I have my 8300 HD (Cox Cable, Fairfax VA) running through an Onkyo 674 to my Sony TV. For some reason FOX HD and CBS HD do not come in. Every once in a while I get a picture for about 5 minutes then it disappears. All other HD channels work fine. I've messed with all the settings, etc, nothing seems to work. Anybody have similar issues or any ideas? I haven't tested running the STB straight to the TV... trying to avoid the logistical battle of getting behind my gear.
Thanks for any feedback!

Anybody have similar issues or any ideas?I have had some problems that are somewhat similar, with Cox cable in Phoenix, and an 8300HD with SARA software. But my TV is a Sony KDF-E42A10.

My problem is that certain channels go to black at times. If I check the diagnostic screen, when there's a picture the level will show as something like -9 dBmV, with a S/N of 28 dB, then when the image goes to back (and no audio), it will be something like -9 dBmV, S/N = 0 dB. Rebooting the box corrects the problem, at least temporarily. With my box, this affects only the channels on channel 103, which shows on the diagnostic screen as 669.000 MHz. After a reboot, that channel will show up again with better numbers, such as -9 dBmV and S/N=27 dB.

I suspect this behavior may be caused by a marginal signal level, but I don't know why it would affect just one channel that's not at either end of the spectrum, or why rebooting the box would have any effect. And of course what I'm seeing may not be related to your problem at all. You asked if anyone had seen anything similar, so that's my 2¢.

I'd suggest you check to see if your signal levels are OK, and whether those HD feeds are coming in on the same digital channel as is the case here.

This is a known issue with the faulty HDMI implementation on some Onkyo 674 receivers. The issue is discussed extensively in the A/V Receivers area of this forum.

I'm having problems with Fox HD out of Omaha. The last few weeks, House and 24 have not played back reliably on my computer ever since the last time 24 had a two-hour timeslot. I suspected they raised the broadcast flag, but last Monday I recorded with AVCVideoCap and (before running out of disk space prematurely) it reported in the EFI field "Copy Freely", yet I still could not get picture out of my transcoding applications. Mplayer and VLC would play it, but MPEG StreamClip 1.9 and 1.9.2 would not. I get audio but no picture, unless it's a locally inserted advertisement at SD aspect; then I get picture until it returns to the national feed.

I'm suspecting that Fox is doing something non-standard to their feed to trip up some codecs from working properly, but I don't know enough to inspect the transport stream for irregularities. I've been relying on MPEG StreamClip to transcode to anamorphic DV, have had no success getting VLC (on a Mac Pro) to transcode, and only getting TGA image sequences out of Mplayer which puts out too much data for me to handle (and QuickTime Player won't import an Image Stream at 59.97 fps anyway). ffmpeg is still a mystery to me.

I'd hate to have to use the analog hole to get this. I'll end up with interlaced anamorphic video instead of progressive, plus I'll have to resync it to the 5.1 sound I can extract after checking it for dropped frames. Which means I'll have to catch up with the watching it myself. All this is just as a courtesy for my brother who is without reception; I've already pre-ordered the Blu-Ray box set.

I have had AVCVideoCap show a capture as being "Copy Once" twice before. It was on a Lincoln ABC station showing football. The same game on the Omaha ABC station was "Copy Freely". Guess which one I watch.
