Hello All!

I purchased a Philips 30PW9100D about 6 months ago. Overall, I am pretty happy with the TV. I was wondering, on HD CRTs why is their not an option to select/change display modes? (480p, 720p, 1080i)

My problem is....the picture displayed on my tv from my DVD player looks considerably worse than the HDTV channels that I receive. I have tried both component cables as well as hdmi. The DVD player upscales to 720p and 1080i, but no matter what I change it to it all looks the same. I can only assume that the DVD player must be a piece of poop (its a Toshiba SD-4990; I believe it was the most inexpensive model Toshiba offered that upscaled) since the HD channels look awesome.

Also, what is the native display resolution for the 30PW9100D since it cant be adjusted?

Thanks

Mike

The TV upscales everything to 1080i - DVD material is 480i (and is upconverted by either the player or by the TV) so of course it might not look as good as 1080i material.

All DVDs will look like that on your screen no matter how good of an upscaling dvd player you have. Get a Blu-Ray player. The PS3 is the cheapest one.

My LG LST-3510 combo digital tuner/DVD player does a great job with DVDs. No DVD compares to a live HD broadcast, like NFL football. A good DVD player, however, will do a good job of upconverting, at least in my experience. Many on this board use Oppo DVD players and have nothing but great things to say. Check it out.
