The saga continues with my on-demand. Tonight, nothing worked just got a 403 error code. I decided to watch HBO HD and my box shut off w/o warning. I tried to turn it on and there no lights, on top of that, it won't power up. I unplugged it and let it sit for a couple of hours and when I plugged it back in still nothing. I guess I have a dead box. I called Charters "24 hour" service and obviously got outsourced as the rep could barely understand me. I explained my issue about just getting a new box a few days ago due to the on-demand issues I had and now this new box was defective. I was almost insulted when he asked if my power was on in my house. I used to work for Comcast several years ago and I would have never asked a customer that. I think he thought I was some sort of idiot.... needless to say he was frustrated and did not believe me that my box was dead and insisted they send out a tech... I asked if I could just pick up a new box at the office and he said "absolutely not" because of my on-demand issue???? I'm confused and I think he was too. I'll be calling them tomorrow afternoon about this!

Unk, All my On Demand works fine. Obviously there are some issues here and you need a good tech but if past experience plays out you will get this solved but it will be long and painful. If you happen to get someone who knows the Moxi you are good but if you get somebody that doesn't is will be bad. Just stay on them and don't let them leave until it's fixed. If the next step doesn't get results e-mail the GM here in STL..It's gets results! His e-mail is SteveGM@charter.net.

tonycsmoke 04-26-08, 01:22 PM My moxi has been acting up - for the past several days Starz hasn't worked. If I try to go the channel - takes about thirty seconds to switch to it, then I get the blue screen of no service. If I try to go back to the previous channel or change to another channel it hangs. Takes up to two minutes to switch.
Also - I was recording lost the other night. I went to watch it Friday morning and it had the red dot next to it. It thought it was still recording the show. It recorded only forty minutes of it. It still shows that it's recording it and this is almost two full days past the airing. I've tried to stop recording, but it doesn't work. I'll restart it today to see if that helps.

Thanks for checking. Well, I unplugged my box last night and kept it unplugged until this afternoon and the box now powers up. The on demand is still not working (none of it this time), but I've been assured by someone at Charter that they are looking into my issue. I wouldn't be surprised if it does take some time to get resolved as it sounded like they don't know what the problem is, but recognize that it is there. This is the first I've had trouble with Charter or any cable company....but I will hold on for a few weeks. At least I still have my HD channels :)

Tony, I have had that unending recording a few times in the past. a reboot always fixes it and the red dot will go away.
Ha! So yesterday afternoon I went to turn on the Cards game and my box was dead AGAIN! I was having a party so I couldn't do anything about it. But I called and Charter and got an in-house rep.... so he is allowing me to pick up a new box.
davehyunch 04-28-08, 03:46 PM all is working again. called and got a $17 credit.

Good luck with that. If it is a moxi you are picking up, it won't work. The service guys need to install and call in the MAC ID of the box.
jasonstl 04-30-08, 08:31 PM Is anyone else still having trouble with ESPN and ESPN2? I have the Motorola DVR box (non-Moxi) and I get the blank screen. If I get up and walk towards the box, the signal comes in but pixelated and jumpy. Every other channel is fine.
What's the deal? Bad DVR box? I called Charter and of course they new nothing besides unplug the box and try again. I would prefer to not turn in my DVR, as I have shows recorded that I would like to keep.
Thx.

Get a firewire cable and record the ones you want to keep to your computer.

elgibby 05-01-08, 03:58 PM ESPN and Deuce were both out this morning for me, too; at first the BSOD; later pixelated and unwatchable....

I won't spare everyone with the details, but my On Demand still does not work. I emailed the GM as you suggested. We shall see what happens.
daigoro 05-01-08, 09:56 PM wondering if any one else in this forum is using the charter non-dvr HD box and connecting to home theater pc via fire wire.
About 3 weeks ago the shows I record on NBC thursday night line up have been flagged for no-copy I guess, they start to record but file never grows beyond 14k. This is the only channel that does this at the moment, rest of channels I record hbo, showtime, abc, etc work fine and record the firewire video as normal. HDNet channels have never recorded but that is because media center refuses to record them.
just looking for some feedback as to if anyone else has been having the same issues, guess I need to move these shows to OTA. First problem Ive had with charter and media center hd recording in 3 years :(

Are there simple instructions on how to do this? Will it work with a Moto DCH-3416?
Thanks

Yes it will work with a DCH3416. Just google "firewire recording with windows xp". There are several sites that provide instructions and drivers, including AVS. It took me about 15 minutes of reading, 30 seconds of download, and 5 minutes to set up and record. The only problem I had was when Charter downloaded an update to the 3416. It took me a while to figure out that the drivers were no longer applicable. A revisit to the website got updated drivers.

Thanks for the help.

Lost them as well. Never had lots, but did have all the local HD except for CBS (natch). A quick (well ... not so quick!) rescan and they're back.

guest68 05-06-08, 10:12 PM I am using OTA and have had no problems getting all the stations until last week. I have been moving the main antennae feed and since I have had trouble getting channel 4HD. I don't think there is anything wrong with what I changed, hope it's just coincidental....
I am in Washington, MO, about 40-50 miles from St Louis.
Anyone having trouble with 4 as well?
I am getting the analog signal just fine. Last fall I had trouble getting 4hd, especially during the daylight hours, then something changed and I had been getting it fine.
Thanks,
Steve
siuengr 05-07-08, 02:25 PM I have had the same problem. It will be coming in fine one day, then I will get nothing at all the next day. I spent half a day adjusting my antenna, checking my wiring, and couldn't get it to come in. I finally gave up, then is was fine like a week later. I think it must be something on their end.

