I emailed HDSportsguide to have all these events added for Live HD content, but it seems to have been ignored.

Shooting Stars comp is "block-riffic" on Comcast-Ft.Wayne...

As an added feature, classic NBA can't make the clock work right, endless scorer table discussions, and for you extra viewing enjoyment, Marv Albert makin' up the rules as they go along...

Did Bud Selig take over as commish of hoops too?

[Edit: some 10 min. of watching this after my inital post it is without a doubt the most bit-starved, block infested piece of broadcasting I've seen since I went HD a couple of years ago... Really, REALLY dreadful]

I think it's just that one on-court camera that is doing that. I am seeing the same thing via D*. When they go to another camera, it goes away.

Or are you just referring to the overall quality in general?

it seems to be more than just a single cam, plus it looks like the/one of the frame sync boxes are way the heck off, that or they need to clean the contacts on the switcher...

Good I wasn't the only one. Looks like it went away during Bryant's and Wade's performances.

It was just as bad on Comcast's Basic cable SD TNT in Prince Geore's County, MD.

I hate to pile it on, but I just saw a clip on SportsCenter of the battle of the titans, Dick Bavetta vs. Charles Barkley and the TNT crew were barely able to keep up with the action on those two speedsters... eeeeesh!

[Really makes you appreciate what an amazing job the Grammy folks did last week]

that has to be the worst produced sporting event i have seen. with multiple cameras failing, clocks failing and another travesty in the dunk contest, this allstar stuff is really not fun to watch.

dwight howard was robbed....the dunk contest was worthless when jordan gave howard an 8 for that dunk.

for those of you that missed, howard jumped out of the gym, PUT A STICKER on the backboard (well over 12' high) and then dunked the ball..meanwhile guys were doing the same double clutch windmill dunks that we've seen for 20 years and managed to get 9s and 10s from the judges.

and i thought it would be good this year, with some of the best dunkers ever judging the contest.

Whoa, what's with Wayne Newton's makeup job? Looks like a mortician did the job. I hope he doesn't lip sync for his paying customers at one of his shows.

Shots without motion look ok on D*, but anything with motion is blocking/artifacting. This little musical intro doesn't look good when anything moves or lights flash.

Can Directv just fix TNT or get rid of it!!!!

Nice lip-syncing job Wayne Newton! haha....he totally missed the end. awesome.

He instrument-synced too. WTF is the point of bringing out the instruments if he's just going to pretend to play them?

Very weak, almost unwatchable on D*.

seriously...the sax player wasn't even playing in to his mic. just a bunch of wasted money if you ask me.

doesn't look very good on time warner either.

They're still having camera issues, specifically the camera above one of the rims.

E* doesn't look much better. Lots of macroblocking on quick movements, especially on the West's Red uniforms.

Looks pretty good on WOW cable, Cleveland. Viewing on a 50" 1080p plasma.

I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10. It's much better PQ than the CBS NCAA coverage I've seen the past couple weekends.

Edit: Macroblocking on the halftime show takes my rating down a notch. Seems like there's macroblocking in odd places whereas other scenes look ok.

At least Toni Braxton is actually singing.

Christina Aguilera too.

Christina Aguilera too.

You sure about that? I thought Toni missed a note at the end there, and I'm not convinced Christina is for real. This is the same deal Christina did for Dick Clark's New Year's Eve, and that was a lip sync job.

Macroblocking all over the place on Christina. TNT HD via E*.

I'm pretty sure they both were lip synced. There were a few notes Christina didn't have the mike up to her mouth.

I'm usually pretty good at picking out lip-synced performances, but I'm no expert. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but it seemed like they were both live to me.

Wow, these replays of the dunks at the half look BAD. Macroblock pixelation city. The replays look way worse than the actual game.

The picture is not up to par with the Lakers/Cavs game I just watched the other night. Not as clean or sharp is what I notice. I guess it makes it worse that this game along with the other all-star games is just boring to me. I tried to watch it, but ended up watching Rome instead. Via comcast cablecard

It's doing it for everyone it's the strobe lights, they don't mix well with HD.

IIRC, Lakers/Cavs was 720p on ABC. 720p seems to be the better vehicle for basketball. I haven't been blown away by CBS or TNT's 1080i basketball so far this season. I'd like to see how HDNet (1080i) does with basketball.

i personally think that tnt usually has the best basketball broadcasts. And im watching on a 720p lcd.

The way she sings, she doesn't need the mike too close or the sound engineer's ears would start to bleed. Seemed live to me. Toni's set was badly produced (audio levels seemed way too low), but who cares. She's so damn hot!

EDIT: favorite shot so far: Wayne sitting next to Arnold. Wonder what they have to say to each other? :D

I continue to be amazed at the amount of disappointment over this broadcast. I'm watching on a 1080p Samsung DLP over FIOS thru HDMI and the quality is excellent. I would say even better than the average TNT game. During the first part of the halftime show with the aztec looking characters dancing around in the dimly lit court, I expected macroblocking galore but there was none to be seen. The only macroblocking I have seen is when there are closeups of the players moving or dunking and even then it's very brief. I'm giving kudos to TNT tonight for this broadcast, but I guess I'm one of the few.

what do you guys mean when you refer to blocking? is it flickering on the screen? I just bought a 52" xbr3 and got paranoid after watching the dunk contest and the all star game on TNT HD with DTV. I kept seeing pixelation, flickering, and a greyish haze. I hope its not my tv. I have the tv set to petmic's settings. discovery and hd net look amazing still.

Macroblocking is when you start seeing 16x16 pixel square patterns on the screen. It's the way MPEG2 encodes (compresses) a frame of video. Nothing wrong with your TV. DirecTV usually makes it worse because they recompress the signal for delivery over the satellite.
