't remember any long dropouts. I just remember a couple that lasted less than a second, but nothing major.

Sweet good to know.. Just a shame and waste of bandwidth on the Weather HD front.. Do people really watch anything on this channel other than quick blips from time to time?
Oh well.. Maybe they have some special programming I am unaware of. I do have to say I never watched the History channel till' Charter carried it in HD and now I have several things I watch on it.

We are seriously considering switching from charter to d*! Got a tosh hdtv, jvc audio and while HD looks alright, sd and even digital channels look like crud! I'd like to hear some advice as to how to hook everything up for max viewing pleasure! I've read and read until i'm totally confused!!!

Do you know what model cable box you have? Since different Charter boxes have different settings and connection options, it's important to know what type of box you have, since the advice will likely be different for different boxes.

davehyunch 01-16-08, 11:16 PM I've had Charter's HD service for about 3 years now. Yeah, still lots of shortcomings, pathetic HD lineup, etc. I just spent the holidays in Dallas helping my parents set up HD through ATT U-verse. They have lots of HD channels, the price is relatively low, but the picture and DVR flat out stink compared to Charter (MOXI).
I just got a rate increase and my bill went from $115/mo (after taxes and fees)to $170/mo! I have 5 meg internet, MOXI, additional HD receiver, and every one of their HD channels, including the movie channels. Fortunately, I renegotiated the monthly bill back down to $112. Phew.
Good to see the new HD channels coming. My wish list? CNN, CNBC, HGTV, and FoodTV. It's not that I really want CBS, I just can't believe it's still not there. I agree with phatty, why waste the bandwidth on freaking weather?
Sheebs, no TV provider is going to make your SD channels look much better. Sorry, but your older non-HD crt will make SD look its best. Welcome to HD world.
A question: does anyone know if it's possible to hook an OTA to Charter's MOXI?
Thanks to all who post here. I've appreciated the input/insight you all have offered here over the years.

tonycsmoke 01-17-08, 09:30 AM I was scrolling through the HD channels and WGN HD was listed? Didnt hear anything about that. Weather channel is a waste of space - I want my HD Sci Fi channel.
GlendaleHDTV 01-17-08, 09:34 AM A question: does anyone know if it's possible to hook an OTA to Charter's MOXI?
Can't be done. The Moxi has no OTA tuner, so hooking up an antenna to the box is not an option.

It was in my channel line up, but now it's gone - strange! It was right below HDnet.

believe me! i've been reading until my eyes are crossed :) and then some. Just not sure what to do!

They just laid off half of the company and canceled their two retail models. A new cable version is in testing.

That was probably wishful thinking on my part. I'm not familar with how HD works with an antenna. Do I need to by a special antenna or will an old one I have work?
By the way, a blog on kmov.com mentions when they will start their news in HD. It caught me by surprise too.

Answering my own question: They are separate channels.

Lucid504 01-23-08, 10:46 AM I emailed charter trying to get usa hd and i got this response
Dear Mr. *******:
I am responding on behalf of Steve Trippe. Thank you for your note.
I can assure you that the addition of HD programming is a priority for us and we plan to add many more networks in 2008 and 2009. Agreements for many networks' HD signals are currently being worked on by our corporate programming department, including USA HD. At this time I can tell you that we will be adding three HD networks on January 30, 2008. Versus/Golf Channel HD, Discovery Channel HD and The Weather Channel HD will be added to the HD Tier on channels 772, 776 and 794 respectfully. We hope that you enjoy these new channels, with more to come throughout 2008.
Thank you for taking the time to inform us of your interest in USA HD. I appreciate it.

Hi Guys - just wanted to check in and say that I am thrilled to finally find a good discussion place for Charter in St. Louis.
I am excited about the new HD Channels, but to me, nothing is worse than not having CBS in HD.
I was wondering if someone could help me out (pretty ignorant when it comes to antennas and whatnot) about whether I can install on antenna to get it?
The TV I have is a Panasonic TH-42PX600U Plasma TV
Can someone link me to an antenna that would work for me? And where would I plug it in?
Thanks in advance. Really happy to find this place!