I tried to TIVO two shows Tuesday night on 4.1. They came back unrecorded with the message "no signal". I called KMOV engineering yesterday and they confirmed that 4.1 was down for about a 24 hour period including Tuesday evening. I didn't press but got the impression that this wasn't the only time this had occurred.
guest68 05-08-08, 11:48 AM Thanks guys,
I was getting it some last night and this morning, but the signal doesn't seem as strong as before. Does anyone know it the 4.1 is broadcasted from the same tower as the analog?
I emailed KMOV about the problem, but haven't gotten any real response as of yet.
charlesrshell 05-08-08, 12:17 PM I am not sure if same tower for SD, but I lost 4.1 too on my OTA antenna. Dish satellite still had it though so I didn't lose anything. I have my OTA plugged into a Dish Satellite VIP722 HD DVR and it is reading 100%, same as it always has. So, I think they are back up to full power.
WOW!!!! guys did you notice the HD channels Charter is adding, they are on the channel listings already
8 new channels ( might be more )
762 AMC HD
763 CNN HD
764 TLC HD
765 APL HD
766 Sci HD
767 SMTH HD
793 TMC HD
798 TBS HD
Finally Charter keep it up
chuckparr 05-08-08, 09:18 PM I would trade them all for CBS-HD!
I would trade them all for CBS-HD!
my friend you have to be joking right
my friend you have to be joking right
No He's not I'm sure.... I would have said something similar if it were still back in the days of being ABC-less.... But for CBS I could care less. The shows I used to watch like CSI and such I just didn't care enough about so I just stopped watching anything on CBS since loosing its HD signal. Nothing on CBS is worth watching on OTA(live) or in standard def so as much as I would enjoy watching some of their shows I will continue to avoid CBS until Charter can offer it in HD.
chuckparr 05-09-08, 08:41 PM No I'm not joking-CBS is a major network (there may or may not be programs you like on the network) but for the three in my family it is a big deal. The 3 CSI's, Without A Trace, Criminal Minds, N3mbers,plus the occasional sports programming. For us the lack of CBS-HD impacts a good 1/3 to 1/2 of our regular viewing. I know I could (and probably should) switch to Direct TV, but from the fourms they have issues as well with reliability. I just foolishly wait for Charter and Belo to come to an agreement, and complain about Charter when I have the opportunity.
does anyone know the date when charter will be adding the new channels

Charter has an ad in the Post today that says May 15th.
StockInv 05-10-08, 06:55 PM The ad in this weekends Post-Dispatch says, "add these 8 new channels for only $8.00 MORE each month". Does this mean there will be an extra charge for these channels or are they included with the HD package?

They should be included as I haven't seen any notice of a price increase on my bill.
Yes, with the DVR in dual mode you can watch a recording on TV1 and a different recording on the remote TV2 and also be recording two channels all at the same time. I am new to Dish TV and have three VIP722 HD DVRs and one 625 SD DVR, so I hardly ever use the DVRs in dual mode. So I did a test and it worked. As far as the channel changing problem you are having, have your son check this setting. DVR should be in dual mode. Go into the DVR menu and check the Record Plus setup (menu-8-6). Try setting Activation to Enable and Record Preference to TV2. Let me know how this works out for you. Again, I am a little rusty using the TV2 setup.
Charles
I tried to do what I thought you said but what you said and what I thought you said was slightly different.
You can watch different RECORDINGS on both TVs while RECORDING 2 programs. Of course, you are not using the tuners to watch the recordings. You can not, however, do what I thought you could do. That is use one of the tuners to record and watch 2 different programs (without OTA connection). You can watch one program but the other TV must watch the recording program.
Sorry for the confusion.

maybe charter could afford to give us cbs-hd...if they weren't sponsoring a pro-stock car in nhra and paying race by race sponsorship for robbie gordon nascar.......as for their new 8 HD channels.......AMC-HD, who in the world is going to watch black and white HD........Animal Planet...didn't even know the channel was still around, HD or not.....Why don't they just buck up and get on board with CBS-HD............I bet the channel line-up person at Charter can get CBS-HD OTA so he/she doesn't care if the rest of the Charter Paying customers can get it either way...thru cable or OTA....oh ya maybe if they didn't have to pay the Charter tech for comming out 3 times to fix the same problem they could afford it too or advertise/subscribe mailing to the customer who already has Charter, 5 times in the same month !!!!!!!!

St. Louis Business Journal reported this week that Charter CEO got a $1.6 million performance bonus this year on top of $1 million plus salary. I guess I chose the wrong profession. A friend of mine (years ago) said cable TV was a "license to steal". I think he was correct.

actually AMC HD DOES NOT show black and white movies if you go look at the listings they are mostly just older movies like Terminator 2 and Missing In Action, Star Wars, Goonies etc. just alot of movies in the 80's and 90' this is actually a blessing get to see all those older movies from when I was a kid in High Def, HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!
and for you guys who keep talking about CBS-HD oh please you act like that is everyone's favorite channel besides your own, to hell with CBS-HD I'll take it when it gets here

Tell me where to find NCAA Basketball. Or SEC Football. Or Masters Golf, without going to CBS. There's no reason that I should have had to buy an antenna to get an HD signal to watch these programs when I already pay for cable from our loving overlords.

I actually built my own antenna at a cost of about $6. Here's a design: http://www.hackaday.com/2007/02/01/diy-hd-antenna/
As I've said before as to why I don't care too much about CBS-HD, I can get that OTA, and I can't say the same about the other new HD channels.

Sorry Walt I didn't respond sooner. I didn't get an email notification when you posted. I guess you have it all figured out now. Is there any other combinations you want me to perform for TV1 and TV2? It is well worth installing an OTA antenna if you don't have one. It is really nice to be able to record three things at the same time or record two and watch a third. My small antenna is in the attic and it pulls in 100% on most of the digital channels coming out of St Louis and the picture is super.

all 8 coming in now.
Yes, and I triggered a program update and now all the info is there also.

My son will be filling up my Moxi with HD Science channel shows, I know. Time to get that external Hard drive?

[UPDATE] Charter wouldn't let me opt out since they aren't doing this to customers here yet. Instead of saying "we'll remember your preference to opt-opt out when the service is activated in St. Louis", they replied:
Charter Communications is not providing enhanced online advertising services in your area at this time. Should Charter launch such a program in your area, you will be notified in advance. At that time you will need to revisit this page and opt-out of the program

I got an e-mail from someone at Charter, that said these 8 new channels are just the first wave, and there will be more, this year. So, maybe Sci-Fi will be one of them. I'd really like the Travel Channel, in Hd.
Anyway, these new channels look excellent to me, especially Smithsonian Channel. The difference between AMC HD and regular AMC, is like night and day. I've never had any complaints regarding the quality of Charter's HD, as it's always looked crystal clear. My complaint is not enough HD channels, and there is still not nearly enough.
rmj 1080p 05-15-08, 07:47 PM Yes, TMC is a pay channel but that does not stop Charter from giving you the signal and then charging you for it. This happened to me when Starz HD was introduced. I had to call and tell them to cancel it and remove it from my bill. Well, I now have TMC in HD and I'm sure it will be the same story. I can't believe that Charter pulls this kind of crap on its customers. I can't believe I put up with it............
chuckparr 05-18-08, 07:25 PM OK, my HDTV has a (Charter) digital converter box, so next February when all signals go digital it is OK. I know my two analogue TVs will have to have a digital converter box after Feb. But how about a new TV that has a built-in digital tuner. Will it need a box?

