Ok I know you guys all know this but I need a little help. I am stuck at a level and just cannot seem to get past it. So off to the cheat section on line I went. Seems I can use the ~ key to bring the consol down then type in another map/leval etc and move on to the next part of the game and problem solved. Or so I thought, just pushing the ~ key does nothing. How do I bring the consol down with this key to enable me to type in something?

I assume this is Half-Life/HL2/Blue Shift/ect., in which case you must enable the "developer console" in the options menu. Look for the keyboard tab, and click on the "advanced" button at the bottom. From there, you should be able to enable the console.

If the game is not HL or one of its sequels/derivatives, ignore everything I've said.

a lot of times there are entries in the program shortcut you need to add to enable the ~ key as well.

Yep, it depends on what game you talking about.
