Of course it would be worthwhile to do it in HD. What about B&W leads you to believe that it would benefit less from being hidef then a color film?

I'm very sure than Sin City will look fantastic on a high-def disk.. it was shot digitally.. and the black and white with splashes of color will look wonderful in HD..

Since everyone knows that all B&W films are downressed to 480p in the cutting room of course there's no benefit to having it in HD.

Sin City 2 will only be on HDDVD assuming the Weinstiens dont go neutral.. and Sin City 1 will only be on Blu Ray because its was a Mirimax release. I would also expect both of these to look stunning on HDDVD and Blu Ray. I remember being blown away in theaters by this, and I would assume the HD versions would look very similar to that.

I've seen SIN CITY in HD twice (have it archived on the DVR) and it is one of the best HD presentations I've seen (up there with KONG, I feel.) It is currently available from STARZ ON-DEMAND until March 15th. After that, it will still appear sporadically on the STARZ HD channel.

SC1 is going to be available in Europe in HD DVD.
SC2 is only available in HD DVD since Weinstein is HD DVD EXCLUSIVE. :)

I'm sorry, but the upconverted SD version looks so good on the HD-A1, it'll be hard to justify puchasing the HD version.

Sin City 2 will be HD DVD exclusive providing the Weinsteins don't go neutral. I just watched Sin City on my HD- A1 this morning and it looked spectacular .. can't wait for it on BD.

And I second that. I do not see how the HD version could possibly look better than it does upconverted in my A1.

Of couse it could. It's still only 480p, regardless of how good it looks. I would think a true 1080p transfer would beat the SD DVD and quite easily.

Part of the mastery is the simple fact I spend too much time on this forum....thereby I'll remember there are threads on certain topics. ;)

The best way to search is advance search. Where you type in the search word is a drop down box that lets you choose title search only....do this for best results. I always try to limit search words to one or two. In the case of "Black Dahlia". Choose "Dahlia" since the word "black" will come up with other topics. For topics that may have origins of a year or older, make sure to search the archives too.

Probably what you are thinking of is that Disney hired Genius Products (a Weinstein owned company) to distribute a series of ESPN titles.

Disney produces these titles for Blu-ray. The Weinstein owned company is just being paid to distribute them.

Weinstein will not be releasing their own content to Blu-ray, just Disney's.

Although I haven't seen SC upconverted, I always thought the SD edition looked pretty good...until I saw it in HD. The HD version has more dimensionality, blacks are deeper...and now the DVD just looks flat to me. So much so that I've already parted with it via Ebay.

Only the Blu-Ray ones, I suspect. I imagine if Sin City was being released on HD DVD we'd be having an entirely different discussion.