The switch over has nothing to do with cable TV, so any analog TVs you have connected directly to Charter will continue to function as expected for now... I say for now because it is assumed that at some point in time Charter will be dropping the analog channels but that date and time is only known by Charter and has nothing to do with the switch over you are talking about..... As a Charter customer who wants to see more HD content I can only hope that the days of analog are quickly going to disappear.. But I know there are lots of people out their that rely on and prefer the analog only option so its hard to say just when this change will occur.

Washington, D.C. (May 20, 2008) -- Charter Communications has announced that it will offer the new Moxi HD DVR 3012 in the third quarter.
Charter's chairman (and leading shareholder), Paul Allen, is also the head of the company behind Digeo.
Multichannel News reports that Charter will first deploy the Moxi HD DVR in the St. Louis area, the company's headquarters.
The set-top will include dual-tuner high-def recording, external storage capability and support for 'multistream' CableCards. Charter told Multichannel News that it will charge the same for Moxi as its current HD DVR service, which is $10 for the receiver and $10 for service.
“Charter is committed to providing its customers a superior video service,” Charter's Ted Schremp said in a press release announcing the deployment. “The Moxi platform is very popular with our video customers for its ease of use and functionality. The Moxi 3012 HD DVR has even more of the features and interactivity our customers value, and we are excited to bring the next generation of Moxi to our customers' homes.”

I will be attempting to jump on that as soon as I hear its available... 3rd quarter is soon but since they didn't give a date I am betting it will be the end of 3rd into 4th that you start seeing this available.
I won't jump until it comes with a mate. I assume that will be model 3022.

If they were smart they would allow any Moxi to support a Mate being that this new version has been in development for so long. Unfortunately I think we all know that will not be the case... I'll probably jump on this newer Moxi and then keep an ear out for when the Mate option is released as who knows how long it will be till' the Moxi + Mate becomes available.
The Moxi + Mate is the only thing that keeps me with Charter. IMO, it is THE BEST thing Charter has done.
tullysdad 05-23-08, 12:09 PM I have an extra Moxi Mate that I will no longer be needing. Anyone interested? If you have a Moxi 9022 with a mate now, this would allow you to hook up a 2nd Moxi Mate to your system.
Anyone else's cable messed up? Mine says "One moment please" on all channels , I tried a power off and on and does the same. I tried calling Charter to get it reset but the number is constantly busy

Mine too in Alton. On HDTV, I get the HD channels, but nothing else. On the SD tv's, a few channels work, others are "frozen" with a stilll picture.
davesalaman 05-24-08, 11:01 PM Ah, I hadn't tried any SD channels. My SD channels are out too.
Many 'frozen' channels here in Fenton too. They don't work off the moxi, thru a digital tuner, nor straight to tivo.
For those having issues I just called 1-888-get-charter and did the "reset cable box" option and it seems to be working fine now...
All channels are now back for me too, but I didn't do a thing.
In addition to my MOXI box, I have a TIVO Series 3
with 2 Cable Cards. When the additional HD channels
were added two weeks ago, I started losing video on a few
HD channels (778, 790, 793) intermitantly on my TIVO
box only. A TIVO CSR said this was because Charter
introduced digital switching to accomodate the
bandwidth of the additional HD offerings. She also
said that unlike MOXI, the TIVO box does not have
2-way communication and thus does not perform
optimally in a digital switching environment.
As you might imagine, the Charter CSR's don't have a clue. They have no idea what SDV is and only repeat the mantra "We don't support Tivo."
I understand that there is an industrywide hardware solution in the works for the SDV/cable card issue. I'm just trying to get a confirmation that this is indeed what I am experiencing. I sent an e-mail to SteveGM a week ago but do not have a response.
Anyone else watching Charter with cable cards and experiencing issues with these channels or any others?

Series 3 and a Charter subscriber in North County. All three channels are coming in fine for me. I have had issues from time to time with Starz, but it's been on their end .. not mine.
While Charter may be rolling out SDV somewhere in their system, I don't think it's around these parts yet.

I am having a real hard time believing C* has implemented switched digital video. This would have required a major infastructure upgrade.
They have not been known for being on the bleeding edge and I can't imagine where they would come up with the resources to make such a move.
I don't think the current generation of Moxi would support it and certanly a one way cablecard wouldn't.
I would suspect you would be having trouble with more than just a few channels if this were the case too.
Even though the only clear QAM I reveive is the HD locals, I can see the signals of the encrypted programs and there isn't any reduction in the number of programs and where they're set up. None of them seem to be moving. None of the HD locals have moved.

Thanks for the responses. Since I posted this afternoon:
1. Found a 11/07 Charter press release announcing the roll out of SDV in southern California in '08. This indirectly confirms to me, as you both suggest that we don't have it here yet.
2. Got a personal phone call from a CSR responding to my SteveGM e-mail. She was as clueless as all the others but I applaud the effort.
3. Best of all - all three channels came in fine this evening for the first time in weeks. (knock on wood)

My understanding is that C* will be testing SDV in a select number of markets beyond SoCal before an official roll out occurs during the rest of '08 and throughout '09.

Sadly, you should have come here to ask if the above were possible first, since there are multiple people here who would have told you both of the above are not possible.
Most people here are sadly far more knowledgeable about these things than the average Charter CSR.

Believed translation: "@ the lake" = Lake of St. Louis
When using DVI to HDMI, you will NEVER be able to get audio. That's not a box limitation. DVI output only carries video. Period. Converting the connector to HDMI on the other end won't magically allow the connection to transmit audio.

Well, some of us actually prefer the HDMI-less MOXI boxes to Charter's other HDMI-enabled DVR boxes.
Advantages:
External hard drive support
Far better user interface
Multi-room support with the Moxi 9022 and Mate
Quite frankly, if the day comes when Charter can no longer offer me a Moxi box, that is the day I will seriously consider jumping to DirecTV.

Is the Charter feed of The Open breaking up? Is it Charter or a problem from the west coast? I have noticed that ESPN is not the most stable feed.

blues96 06-20-08, 02:53 AM I'm moving to St. Charles in late July and am curious if there is any light at the end of the tunnel for Charter getting a contract with CBS for carrying the HD signal. If not, what's the best choice for CBS HD (besides over the air). I was considering Satellite, but want to keep high speed broadband like I have with Comcast now.
Thanks

Where are you Dave? I live off Glen Crossing Road. There is a lot of construction going on (Uverse and curbs are coming:D). Charter keeps telling me that the construction is the problem. The problem is affecting everyone I know with Charter HD in my area (a large sample of 2). I have a Moto DVR and a 6200. The problem is on both although the 6200 is not as bad. I don't see how this can be construction related and not have the construction affect any of the other HD channels.
Oh, btw, it is a Charter problem. Sat subs are not affected.