I briefly looked at the specs, and I believe this does have a digital tuner. All you should have to do is get a UHF antenna and hook it up.
Depending on where you live will determine what kind and what location you will need to pick up channel 4. I live in Lake St Louis, and I use a cheap Walmart antenna and have it sitting behind my TV, but YMMV.

That's OK, I never get any messages.

You know, I have a Moxi and I get no option on Charter.net to do web programming .. did you have to set this up? I click on a show, and there is no option to record it .. or anything else for that matter.
You have to log into charter.net so it knows your dvr information. Mine worked fine until today. Now they have to come out and take a look. Oh, and if this ever quits working for you, good luck finding somebody that knows what you are talking about.

That's just it, my browser always logs me into my charter.net account ... so yea, I was logged it, and it has never worked. Mabye it doesn't work on Macs, so I'll try the PC ... does it use ActiveX or something?
On all my Mac browsers, if I click a show, it just brings up the show info, nothing else. And they have no info on the site anywhere about this "feature"
Well, I'll keep trying.

edit: just tried on my PC, no Moxi recording options at all.
Can you see on the top right of the TV listings it says setting and the DVR menu?

I only see "settings" nothing about a DVR menu
click on settings. It should show your dvr under Preferred DVR Settings. If not call good old customer service and tell them it is not picking up your DVR on your account.

AFter 1.5 hours on the phone ...
So I dunno where you live or what kind of Moxi you have, but "officially" they say its still in beta? and only with certain boxes? Anyway, I have a Moto branded Moxi so it aint gonna work. Or something. I don't care that much after the conversations I just had, lol.
Sigh.
"officially" = who you get when you call
black_macleod 01-23-08, 10:13 PM Anyway, I wish I had that time back, haha. I don't even NEED that service, probably wouldn't use it, never log in to Charter.net anyhow .... haha. But if I'm SUPPOSED to have it, then damn it, make it work! Hehe.
I talked to 3 TV and 3 Internet people who all told me it was someone else's deal, so they have NO CLUE as to how to fix this "service" if it does exist. No info on their site about it. Vaporware!
No I believe it exists, I just can't stand calling them ever again.

Funny it works fine for me. I only use it from work on a PC (i Explorer) and haven't tried it from my Mac at home but I will tonight and let you know.
You do have to 1. log in and 2. click on the TV link over on the left side of the screen and then 3. Pick a show that you want to record and then you will see your options.
good luck.
Last evening I received a recorded message reportedly from Charter saying that my e-mail address had been chaged recently. If this wasn't true I was supposed to call a certain number. My wife answered and didn't get the number and they didn't repeat it before hanging up.
Long story...short.....I finally found a Charter CSR byu calling Charter directly and going thru the long process but finally I got somebody in India that knew about it and he said it is a hoax. So don't call that number or you may get a huge call charge.

I'm interested to know exactly which Moxi's you guys have
I have the Moxi and the Moxi mate so it is the 9022 (I think that is the number).
I was just on and it now allows me to actually see what I have scheduled to record all in one screen. Before it just show in the large grid the shows with a red circle for all the ones that were scheduled to record.
I really like the ability to search 14 days ahead and limit the search to HDTV shows only or discription only...stuff you can't do on the Moxi itself....very cool.
I heard that Tivo is working on a feature like this becasue now they sort of have this but can't resolve scheduling conflicts real time...but there is fix coming and it is to send you an e-mail that there may be a conflict with what you are trying. Say what? Crazy.
I have complained about Charter and Moxi enough over the years but the implemtation of this has been so good....at least for me...but as usual not all of us are benefitting.
Now if they could just fix the Moxi 4.1/slingbox issue!!!!!!!!!!!
But with Digeo on the ropes I doubt it will ever happen.

Is there more than one type Moxi box?
Is there more than one type Moxi box?
Yes, the model numbers end in 12 or 22.....meaning one room two tuners or two rooms two tuners. The 22 has a DVD player and a bigger hard drive and can connect to a satellite receiver (called the Moxi Mate0 so you can watch from another room.

thank you for your replies.

This actually doesn't have much to do with accessing the DVR stuuf. This is a one time menu for you to select all the cahnnels you want to see on the screen. Just do that and say submit. I will try and get a screen shot of what I see in a minute......
Ok...I'm not good at screen shot but this is where you need to start...click on TV at the left.
....How to paste a screen shot into here?

