Is it just in Tucson, AZ or is CBS having issues nationally with the HD broadcast of B-Ball this morning and now the Nissan Open in LA. No sound, occassionally SD, currently frozen solid in SD. What up?

View Full Version : PGA Tour - Nissan Open in HD on CBS. Fine in Memphis. vurbano 02-17-07, 05:05 PM 2 golf tournaments on in HD at once on a saturday afternoon. My how times are changing. ckramer 02-17-07, 05:31 PM 2 golf tournaments on in HD at once on a saturday afternoon. My how times are changing. But, not all of NBC's cameras are HD..... fredfa 02-17-07, 05:35 PM But NBC's effort is certainly better than none at all. A golf tournament is a major, major HD undertaking. Its not like a baseball, football, hockey or basketball game where the setups are (comparatively) pretty easy. Especially when its tournament is pitted against the Nissan (LA) Open, usually one of the better non Majors in the ratings. ckramer 02-17-07, 05:38 PM I agree, it definitely is a step in the right direction. vurbano 02-17-07, 06:41 PM But NBC's effort is certainly better than none at all. Especially when its tournament is pitted against the Nissan (LA) Open, usually one of the better non Majors in the ratings. It is an incredible effort. And considering a couple of years ago covering any golf tournament was rare this is quite an achievement in the HD timeline considering how much equipment is required. John Mason 02-18-07, 09:30 AM Very nice 1080i from Nissan Open here via NYC's TWC, and was surprised to briefly see a crisp true-1080i blimp shot while briefly jumping to NBC during the L.A. Nissan match. Was DVRing a true-1080i opera on PBS-HD at the same time. Lots of goodies. A nice HD addition would have been the LPGA tour from Hawaii at 6:30 pm ET on The Golf Channel, which Creamer, in her pinkest garb, won by one point; (elusively, IMO, since I can't recall any announcements it was the final round on a Saturday). -- John MEMPHISinHD 02-18-07, 11:55 AM Local issue. Fine in Memphis. That's because it was on Ch5, not Ch3 Wiggo. Think McFly, think! golferadam 02-18-07, 04:34 PM Setup: WTAJ-DT with no subchannels OTA via Winegard SS3000 connected to Sony 30XS955 tube HDTV Quality: 10/10 Comments: I think I said the golf was about 9.5 before but I have to set a standard for HD and this is it. For me, this has everything you can possibly ask for. Ultrasharp pictures, wide and closeup. Graphics look great and not obtrusive. Colors are deep and rich. Virtually no macroblocking, even when the logos are flying across the screen. I love CBS and my local affiliate. steverobertson 02-18-07, 04:54 PM I think it looks great. I think golf is one sport that really makes HD look great. Ken H 02-18-07, 06:53 PM Anyone else just lose HD? Viewing WWJ-DT CBS Detroit, via Comcast. Ken H 02-18-07, 06:56 PM Nevermind, WTOL-DT in Toledo OTA is HD, so WWJ must be having a problem. Ramen 02-18-07, 06:56 PM Looks like they turned off the HD switch in Ft. Myers OTA. :( During a playoff, even! JRChisolm 02-18-07, 06:57 PM It's been out in Columbus since around 5:30. Ramen 02-18-07, 07:02 PM Looks like they turned off the HD switch in Ft. Myers OTA. :( During a playoff, even! HD's is now back. :) Ken H 02-18-07, 07:09 PM Looks like the local stations weren't ready for extended play. kc0bsn 02-18-07, 07:51 PM CBS didn't even follow their procedures. If it went to a playoff coverage would go until 6.55 and then dump over to the Golf Channel. If stations had automated switch times, that is probably when they dumped out of HD. gohd 02-18-07, 11:33 PM I think I said the golf was about 9.5 before but I have to set a standard for HD and this is it. I particularly liked the low-to-the-ground shots from behind the players on some of the tee boxes. You could actually see the left/right ball flights on 18 and other holes. Very cool. Can't wait for Augusta. John Mason 02-19-07, 07:47 AM Since it seems mandatory for basketball games preceding CBS golf to run overtime, wish they'd start basketball games 30 minutes earlier. Easy to accept all true-1080i coverage as normal (kudos to CBS), and suspect watching true-1080i/upconverted-480i mixes (HD/SD) will be a jolt; actually, NBC's senior match running parallel with the Nissan for a while, then switching to The Golf Channel (only SD here), used this SD/HD mix. -- John RemyM 02-19-07, 08:36 AM Another wonderful HD presentation by CBS. It really sold HDTV to a few people at my house this weekend. On Saturday had friends and family over and they are ready to go buy HDTV's now. Had another friend over on Sunday and he already had an HDTV but never got a HD cable box, he's going today to exchange his SD box for a HD one. Glad CBS stayed with the entire playoff instead of dumping it to the Golf Channel. I was waiting to see which one of those two would choke first since they both have a history of it. Now we have to deal with 6 weeks of hybrid HD golf from NBC until CBS resumes coverage with The Masters. Ponter 02-19-07, 01:07 PM Did anyone experience pixilation during this event? I did several times and switched backa nd forth to the Daytona 500 which did not have the problemnor did any other viewing this rest of the day. kbp 02-19-07, 02:32 PM I particularly liked the low-to-the-ground shots from behind the players on some of the tee boxes. I did, but chalked it up to my OTA reception, but maybe it wasn't. Not too bad though. Ponter 02-19-07, 04:33 PM I should have more specific, it was from Comcast in the Detroit area. Just often enough to be annoying. kc0bsn 02-20-07, 12:10 AM They were having microwave problems at the site on and off during the final round. It was more apparent on some of the roving cameras, but either way it was visible both to digital & analog viewers. |