I contact Charter monthly about progress on the CBS/Belo situation. I keep getting the "negotiations continue and we are hopeful" line. Last month I had an e-mail from one of their customer service reps. after my monthly inquiry, and she as much as said there was no progress expected in the next few months and encouraged me to consider OTA options. I too would like to keep cable for the high speed internet and what seems to be less hassle than satellite. (I am in Alton and have had no issues with picture quality-I just would like CBS-HD.) OTA is difficult for me because of the distance, I would need a roof mounted antenna/switcher, etc. and again that is more hassle. So, I have just resolved to keep Charter for now and continue to complain.
I don't see Charter striking a deal with Belo before the shutdown in February. When there is only digital what will happen with "right to carry". Perhaps they will continue the SD feed as a sub channel. They either do that or lose out with commercials to all the charter subs.
Walt

I may be wrong but I think Charter is caring the digital signal just not the HD signal so the February deadline has no effect on this. But like I said I could be wrong.
I think Charter carries the analog signal and converts it to digital and delivers both. Belo's digital channels are channel 56 and channel 4-2 (I don't know what it is mapped from). When analog goes away, there will be nothing for Charter to convert to digital. I think it is going to get very interesting. The fight is on now about subchannels and right to carry. Will the providers be allowed to force subchannel carraige through "right to carry". I hope not.
Walt
Robert Simandl 06-21-08, 10:10 PM Quick correction... KMOV discontinued channel 4-2 a couple of months ago. Never announced or anything, it just stopped registering during HD tuner OTA autoscans and channel 4-1 started receiving full bandwidth again. The full bandwidth was demonstrated by 1-hour recordings taking almost 6 gigs of hard drive space after editing commercials. While 4-2 was active, those same 1 hour recordings from 4-1 only took four and a half gigs.
Here's hoping (unrealistically, unfortunately) that 4-2 NEVER comes back!

But look at channel 9 (PBS). 9.1 is PBS-HD. 9.3 is a digital version of the analog broadcast. 9.2 (I think) is cartoons, and 9.4 is something else. I personally want all those channels over charter!

All those channels come at the price of QUALITY. If you remember when PBS went HD the signal was 1080i. It is now 720p and not nearly as good because of all the bandwidth sucking subchannels.

ESPN/2 HD on Monday was barely watchable; Showtime HD had breakups; even FX standard def recorded a few days ago had breakups.
Last night, ESPN HD seemed almost OK.
I had a tech out a couple of weeks ago to check signal levels and my Moxi, and everything here is OK.

Abaddon 06-29-08, 06:07 PM Hi all, I'm moving to St Louis in roughly two weeks (near Wash U). I'm looking over the Charter services to determine what I want to do, and I had a few questions in no particular order.
#1 - There are three Internet tiers listed. For my usage I think the medium option would be sufficient, if "up to" means "at least 1/2 of up to full what we list" if that makes sense. I have Time Warner right now and get around 5kbps down and 0.5 kbps up max. The question: when they say "up to 10kbps down and 1kbps up", what kind of realistic rates do you see?
#2 - The website mentions you can use your own hardware (!) and do the install yourself (!!) instead of them doing it. This is rather shocking to me coming from a service where that just isn't an option. Has anyone gone this route? I would probably buy the hardware and have them install it so they can do any cabling interior to the house that is necessary but would appreciate any thoughts on this.
#3 - From reading previous posts it would appear that the Moxi box is the way to go. It seems like this is something you can ask for but with variable success... any suggestions here would be appreciated.
#4 - The Charter site I am on right now (www.charteronly.com) has various packages listed but I can't find a channel lineup here. Where can
I find the channel listings?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
kerrigjl 06-29-08, 06:34 PM Hi all, I'm moving to St Louis in roughly two weeks (near Wash U). I'm looking over the Charter services to determine what I want to do, and I had a few questions in no particular order.

I have the same tier you're considering, and I pretty consistently hit around the mark. Just now, at speedtest.net, I got 10674/971, and I'm in the central west end (about 2 miles east of where you're looking). Should be similar.
#4 - The Charter site I am on right now (www.charteronly.com) has various packages listed but I can't find a channel lineup here. Where can
I find the channel listings?
Charter.com has lineups, as do several tvguide type websites. But charter.com is the official site.
You may want to call and see if they can beat some of the referral deals - for example, I'm on the Charter Biggest package for $49.99 for a year based on a deal I'd seen online, and I have 10mb internet for $20 and phone for $15 per month for similar reasons. So look around, and see if they're willing to play ball to get your business. Especially if you're pre-wired, it doesn't cost them anything to activate you.
The self install more than likely is only an option for existing customers when they are changing/upgrading existing service... I would bet you will end up with an install tech being required to come on site... You may be able to negotiate a free install so don't just accept their installation fee by default without mentioning you don't like the idea of paying for the install.
Pretty much everything else has been covered by kerrigjl but I will just restate the importance of not accepting their first offer. Mention U-verse, Dish/directtv pricing and all that stuff before signing up. Also make sure that any promo you get on will last longer than just a couple months... 12 month promos are always optimal and never require a contract so you can cancel at any time.
As mentioned above Charter in St. Louis has a fairly good network 98% of the time so you almost always will get the speed they advertise. They from time to time do have bandwidth issues as they grow/increase speed packages but they usually are quick enough to respond to those issues and get them resolved fairly quickly.

Abaddon 07-01-08, 12:15 AM Thanks for the replies guys, this is great info.
I am not much of a haggler by nature but I think I'm going to have to force myself to do it this time. Hopefully I am successful despite lack of practice/ability :D
I will make sure to check around for competitor pricing as well as any deals that might be floating around too...
Again, thanks!

