I've had XM on DirecTV for a while and like the channel The Torch. I just got a car with XM built-in and could not find The Torch on the dial. Checked XM's website and couldn't find it there either.
This is not a case of a channel name change that I can tell. Is it possible that there are channels that XM broadcasts only on DirecTV and not via its normal service?

There are some channels that are exclusive to either online or Directv. The Torch is also available online but is NOT a part of the GENERAL lineup (i.e. in your car or a portable tuner). If I were you I'd call them up and complain. A couple years ago XM removed ch. 42 Liquid Metal and it was only available online. My buddy complained and they hooked him up with the channel. I don't know if they activated it for his radio only or what. But I do know that they got enough complaints where the channel was put back on the GENERAL channel line up. If no one complains it will most likely never return to the GENERAL line up.

They didn't hook your buddy up with anything. On 2/14/05 Liquid Metal was removed from XM via the satellites and only available via XM Radio Online only. The channel was added back on 4/17/06, due to people requesting it, people in general, not specifically your friend.
XM and Sirius are stretched for bandwidth, if a new channel is added, an existing one has to be removed, either that or lower the bandwidth on channels and making the sound quality worse. Last spring when the courts ruled in Clear Channels favor that Clear Channel was allowed to put commercials on their four XM music channels, XM retaliated by creating inhouse clones of the four Clear Channel stations. As a result The Torch, The Flow, Music Lab and Luna were removed from the satellites. There are other channels such as On The Rocks and Special X that are also on DirecTV and XM Radio Online but not available from XM themselves as bandwidth does not permit it.
XM is constantly tweaking the channel line up, usually 2 bigger changes happen every year, one in the spring one in the fall. XM Liquid Metal was the only channel to be brought back from the grave, Aguila, a Latin station returned but in name only.

Maybe I heard him wrong but I could have sworn I remember my buddy having that channel back before it was available to everyone. I'll have to ask him about that. But that is neither here nor there. The point I was trying to get across to Jediphish is that he needs to complain about it or it will have no chance of returning.

Nope, that is impossible. XM Liquid Metal returned to the line up on April 17 2006 at 12:02 EST for everyone.

Ok. Whatever. How would it be impossible though? It's NOT impossible.
