Have a chance to pick up a HD Directv satellite receiver and currently have Directv SDTV with dual LNB. Will I have to re-aim the oval dual LNB dish that I have to new satellite(s) when I sign up for HD? I am not interested in Directv local channels in HD.

Thanks!

I am thinking as I review this that maybe I should have posted this on the MPEG4 Directv thread, sorry if I did this incorrectly.

You'll need the new H20 (or HR20 DVR) & a 5 LNB dish to get all the HD that DirecTV will be offering.

If you just want the existing HD channels, an older HD receiver & 3 LNB dish will work fine.

The dual dish will not get all the existing HD channels.

That would be existing national channels. Local HD via the dish require the 5LNB and an H20 or HR20. Eventually, all HD will move to Ka band MPEG4 signals.

You can get the triple SAT (Phase III) oval 18"X24" three LNB dish if you do not desire the HD locals. You aim at 101A and the 110 and 119 satellites pull in the HD content. It is lighter and smaller then the KAKU dish.

It may not be good for long. New satellites going up later this year which will provide the new HD channels may be destined for the 99 and 103 slots. I wouldn't play with anything but a 5LNB dish if going for a new dish right now. Conjecture is that all D* satellites and programming may be from 99, 101, and 103 sometime in the future. If that happens, a fairly small 3LNB dish would do the trick.

I'd say contact directv in most cases they will install a H20 and Ka/Ku dish for free or at low price. You have to agree to another year. But if you have the old 2 LNB dish then you've had it for awhile.

Keep in mind that if you have more then 2 boxes you may have to run more line from the dish. The triple sat and the KA/KA have a 4port multiswitch built in which means all 4 lines may need to be run to a central distrbution point...

But anyway at this time the triple sat can get all current non local HD channels. But like said in the near future you may be missing out on some great HD channels.

I'm still using a 3LNB triple sat at the time but may upgrade the dish myself as I installed dishes for a year. But due to bad orgnization and turnover within the componey I quit...

Sorry to revive a very old thread ...

Did this come to pass?

I'm just looking at the trees in my backyard, and I have a very clear LOS to ~100. If I can really get everything DirecTV has to offer from a cluster of satellites at that location, I'll probably say goodbye to Dish, which has been incredibly spotty here (I'm just in a "weak spot" on the beams, according to them).

Is there a list somewhere of which channels are on which D* satellites?

Thanks.

Not yet, there is still the older HD programming on the 110 and 119 sats.