My Moxi is dying!!! BOOOOOOO!!!!
Have any of you had the following problem?
My wife went to watch TV today and saw that the display was flickering wildly. There were random numbers displaying. I had her unplug the box and plug it back in. Now nothing. You can see the green power/standby light (it seems faint, but that could just be me), but nothing else displays and no picture on the TV. If I hold reset down for 5 seconds you see the green light for messages lights up really quick and fades, and still nothing. I had her unplug the box for 20 minutes, just in case it was overheating, and I saw several forums where users said that would fix this problem for them.
So anyway, we have a tech coming Thursday to swap out the box and they passed along the "oh we'll try to get you a Moxi box, but we might not have any, so you might get one of the other boxes." UGH! I'm in Kirkwood and Uverse is just down the street. Charter better hope that tech has some working Moxi boxes in that truck. ;-)
Do we know if Steve Trippe and/or Doug Kappauff are still with Charter? Those guys bent over backwards for me last year to swap out my Motorola and get us our old Moxi back. Hoping they can work some more magic for me if you guys don't have any possible fix ideas between now and Thursday.
Take care!
Rob
That sounds exactly like my Moxi when she bit the dust.
I got swapped out with the Motorola unit. I initially hated it, but it does do a a better job than the Moxi on SD channels & is less sensitive to sub-optimum signal levels.
The downside issues include a much less user-friendly on-screen interface & the inability to add an external hard drive (though it does have much larger internal storage than the Moxi).
Charter is reportedly testing the new "black Moxi" & hopefully will be deploying them before long. You can find more info on the Moxi thread.
Good luck!

Charter refuses to admit they have a problem with ESPN. I inquired about it here during The Open. There CSRs tell me it is because of construction in my area but I would think that would affect all HD channels and not just ESPN and ESPN2.
I watched the Cards last night on ESPN on Directv here in Austin with no problems.

I just want to say a public "thank you" to SteveGM. I had a billing gripe that I posted here a while back. It was taken care of beyond my most optomistic expectations.
I had a boss like Charter once. He could really P*** you off in the morning and make you think he was the best in the afternoon, or visa versa. It was quite hard to work for him.

Tried to watch Cards on ESPN HD -- blue screen of non-subscriber death. On ESPN SD, it's ESPN News. Wha??
Is ESPN down or is the game blacked out because FSN (SD) has it?

My guess is that it was blacked out

Yeah been up and down all morning but things appear to be back to normal.
I find that article kind of funny with the guy reporting TV problems since more than likely that would be completely unrelated to a router issue.
They told us that they performed a Cisco IOS upgrade last night and after the upgrade the processor on the routers was running at 100% causing the issues.

I guess I do see some people reported TV outages during the same time frame.... Odd given the excuse I was given was the Cisco upgrade yet I see where others were told Fiber cuts... Perhaps they just coincidentally had all **** break on them at the same time as my wife never Reported TV issues just internet.
popweaverhdtv 07-10-08, 05:41 PM supposed to be 8 more hd channels comming to hd charter st louis aug 15, 2008 ...anyone know the new lineup?
Maybe there's some teeth to your thinking here. Charter's spreading the love of more HD in Wisconsin (Source: http://www.tvpredictions.com/charter071008.htm ). Maybe, these channels will trickle throughout rest of its footprint?

Except those are all Channels already offered in STL so if anything sounds like that area is being caught up to a similar line up as we already have available to us.

Sorry for the oversight. I'm coming from an area where there's only about 20 full-time HD channels and those 6 aren't part of the lineup. In addition, the system hasn't had reliable HD On Demand in about 4 months due to hardware issues. Hopefully, the trickle for STL will be new HD channels beyond what's already available.
black_macleod 07-16-08, 10:52 PM Why is MTV HitList in my HDTV menu on my Moxi? Its not in HD either.
Is this new ATT U-verse a lot better than charter? Has anyone recently switched?
black_macleod 07-29-08, 02:02 PM Is this new ATT U-verse a lot better than charter? Has anyone recently switched?
Check the StL OTA thread, the answer is yes. Well, switched, better is subjective.
Is this new ATT U-verse a lot better than charter? Has anyone recently switched?
Yeah as mentioned the STL OTA thread has plenty of U-Verse talk lately... Some people will prefer it, some people such as myself will laugh at it as being a complete waist of time and effort by AT&T as it is being done half assidly Most importantly 2 HD streams at once would never be tolerated in my household as it is not enough to satisfy me, also I don't like to be told what I can and can't do so even if the limit was a bit higher it probably still wouldn't be enough for me or would make me feel limited in my ability to use what I am paying for.

black_macleod 08-01-08, 10:26 AM I got an email from Charter sometime last night:
"Charter is now offering customers more of what they want! Charter now has so much more to offer our customers in variety, speed and technology that our competitors just can’t compare. We have recently launched eight new High-Definition channels to our HD programming lineup, for a total of 31 unique HD channels! "
I don't see any new HD channels ... and I only counted 27, although I don't have the Premiums in my list that I don't subscribe to. So I dunno wtf they are talking about.

Sorry, OT - I'm sick of Charter Internet. I just cancelled our subscription after not having internet for a week. The problem is, unless I go cellular wireless, I don't know who to go with.
We don't have a land line phone since we only use our cell phone. I can't seem to locate anyone who serves DSL to our area. We just moved to Chesterfield so I was hoping to have had better luck with options. Any ideas?
black_macleod 08-01-08, 03:02 PM I thought ATT offered naked DSL now?
I checked my address on their website and they said it was unavailable which seems odd. I thought it was b/c I didn't have phone service.
Nevermind. I finally found a phone number and gave AT&T a call. They do have service to our residence and they are much cheaper than Charter.

Ready for the NFL Network's national debut of the new Colts indoor/outdoor $720,000,000 masterpiece in downtown Indianapolis: Lucas Oil Stadium hosts the Colts/Bills pre-season game on Sunday night.

Charter Communications
Charter Communications was one of the first MSO's to provide NFL Network in 2004. Initially the deal called for the network to be carried on Charter's digital-basic programming and included NFL HD and NFL On Demand. However in December 2005 the network pulled the signal from Charter and filed breach of contract suit against Charter in New York Supreme Court over contract language regarding distribution. It was reported that NFL Network wanted a 125 percent rate increase and placement on expanded basic tiers.

No it seems to be in a total stalemate. Any Charter sub who really, really cared probably switched over to another provider and those who remain either don't care or don't really miss NFL network that much.
I'm in the second camp. NFL network was fine default programming, but nothing more. If I was into fantasy football, that might have been different, but I'm not.

