I'm surprised I haven't seen this here or on the Plasma forum:

So does anyone know anything about this display, and if it's as good as all that? I didn't see any mention of it at CES. Also, what is involved with THX flat panel display certification? What are the requirements?

Looks really nice and impressive based on the specs. Of course THX certification doesn't mean much, especially now, since computer speakers are receiving validation. The manual does show a lot of features and nice additions to a normal plasma. While the outboard connection box might not be for everyone, it would look pretty sharp without a bunch of wires hanging down.

As with all THX requirements, the exact specifications are not available to the general public - a manufacturer has to pay a boat-load 'o cash to have access to them. I suggest taking at look at the THX website and seeing what they say about display certification.

One thing that has been a big thing in the recent past has been user interface and minimum usability requirements. Also, in general, the specs usually require that it do things "right". Not necessarily a subjective quality requirement, but something like: "a fixed-pixel display processor must do de-interlacing properly".

There's probably not much talk about this display because of the price.

$20,000 (http://swik.net/User:anushshetty/engadget/Vidikron+intros+65-inch+VP-6500VHD+1080p+plasma/xvr1)

The specs don't even mention 24p/30p inputs or the refresh rate.

On the other hand, since it's THX certified, it must refresh at 120 Hz. THX certainly would not allow their seal on a panel that displays film based sources at only 72Hz much less 60.
