View Full Version : Sin City? Primus67 02-18-07, 04:16 PM sin city 2 is supposedly going to be on both formats. what's the deal with sc1? and do you think a b&w movie is worth it in hd? Julian Lalor 02-18-07, 04:21 PM Sin City is going to be on Blu-Ray. There are packaging shots in the Blu-Ray forum. IeraseU 02-18-07, 04:22 PM sin city 2 is supposedly going to be on both formats. what's the deal with sc1? and do you think a b&w movie is worth it in hd? Of course it would be worthwhile to do it in HD. What about B&W leads you to believe that it would benefit less from being hidef then a color film? SilverIce 02-18-07, 04:39 PM I'm very sure than Sin City will look fantastic on a high-def disk.. it was shot digitally.. and the black and white with splashes of color will look wonderful in HD.. kami 02-18-07, 04:56 PM Of course it would be worthwhile to do it in HD. What about B&W leads you to believe that it would benefit less from being hidef then a color film? Since everyone knows that all B&W films are downressed to 480p in the cutting room of course there's no benefit to having it in HD. Geez, get your facts straight man! ;) nmcnair 02-18-07, 05:20 PM actually making it even more confusing.... Sin City 2 will only be on HDDVD assuming the Weinstiens dont go neutral.. and Sin City 1 will only be on Blu Ray because its was a Mirimax release. I would also expect both of these to look stunning on HDDVD and Blu Ray. I remember being blown away in theaters by this, and I would assume the HD versions would look very similar to that. jrusnak 02-18-07, 05:22 PM I've seen SIN CITY in HD twice (have it archived on the DVR) and it is one of the best HD presentations I've seen (up there with KONG, I feel.) It is currently available from STARZ ON-DEMAND until March 15th. After that, it will still appear sporadically on the STARZ HD channel. Dave Mack 02-18-07, 05:50 PM Carla in HD...! :) LAGOSIAN 02-18-07, 06:08 PM sin city 2 is supposedly going to be on both formats. what's the deal with sc1? and do you think a b&w movie is worth it in hd? SC1 is going to be available in Europe in HD DVD. SC2 is only available in HD DVD since Weinstein is HD DVD EXCLUSIVE. :) The Main Event 02-18-07, 06:14 PM SC1 is going to be available in Europe in HD DVD. SC2 is only available in HD DVD since Weinstein is HD DVD EXCLUSIVE. :) Sin City HD DVD in Europe? Who's the distributor? I thought it was Buena Vista worldwide? joewmaki 02-18-07, 07:38 PM I'm sorry, but the upconverted SD version looks so good on the HD-A1, it'll be hard to justify puchasing the HD version. thewretched22 02-18-07, 07:49 PM Sin City 2 will be HD DVD exclusive providing the Weinsteins don't go neutral. I just watched Sin City on my HD- A1 this morning and it looked spectacular .. can't wait for it on BD. NoThru22 02-18-07, 07:57 PM I'm sorry, but the upconverted SD version looks so good on the HD-A1, it'll be hard to justify puchasing the HD version. Then why own an HD-DVD player? rboster 02-18-07, 08:48 PM OP- several threads on this title that will come up using the search engine for BD software. And, there was a huge thread on BW titles and HD resolution that was in this forum recently. Again a search should bring it up. LAGOSIAN 02-19-07, 12:03 AM OP- several threads on this title that will come up using the search engine for BD software. And, there was a huge thread on BW titles and HD resolution that was in this forum recently. Again a search should bring it up. Honestly, you should give a lecture on how to use the search engine. I have to admit I really don't know how, and you obviously are a master at it. How about a thread on how to properly use the search engine? LAGOSIAN 02-19-07, 12:06 AM Then why own an HD-DVD player? Duh! As he said, it upconverts SD movies into HD quality so well, he doesn't see the reason to buy it in HD. ;) And I second that. I do not see how the HD version could possibly look better than it does upconverted in my A1. Julian Lalor 02-19-07, 12:59 AM Duh! I do not see how the HD version could possibly look better than it does upconverted in my A1. Of couse it could. It's still only 480p, regardless of how good it looks. I would think a true 1080p transfer would beat the SD DVD and quite easily. rboster 02-19-07, 08:39 AM Honestly, you should give a lecture on how to use the search engine. I have to admit I really don't know how, and you obviously are a master at it. How about a thread on how to properly use the search engine? Part of the mastery is the simple fact I spend too much time on this forum....thereby I'll remember there are threads on certain topics. ;) The best way to search is advance search. Where you type in the search word is a drop down box that lets you choose title search only....do this for best results. I always try to limit search words to one or two. In the case of "Black Dahlia". Choose "Dahlia" since the word "black" will come up with other topics. For topics that may have origins of a year or older, make sure to search the archives too. Here are the threads I was referring to: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=806046&highlight=Sin Here's an older thread on the topic: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=764705&highlight=Sin There were others too that came up...but these should answer the topic. Here's the thread on B&W films in HD. It's entitled "Black and White movies why bother?" : http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=800852&highlight=casablanca Dr Kain 02-19-07, 10:12 AM Um... As I recall, the Weinstein's already announced they are neutral and will be releasing their movies on BR later this year. Grubert 02-19-07, 10:22 AM sin city 2 is supposedly going to be on both formats. Sin City 2 isn't even in production. Last I heard it might get pushed back to 2008. swanlee 02-19-07, 10:33 AM " Um... As I recall, the Weinstein's already announced they are neutral and will be releasing their movies on BR later this year." Link? I have not seen anything of that nature announced from them. Primus67 02-19-07, 10:39 AM i like the clarity and richness of color. b&w ain't gonna do much for me in hd. i think my copy of sc1 upconverted is quite satisfactory. rhetorik007 02-19-07, 11:44 AM Honestly, you should give a lecture on how to use the search engine. But how will I find it? wnorris 02-19-07, 12:19 PM Um... As I recall, the Weinstein's already announced they are neutral and will be releasing their movies on BR later this year. Sorry, you are misinformed. Probably what you are thinking of is that Disney hired Genius Products (a Weinstein owned company) to distribute a series of ESPN titles. Disney produces these titles for Blu-ray. The Weinstein owned company is just being paid to distribute them. Weinstein will not be releasing their own content to Blu-ray, just Disney's. AndyM 02-19-07, 12:45 PM i like the clarity and richness of color. b&w ain't gonna do much for me in hd. i think my copy of sc1 upconverted is quite satisfactory. think again. sin city in HD looks MUCH better. trust me. The HD version has more dimensionality, blacks are deeper...and now the DVD just looks flat to me. So much so that I've already parted with it via Ebay. Thanks for the info. Regardless, I doubt the Weinsteins will not put their movies on BR for too long. Always a good idea to make up your mind, B4 you get all the facts! Just posted that for a laugh. :) Joe, Has it been "hard to justify puchasing the HD version" of any other title for you? Only the Blu-Ray ones, I suspect. I imagine if Sin City was being released on HD DVD we'd be having an entirely different discussion. |