Not in the last 12 minutes, no :). No CBS-HD or NFL Network.
goblues38 08-21-08, 04:54 PM #1....have you ever had or watched the nfl netwrok? Outside the 2 or 3 actual games they show a year, the content is espn lite. Not worth the money the NFL wants. Charter is doing the right thing.
#2....if you are on this board, you have some kind of technical savey to you, it took me a $20 trip to Home depot and 2 hours on a sunday afternoon to mount a small antenna on my roof. I now have CBS hd.
Charter is doing the right thing for it's people. They not allowing the content providers to bully them into raising prices.
And the company as a whole has gotten their act together over the last few years. Charter internet is leaps and bounds faster and more reliable than DSL. And phone is 1/2 the cost.
gbshuler1 08-21-08, 08:53 PM Oh my.. I forgot about CBS-HD. I mean I forgot that CBS carries a lot of football.
I just bought a home theatre. I don't want to watch in SD.
Where is a good place to start to learn about antennas in STL (without searching through 1000 forum posts)? I have a big VHF/UHF antenna mounted in my attic. Will that pull an HD off air signal?
I remember reading a few years ago about a Boeing engineer in St. Louis who sold custom HD antenna's.
Much research ahead for me. The Colts/Vikings game on 9/14 looms. An hour ago I was contemplating getting a DirecTV dish (in addition to Charter/TiVo) just to get KMOV HD. An over the air HDTV antenna will be so much simpler!
Thanks for any help

All the digital channels in St. Louis are UHF, so yes, it should work. Why don't you hook it to your TV and hit 'channel scan' and see?

Antennas Direct (http://www.antennasdirect.com) is the locally based antenna dealer that I believe you are referring to. I have a simple "Silver Sensor" set-top antenna that picks up CBS-HD pretty well in my 2nd floor bedroom (Clayton).
goblues38 08-22-08, 11:04 AM In st. louis, all the ND broadcast antennas are in the area of HIGHWAY 270 and HIGHWAY 44 in sunset hills.
Aim your antenna in that direction. If you are with in 40 miles, and have a decent line of site (no big hills, large power stations near by) you will be able to pick up every HD station OTA.
Go to

to confirm.

I hooked it up and got about 17 channels, a few in HD (although not as clear as Charter cable). Of course.. the channel I want, KMOV-HD barely came in with snow all over it.
I have contacted Antennas Direct. I will put in whatever they recommend, hopefully in my attic so I can re-use the RG-6 wire run.
Thanks again

HD channels won't have snow .... they will either come in crystal clear, or not come it at all. Something isn't set right.

I agree - something is not set up right. Make sure you have 'Cable' set to OFF under channel settings (page 40 in you manual) and then rescan. Make sure TV input is set to TV. enter 4.1 on remote and see if you see KMOV-HD. If not, try 56 - the real UHF channel for KMOV-DT. If that doesn't work, stick a paper clip in the center of the antenna connector and attach any wire, and try it again. If THAT works even slightly, your RG-6 or antenna is hosed...
gb-
You are looking for 4.1 for KSDK-HD. If you can get it, the picture will be even better than via Charter due to the lack of compression. Not noticeable enough to be worth the aggravation, but better nonetheless.

I dunno why Planet Green is so outside the range of the other HD stations. I just always put my Moxi on the HDTV menu and it appears, I didn't even notice the channel number until you asked.

I am still learning about Digital OTA. Since the picture was 16:9 I assumed it was NOT the analog one.
The only thing I can think of as to why I would get snow is the cheap RG-6 splitter I used in a pinch to extend my antenna cable. I think it's frequency was up to 900Mhz.
I am attempting to call an installer who will come to my home and get in my attic.
All I want is KMOV CH-4. I am considering a directional antenna to try and pull in the relatively weak signal (540kW - 23 miles away). Antenna's Direct recommended a non directional model -- the DB4.

gbshuler1 08-25-08, 06:04 PM Great photo! Thanks for posting it.
Just curious. Did you point the antenna by calling someone downstairs and having them watch the channel on TV while you rotated it? (Is there another, better way to do it? Is it necessary?)

I used http://antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx to get a general direction for channel 4 in St Louis. So that is where I pointed it in the attic. The board the antenna is mounted on is not attached to the rafters and is close to the attic entry opening. If I ever have to tweet it in I can just stick my head up in the attic and turn the board a little. I also have a Channel Master Amp too. Installed the antenna to bring in CBS HD from St Louis when Charter Cable lost that HD channel. Since then I have joined Dish TV. The OTA antenna brings in several channels from St Louis and they all blend in with the Dish TV's DVR guide. Everything works great.
cosmictexan 08-28-08, 03:58 PM I just saw this. I guess our market is omitted and not considered Big Ten territory.
Charter, Big Ten Network Come to Terms
A wise man once said that there's nothing that makes a person more productive than the last minute. The cable industry and the Big Ten Network are apparently taking that credo to heart, as Charter Communications yesterday became the latest cable operator to ink a carriage deal with the Big Ten Network.
ST. LOUIS & CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 2008--Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) and the Big Ten Network have reached an agreement-in-principle on terms of a multi-year distribution agreement in which Charter will carry the Big Ten Network and related programming throughout the Big Ten territory.

OTA Charter Cable?
Do you mean cable direct in to a TV? I've been noticing some static on ours, but it is random channels and doesn't last long. The HDTV on the Moxi box is fine, its just the TV that doesn't have a box.
what i meant was cable plugged directly into the tv,I get like 6 channels. Only tv with clear picture is the box.
My guess is that your input is setup for antenna, not cable.

I'm a huge Tiger fan, but there is NO WAY IN HELL that I'd pay $30 to watch them beat up on SEMO
bailorg 09-10-08, 11:17 PM Slightly off topic but Charter has added two new SD digital channels
107 - PBS Kids/KETC 9.2
108 - Create/KETC 9.4
Also channel 799, formerly known as MHD, is now "palladia" which appears to have the exact same programming as MHD, just with an even more cryptic station name.
gbshuler1 09-12-08, 03:20 PM I am taking bids on a fairly basic attic install of an HDTV antenna. Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who would venture out to St. Charles county? Thanks..
also..
1. Looks like the power splitter for my pre-amp is going to be 90% of the way from the antenna to the TV (almost to TV). Will the pre-amp work? I would have to pay big $ to get an outlet in the attic to get the amp near the antenna itself.
2. (off topic, but still Charter..) I downloaded season IV of Lost from iTunes in HD 720p yesterday (they are having a sale..). They threw in SD files as well. It amounted to 28GB or 28Gb (not sure). Does Charter have a limit on how much you can download? If so is 28GB over the limit?
Thanks

I have this Terrestrial DB4 installed in my attic in O'Fallon, Illinois with a Channel Master 7775 UHF Amplifier. It has performed outstanding pulling in TV stations from St. Louis. TV stations are 20 to 30 miles away. All channels are 90 to 100% signal strength. Have it split three ways.
Left Jeff 09-15-08, 09:44 AM Your pre-amp should be "powered" by your RG-6 cable. You don't have to run a power supply up there. It'll send power through your regular cable.

otismalibu 09-15-08, 02:57 PM Odd question...
My brother-in-law has a second TV in a bedroom with Charter cable box, with (I think), just the standard 0-99 channels.
Yesterday, he hit channel up thinking he'd just go around the horn back to single digits, but then he said he was getting HD channels with numbers like 100.12 or something like this. I didn't even think that TV he is referring to is HD.
He said he was watching the CBS game and it was crystal clear. I just rolled my eyes when he was telling me this, because Charter doesn't even offer CBS in HD.
Any idea what these channels are?

yup.
those are qam channels. They always pass the local channels through...so if you have a qam tuner and just analog cable, you'll get the HD and/or digital versions of like Fox, NBC, etc...your brother-in-law was probably picking up the regular digital version of regular CBS...ask him if it was in widescreen...if it wasn't, then it was non-HD CBS.
plus like you said, no CBS-HD anyway...compared to his normal basic cable, no wonder he thought it was HD.