FWIW, my charter.net account has been established for 2 years, so I've been in that menu before to set up channels. They must have just screwed up my account as it pertains to Charter.net or something. Its no big deal. I'm not calling them back. ;)
Try posting on the moxi forum and see if James can get it fixed.
Anyone else lose On Demand and recognition of their external hard drive? It happened to me overnight. I've done both a hard and soft reset with no luck. I'm trying to avoid calling customer service.

Did you get your VOD back yet? Mine's still out, the menu is completely empty.

No change in my status overnight. Still no VOD or recognition of the hard drive. When you say "the menu is completely empty" do you mean that "On Demand" is not a menu option for you either? Do you still have a menu option for "Settings" and, if so, is there a sub menu for "External Hard Drive"? Trying to determine how similar our issues are. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping the box isn't bad. I'm in Manchester and come out of the Town and Country head end. I was hoping a few more west county folks would chime in.

My situation is a bit different than yours. My External is still working, and the menu option in setting is there for that. In my main Moxi menu, I still have an On Demand menu item, but it is empty ... no show listings or sub-menus at all.

Everything here is fine. I too live in Manchester.
cadmium 01-27-08, 12:18 PM I live in South County and I have CharterHD service with a TivoHD. The Tivo says I should have the new channels (WeatherHD, DiscoveryHD, etc), but I'm not receiving them yet - just blank channels.
Should I be calling Charter, or should I just wait while something catches up?
hfthomp 01-27-08, 12:27 PM The new channels were delayed and will now come out on Jan 30th I believe, so you should probably just wait.
I wrote them an email and Charter called me and told me Jan 30 on the new HD stations. Tivo was working on the information that the new stations turned on the 23rd like the message I originally got said they would.
cadmium 01-27-08, 06:09 PM That's cool, I don't mind waiting a few days. I just didn't know if there was a problem I should look into. Thanks!
Lucid504 01-27-08, 11:12 PM KMOV just went hd and they was talking about the providers of kmov hd and the anchor was like charter is the only one that does not carry us and belo the parent company is open to talks whenever they want to talk....anyways im watching it OTA and the news looks pretty good in hd.
Yeah but, how many belo HD stations are on cable systems?
Lucid504 01-27-08, 11:22 PM Yeah but, how many belo HD stations are on cable systems?
i don't know belo owns tons of stations. Do you know the history of why its not carried....If you don't its because Charter does not want to pay to carry KMOV HD.

Here in Western NC, the non DVR HD Boxes from Charter come with only a Component In and a Component Out. However, no HDMI.

hfthomp 01-29-08, 11:02 AM Does anyone know the number or location of the local Charter office in St. Charles/St. Peters? I really need to swap out my DCT3416 DVR and I'm hoping I can just do the switch at the office instead of setting up an appointment. Thanks in advance!
Left Jeff 01-29-08, 11:07 AM Hey y'all.
I've recently dropped D* and have went OTA-only with a Tivo HD and I love it.
However, with baseball season approaching, I may give into weakness and pick up some kind of Charter cable to get FSN.
Does anyone know how much analog expanded basic is per month? I am assuming this is the cheapest way to get FSN-MW?
Also, has the QAM channels changed since this list:
9-10 - charter's vod/ppv commercial channel
81-1 thru 81-6 - ESPN Full court basketball
82-3 + 82-4 - PBS and PBS kids sub channel
82-6 - CW's sub channel thetube
83-7 - infomercials
90-15 - local real estate
93-61 thru 93-72 - blank with 93-72 having charter's vod/ppv commercials running in a tiny box in the upper right corner
102-3 - ksdk's sub channel weather
105-6 - abc
105-7 my46stl
105-8 thru 106-9 - various infomercials, charter ads, a single espn full court basketball game, cspan, religious channels, home shopping
106-10 - wgn
106-11 thru 118-30 - more religious channels and infomercials with 118-30 the tvguide channel
After 118-30 - Other people's vod
If anyone is using QAM, please help on this: I understand that there are currently NO HD channels "in the clear", however are the qam versions of my46 and wgn digital or are they "analog"?
The reason I ask is because my46 is the only channel I can not pick up OTA. I would like to have it. Even though it is only a digital upconvert and not HD. wgn would be a bonus for some extra sports.

