Hi,
I noticed that HBOHD is showing Star Wars IV (1977) and V (1980). Great to DVR especially since it may be a while before a high-def version of these films comes out to BR/HDDVD.
Does anyone know if those versions are actually remastered from the originals in hi-def, or are they just the DVD versions up converted?
Thanks
George

I don't know, however A New Hope looks damn good. Saw it on Tuesday. Very nice.

Really - how did you come to that conclusion?
they are upconverted
Oh boy.
I am curious as well. There is a link out on Wikipedia:
"On November 11, 2006 Cinemax aired all six films in rotation in both standard & High Definition. (Cinemax had never aired the original Star Wars (Episode IV) prior to this date, and at the explicit request of Lucasfilm, the high definition broadcasts were in the original scope aspect ratio.) The six films will also be repeated on HBO in standard & High Definition. The versions of Episodes IV, V, and VI that are airing are the 2004 DVD Special Editions, as they are the current canonical versions."
I only have HBOHD (Dish does not have Cinemax HD), but would love to know if the DVR copy is high-def and not just unconverted. IHMO, it does look better than my DVD copy which is being upconverted to the projection screen by my Oppo.

They are not Upconverts, they are presented in High Definition. Though the amount of compression used varies with each service provider, the Star Wars films on HBO and Cinemax easily look much better than the DVD's.

Anything on HBO HD that is 16:9 is HD.

Completely wrong. Do not post unless you know what you are posting about.