I've seen those qam channels referred to on this site, but have never known exactly what they were.
How new does something need to be to have the qam tuner? I'd be interested to see if I could pick those up on my bedroom TV.

Are you sure you let it finish the scan? If I recall correctly, most of Charter's QAM channels were numbered 100 and above.

Yep, it went to 100%. The Panasonic plasma didn't say the channels it was scanning though. If I set it to analog + digital scan it finds all the analog channels, although a lot of them have a decent amount of static. Maybe the digital channels do not have enough signal?
Are people still getting the QAM channels.. I thought I remember a few months back that Charter started encrypting stuff again taking away any QAM channels?
Maybe thats just the VOD data that I am thinking of that now has encryption.
bubba1972 09-29-08, 09:00 AM Is anyone having issues with some HD Charter channels this morining. NBC on 785 and CW on 781 are running in what looks like slow motion with no sound. My Tivo shows the signal level as good and the OTA feed is fine. Wondering if it was just me.

My KSDK was unwatchable this morning. The pic looked fine, but the audio was terrible.

I believe it is illegal for cable companies to encrypt any channels that can be recieved OTA.

Lucid504 10-02-08, 09:18 PM Does anyone have vonage that had charter phone installed before that since thats not a traditional setup how would i go around to doing this? The way i was thinking of how to do this is that the box that charter comes into with the phone i unplug the phone jack things and also disconnect from the apc they installed.
black_macleod 10-05-08, 11:41 PM Charter in StL sent me a coupon with my bill for free movie channels for a year, no strings (cept you have to remember to cancel next year, lest ye pay onward.) So with my current free HBO/Cinemax and now Starz/Encore I nearly have them all for free. Just need Showtime/TMC
gbshuler1 10-07-08, 12:32 PM I finally got my HDTV Over the Air (OTA) antenna installed (a DB-8) in the attic. I couldn't see how to align it accurately so I just "eye balled" it as best I could with a compass. The TiVo HD receiver found KMOV easy enough. I watched Letterman that night in HDTV awe. When I went to record an NFL game on Sunday it was Awful -- massive pixellation and drop outs. I wonder if this is (1) the antenna alignment, (2) KMOV, (3) TiVo.
I would like to align my new antenna by measuring the signal. Does anyone on the forum own an Emitor Digiair Db Meter? I would pay handsomely to rent it.. (they cost around $250 dollars).

Any chance you could scan the coupon for those of us who get bills electronically?
Thanks!

It wasn't a coupon with a code or anything. Just call the regular Charter number and tell them you got an offer in the mail.
Besides I already threw it away :)
Did anyone have a bunch of channels disappear last night at midnight? I was watching MSNBC and it suddenly shut off (showed NO SIGNAL on screen after 10 minutes) There were also bunch of other channels without signal.
Also, QAM channels 2.1 and 11.1 disappeared a couple of days ago and have not came back.
black_macleod 10-28-08, 06:51 PM Yep same here but they were all ok this morning

smullen 10-29-08, 11:26 PM Every once in awhile I talk to a guy that works in one of their (Charter's) Head Ends (where the video feeds come from and split out to the various areas) and they do maintenance between the hours of Midnight and Six am.... Mine was out then and they are all back on and working...
Also, I heard they are working to add atleast 5 more HD channels to their HD lineup before the end of the year...
He could not tell me what they were yet... He was just working on moving stuff around to make room for them...
2.1 was still unavailable last pm. 11.1 was there.
don_mccarter 10-30-08, 11:23 PM On my system 2.1 has moved to 100.1.

black_macleod 11-02-08, 01:14 AM Just got a service message on my Moxi, effective 12/2/2008, new channels:
SD - American Life TV, Hallmark Movie Channel, Reelz, and Sportsman Channel
HD - FoodHD, HGTV HD, and Nat Geo HD
Says Versus/Golf HD will be Golf HD
I'm disappointed in the new HD choices, except for Nat Geo.
Also, wonder if this means we are losing Versus HD part of the Golf/Versus? That's a lot of NHL in HD down the drain :-( I don't care about golf!
On my system 2.1 has moved to 100.1.
i will check that out. thanks in advance.

2.1 and 100.1 are channels picked up by the TV's digital tuner when cable is
connected directly to it. If your TV has a digital tuner try connecting the cable without the box and scan for cable channels.

Well, on my Moxi I got to the "Recorded" Menu, select the show that is recording, and a "Cancel Recording" option shows up.

If I go to My DVR and highlight the show that's recording, I don't have a Stop Recording option...just Delete.
But if I highlight the show in the guide and hit the Record button again, I found an option that ends it.
There's probably a simpler way, but I've not figured it out. :)
Thanks.
Does anyone have a new Moxi - are they even out? I hate my Motorola DVR box. Anybody have ideas for options? Thanks.
Do any of you use Blockbuster Total Access or Netflix? My wife and I are thinking about either one to save money. We have a habit of deciding to get a movie to watch last minute on a friday evening. Not sure if I'm desciplined enough to think ahead.
From the day you drop the movie into the mailbox, how fast till you receive the next one?
Thanks & sorry for the OT!
black_macleod 11-10-08, 06:47 PM I don't know if anyone else in the StL got Charter's letter today about the package / rate changes, but ... its confusing as all hell! So I called them.
Basically they are doing away with the "packages" (Big Value, etc.) as stated in the letter. But they are upping the prices on tier, so yea, your current service won't change, but overall you'll pay more.
I asked "so my HD is dropping by $3 but overall I'll be paying more per month?" So I laid into them. Basically I got another 12 months of free HBO/Cinemax starting now, because she said in Jan (when my current deal runs out) that "probably won't be available."
I'm about to jump to UVerse. I can't stand having to call each year to either figure out their puzzle rate changes or to get back the bundle rate that I had all year. Their policies are mind boggling ......... no wonder they are going under.
And she gave me a solid "No" on whether they are getting CBS in HD.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
snevensmores 11-11-08, 08:59 AM .From the day you drop the movie into the mailbox, how fast till you receive the next one?
No experience with Netflix, but I have had Blockbuster online before about a year and a half ago. I was in Edwardsville at the time, and I'd get it the day after they shipped it.
IE: I'd send the movie on a Wed, they'd receieve it on Thurs and ship one out that day, and I'd receieve my new movie on a Friday.
Of course, the great thing about Blockbuster is that, at least when I was using the service, you could take your movie to their store and trade it in on a rental. It also notifies their web server immediately, so, if you trade your movie in early enough during the day, your next queued movie will be sent out by Blockbuster that day.

