just noticed this is a Universal property in Germany. What are the chances there will be a release there?

Well looks like I would be buying it then. I would even pay like $50 for this movie as long as you can select English with no subtitles!

guys, no offense, but you're celebrating the ability to buy one movie that you really really want for $50, while being proud of it enough to MOCK bd?

i'm sorry but kojima is right. i mean, i hate sony's greed more than anything, but if you're mad at them for charging you lots of money yet willing to pay sh*tloads of money to protest it, there's something very wrong there.

Well, again, it will be a better transfer (possibly) with VC1 and, again, possibly ALL extras.

Essentially, you'll be paying for it to be done RIGHT.

Same here, this and possibly Ususal Suspects are the 2 titles I'd import and pay a bit extra for without blinking an eye...hope this is true.

You are right but it is nice to have options for that one or two BD movie that you just have to have. The world is getting pretty small and with BD, HD DVD the pal issue is gone. The time has come for no region restrictions. My family is originally form Spain and would love to watch some of there domestic movies. Imagine the impact of Bollywood movies region free.

I would pay $50 for a BHD import double dip if it had lossless audio. If it is DTS-MA, I would have to wait until players were able to decode it. Maybe by that time it will be cheaper too.

And for the record, if it's anything like Running Scared - German Import, it would be more like $35.

Im buying it b/c it would be only an extra $30 compared to its blu-ray counterpart and I won't have to purchase a blu-ray player to enjoy it

Nothing wrong woith paying 50 bucks for it considering the price of a BD player is $499 (ps3) or $799 for a standalone. Plus 30 for the movie unless you get it free.

So importing a movie from time to time is ok as long as the total cost of discs is under the cost of the BD only version here...

Where did you get the version that included a disc and a 1/2's worth of extras?

When they use VC1 and include all the extras, it makes a big difference. There may be people interested in certain titles if they were done correctly.

You BD boys are running rampant aren't you.

I can see someone who absolutely loves extras knocking the BD version of Black Hawk Down.

For me, and many other A/V enthusiasts I'm sure, the BD version was done right. The audio/video quality is pretty much impeccable, and the included extras are more than enough for me.

And you know that the HD DVD release (which not only hasn't been announced but in all probability will never be released) has these extras how, exactly?

Universal hasn't released any movies (besides Kong) without all the extras from the SD DVD version.

Can $ony say the same?

Even without an HD DVD release, doesn't mean that Sony did it right the first time. They should have included the other extras.

Sony hasn't released any movies without master quality audio. Can Univer$$$al say the same? I love extras, but I'd take lossless/uncompressed over 1.5mbps any day. No one is perfect here. Each have their own flaws.

Somewhat off-topic: Another BD USA exclusive that may be released in Europe (Spain in this case) is Silent Hill. I just watched the regular DVD version and it's distributed by Paramount here.

Although the uncompressed audio is great, I'd clearly rather have extras.

Can't you guys stay out of these threads? jeeez....
Does EVERYTHING have to turn into a debate?

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to start a DEBATE, per se, I just wanted to bring up something that bothered me a little. Maybe it's guilt over having bought into BD instead of dealing with it by doing what some of you are doing with Euro discs...but is that something I should really feel guilty for?

(I'm not a Sony fanboy, by the way. I'd just rather buy new movies than play the ones from last summer over and over again...)

Hasn't there been a history of German releases of American movies being editted for content? What are the odds this movie will be censored?

This is kind of funny since we DO love the movies we are willing to import them on the format we are supporting, yet people who support BluRay and are really adding nothing constructive to the conversation are coming in and making insults. So waht if people want to import titles that are not available to them in the US if they wan to do it so be it. In the end it is cheaper for them to import a few titles then it is to buy a BLuRay player AND the title in question. For those saying people are paying 50$ a title are obviously looking in the wrong place as the titles for import are NOT that expensive, some of the Japanese releases are $4x.xx BUT there are not that many of them and the majority are form Europe where it is cheaper for the discs to import.

People have been importing for years and years and now only since we "could" buy a 500$ player and then but a $25-$35 movie people are coming in here and making insults. If you don't agree then fine but there is no need to insult someone for making a choice (on either sie of the fence).

I love moveis and have an HD DVD player. So if a movie that I like is not available to me in the format I have I am going to import it BECAUSE I love the movie not the hardware that is attached to it. If I had an extra 500+ to spend then yes I might go neutral, but until that point I am going to import titles that are not available to me in the US so that I can enjoy the movie.

Do you seriously want to sit here and argue about which company is more money-hungry between the two? I don't recall Universal trying to strong-arm every single market they entire by creating and forcing a proprietary format on consumers.
