It's probably too soon. I doubt there's anything out there in a flat panel form factor that will achieve the video quality of a high end CRT RPTV unit. Looking at what's available, it seems contrast is the biggest hurdle left and that is quickly gaining ground.

What's out there in a 60-65" panel form factor that takes 1080p input and has a native resolution of 1920x1080?

The Panasonic TH-65PX600U is the only thing I see so far that looks close. It's contrast is OK, but not great at 5000:1(Is that native or the psuedo dynamic crap that companies are trying to trick us with?).

What else? Is there a 60" LCD out there yet? The sharp 65" AQUOS only has a contrast ratio of 1200:1, so that's out.

Nothing is available yet that meets your requirements. Nothing based on LCD or plasma coming in 2007 will match CRT black levels. However, every year they improve and get a little closer.

Pioneer claims to have significantly improved contrast for its 2007 plasmas coming in the second half of this year. Samsung also claims to have significantly improved the contrast on its upcoming 2007 LCDs through the use of LED backlighting with local dimming. There's no question both will be an improvement over what is available now, but only you can decide whether the contrast of those new models will be "good enough" for you.

The Panny 65" is the only thing out right now thats 1080p and that big. One thing to remember is, as the contrast is 5000:1, be sure you look at the panel itself to see what you like. Me personally, I think some of those with 1000:1 look as good or better than those with 10000:1...just personal preference I think. I'm looking at the 63" Philips 1080p plasma coming out this summer with a price tag of $5500, I think the contrast is a little low but I've always been happy with their products.