If you read my post a bit back about the new rate letter I got ... you're going to have to call them. Its entirely cryptic as to how they have re-priced the tiers since they've done away with the "value bundles" that used to be called Big, Bigger, and Best.

retnav2002 11-26-08, 06:25 AM Went home yesterday morning and found that my Moxi box had a burned up power supply. Called Charter at 730 and told them once I got through there automated troubleshooting asked to have a new Moxi installed told that would not be a problem and they were out to replace it by 10 pretty good response. Of course this tech did not have a Moxi on his truck so he installed a Motorola box which I do not like. Called Charter back in the afternoon when I woke up as basically was told to take what I got they do not control what the tech has. To make a long story short anybody know how I can get another Moxi out of them.
jkramer 11-28-08, 01:52 PM It's hit or miss if you can get another Moxi at this point. The original Moxi's are out of service and the only thing you might be able to get is one they recently got back from another customer. I sucks I know because my Moxi has been acting up lately and I absolutely will not have one of the Motorola DVR's in my house.

It was a standalone ad section with last week's Sunday sales paper, I believe.
BTW, the stations for 12/2 are already active on my Moxi box, but there is no program info available yet.

I just had a response from Charter in regard to a question I e-mailed them about the Golf/Versus Channel-772. Effective tomorrow Golf Channel will be full time occupant of channel 772 and Versus will only be available on SD channel 45. "Sufficent bandwidth is not available to carry both in HD" they say. I guess they think taking up bandwidth for The Weather Channel is a better use of bandwidth. That seals it for me,coupled with their continued inability to have KMOV-HD. I'm moving to DIRECTV.

The new channels are active on my TiVo HD as well (no guide data). However, they're obviously not SDV channels (since they work). I wonder when Charter will grace the St. Louis area with the SDV curse....
rmj 1080p 12-02-08, 07:09 PM I've heard most people on this board talk about the Moxi boxes but I have never seen one in action. I was given a Motorola from the start (Sept. Since I've never seen the Moxi I think the Motorola is just fine. What am I missing?

Advantages of all Moxi systems:
-Support for external hard drive
-The ability to output all channels in more or less native resolution, i.e. 480i, 720p, 1080i
-Moxi user interface, which by almost all accounts is easier to use than the Motorola interface
Advantages of the Moxi 9022 with Mate (which I have, but is apparently rather rare):
-Multiroom system that allows the user to watch recorded programming on a secondary TV
-Mate downconverts HD channels to allow viewing of HD channels on the secondary TV
-DVD player in the main unit of the 9022, that while not the best DVD player out there, is incredibly simple to use, and also allows for DVD playback on the secondary TV through the Mate

One of my friends has the Moto box, I have the Moxi. The only reason most Moxi users don't want to switch is because of the menu system. It takes a lot to get used to switching to the Moto menu system, yet my friend can fly through it cause its all he knows.
Subjectively, I think his SD channels look a bit better than mine, but I have a 1080p tv and his is only 720p and smaller, so its probably just my old eyes :)
But I, like most Moxi users, would hate to give mine up.
Also you can hook an external drive up to the Moxi for more storage, I'm not sure if the Moto box has that option .... however, it has a larger internal drive by default and he never runs out of space and records a ton more than me.

otismalibu 12-04-08, 10:03 PM Anyone occasionally getting Spanish audio on ABC and CC on CBS?
On numerous occasions, we've been getting Spanish audio on prime time ABC shows.
I just watched CSI and it was CC or whatever it's called where the audio descriptions are overlayed on the regular audio.
This isn't with a cable box. I'm using my DVD tuner and just using an old TV as the monitor. A friend of mine mentioned the same thing happening with ABC.
Has anyone heard of this?

what do you mean buy this are u say the channels on the Moto are displayed improperly, and do they look better on the Moxi because of this
what is the difference displaying these resolutions on the Moxi vs Moto

They're not necessarily better looking, but it gives you better flexibility to see what looks better on your set.
From what I understand, on the Moto, you have to choose either a 720p or 1080i signal to be sent from the box at all times, when you set up the box. The potential problem is that different HD channels broadcast in different resolutions, i.e. some broadcast only in 720p and others broadcast in only in 1080i. The Moxi box doesn't make you choose either or. If the channel broadcasts in 720p, it sends a 720p signal to your tv, if you then change the channel to a channel that broadcasts in 1080i, the Moxi will then send your tv a 1080i signal. Now if your tv renders the picture perfectly regardless of what signal the cable box sends you, then the point is moot, but the Moxi box gives you more flexibility to compare your options.
By the way, from all accounts SD channels do look better on the Moto box, so I'll acknowledge that as an advantage for the Moto.

From what I've gathered from people who have different providers is that the channel is just in preview mode until the official January 1st launch. Apparently now they just seem to be just showing various MLB DVDs over and over again, so I don't know if that lack of programming has caused Charter to adjust their schedule.

Must be the tuner in my DVR. Sunday night, the audio and video on NBC weren't in sync. I just had the A/V plugs running from the DVR to my TV and was using the DVR tuner. I hooked up the coax and when I watch via the TV tuner, everything seems normal.

I have a Series 3 with one M card and one S card. So the answer is "both". With the Series 3 it doesn't matter which card but you do need two cards for both tuners to work.

Such a one sided story is kind of an entertaining read. I still support charter as holding out as long as possible is their only negotiating power. With that said though I don't think charter can last to long though without CBS so they better come up with some sort of deal fast. I for one no longer watch any CBS shows after the hd feed was pulled a couple years ago and I haven't missed it a bit.
bschulte 12-20-08, 02:44 PM I watch CBS mainly for the college basketball. Knowing Charter's typical incompetence, I expect to be without CBS for at least several weeks. I was thinking about getting an antenna anyway as a backup, but this news along with Charter's possible bankruptcy in 2009 means HELLO Channel Master!