I don't use QAM, but one poster did report about a week ago that WGN-HD briefly showed up in his HD channel lineup for a few hours. Perhaps we all could be receiving WGN-HD over QAM, but its not really convenient for me to rewire my system to find out. Please let us know if you can confirm either way.

great.
so back to my original question: what is currently available through Charter and QAM? Are there still no HD channels? And are My46 and WGN just re-mapped analogs or are they digital?
Lucid504 01-29-08, 02:18 PM For me the qam channels right now are
Versus
KSDK
KTVI
KPLR
KETC
KPLR 2
KDNL
Those are the HD Channels. The other qam channels are like cspan and other useless channels.
Vods are encrypted now
and
MY46 and WGN are not on qam they are just analog Channel 7 and Channel 23 i believe or something.

ok.
The only other available list I found and the discussion around it...said no HD locals and listed my46 and wgn as having QAM designations. It also listed the subchannels for pbs and nbc. I notice you listed kplr's which no longer active. Hmm...

After calling me to reschedule, now they don't have any cable cards and won't have them for 2 more weeks. Anyone know if this is true? Seems weird that I was scheduled to get them and then suddenly now they don't have them.

bballcards 01-30-08, 12:08 AM Does anyone know the number or location of the local Charter office in St. Charles/St. Peters? I really need to swap out my DCT3416 DVR and I'm hoping I can just do the switch at the office instead of setting up an appointment. Thanks in advance!
Take this for what it's worth...I had a DCT3416 for about a month last year (around March/April) that crapped out pretty quickly. I called for a tech visit to get it replaced, and the tech told me that they didn't have any DCT3416s available to swap out (all he had in his truck were Moxis), and that these boxes were only available to those that requested them for the first time. He also told me that these boxes were kept under tight seal (figuratively) at the distribution center. I declined the Moxi, dropped Charter DVR service, and now have a TiVo Series 3. The DCT3416 was a piece of crap; the TiVo is worth every penny.
Long story short....I would be SHOCKED if they had these boxes at the local Charter office.

No problem. When I got home tonight all three channels are now showing with their logos. Many Moxi automatically reboot on Thursday so that may have done it. Yours may be there by now too.
I just noticed a weird development with my Moxi remote. When I press the #2 button to go to channel 2, the TV instead goes to channel 1 & I then get the blue "you do not subscribe to this channel" screen.
So, 2 questions:
- Does anyone else have the problem where pressing "2" takes you to channel 1?
- Should Channel 1 (Video on Demand) be functioning? Is it just the same thing as channel 999?
< Ok, I guess that was 3 questions >

The new scheme is that 1 is replacing 999 but for me they both work to get to "On demand". My number 2 goes to channel 2.
If you press 42 does it go to 42? If it goes to 41 than your remote probably got some liquid into the keypad and is shorting out. Take the remote into your local charter place and they will replace it ..no questions asked. Plus the newer Moxi remotes (the ones with the Blue Chaqrter name and logo at the bottom) seem to allow you to control more devices other than your Moxi box. In my case the newer one allowed me to actually control the on/off of my AV receiver.
SnowdAY !!!!

First time posting in this thread; I've been active for a while in the Vizio threads. One of the things that lots of folks talk about in the Vizio threads is how they (and apparently Samsung) QAM tuners are susceptible to missing or incorrect CVCT (Cable Virtual Channel Table) data. This ends up causing missing channels on the QAM tuners.
A few days ago I started getting Discovery HD/Golf HD/TWC over my QAM tuner to go along with the two local channels - but some of the postings here indicate that other folks are getting a lot more QAM channels. Are any of you using either Samsung or Vizio TVs and having the same problem I am of missing channels? I'd really love to be able to get all the channels that were listed a few postings above this one!
There's a thread here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=12828880#post12828880 that has more info about CVCT data and apparently an engineer for Cox in Arizona who fixed it for those users. I doubt anyone from Charter lurks on these threads, but I'd be interested to hear feedback on if you think this might be the same issue...
Thanks.
Lucid504 02-02-08, 01:03 PM Discovery channel HD is quite annoying they have quite a few audio dropouts i check the signal strength's and everything its great. Also its the only station i have issue with and it sometimes pixelates when an audio dropout also happens.
