I received my DCT 6416 III the other evening. The cable guy came and set it up. I turned on my TV the next night and nothing works. When I push guide on the remote, it changes the TV to Video 1. I then have to use the buttons on the actual TV to get it back to video 5 which is where the programs are tuned to. I can't record or anything. I can use channel up and channel down. I can use vol. up and down. I have tried resetting the remote to the code. Didn't work. I'm thinking calling the cable guy in again would only result in the same outcome as the first time. They did not leave me, nor can I find a 'hook up' manual so I can check for correct hook up. Anyone know how to do this? I have a Sony HDTV. Thanks!

Besides the very useful wikibooks site for the Motorola DVRs, how is the DVR connected to the TV? Component or HDMI? The remote you are referring to is the one provided by Comcast? If so, there may be a top row of white buttons to select the device the remote is to control. Press the CBL or equivalent button. Comcast should have left you a manual for the DVR and remote although the wikibook manual beats the heck out of the fluff piece manual they hand out.

I got a new 6416 box about 2.5 weeks ago. All was great for about 10 days..and now the fun begins anew. While watching a show that was still recording, it froze and failed to record the end of the show. Night before last it totally locked up although it continued to show live tv. Neither the remote, or the buttons on the unit would do a thing. I had to unplug it, and let it reboot. Now it has the aggravating condition where video sort of stutters, like it is dropping a frame or two of video, so when anything moves it has brief uneven jerks in the video. I had that problem with THREE 6412 boxes on another tv last fall ,and finally gave up! My old DVI type 6412 box that became totally unusable a few weeks ago never had the herky jerky video problem. Comcast, and their Motorola boxes are a joke!

i seem to have this problem on my hd channels very often. its very aggravating. cant record anything without having this problem. i think that it could be the fact that i have 3 HD boxes, HSI and 2 reg cable hookups. i need to check and see if the one tv that has the booster connected with the HD box has this problem. i even tried the 15 sec delay trick that was suggested, and it doesnt work. what you do is start watching a program and then pause it for 15 secs then start watching, allowing the stream to "catch up" so it doesn't stutter. doesn't work.

They claim I have a great signal.....I don't know what is going on. My old 6412 box never once did the stuttering thing. Last fall I had 3 boxes for another tv that all stuttered so I gave up having DVR on that tv. Now the new 6416 is stuttering at times after working fine the first 10 days...ugh.
