I just bought my Panasonic TH-42H9UK, which does not have an HDMI input, so I'm using component video cables from my receiver to my plasma. However, my Scientific Atlanta DVR cable box and my DVD player both have HDMI outputs.

Is it a good idea to use both types of video cables in my home theater setup? In my Panasonic SA-XR57 receive manual regarding "Connecting the receive to a cable box" it says to "Use cables that belong to the same type as the video cable you used for connecting the unit to your TV". Is that really going to cause issues?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I guess if you go HDMI STB->receiver and then component receiver->TV the PQ might not be as good as if you used HDMI all the way.

These days an HDMI input (or 2) is a must for any display/TV.

no it shouldn't be a problem.
hdmi is not a must, plenty of people out there without it, and alot that do have it and do not use it.
just calibrate your inputs and you should get a great pic.
