Hi, I have been viewing this forum for a few years and think that it is brilliant. Finally I am in need of some help. I have a situation where I am looking for advice. I have in the past had two silver sensor antennas next to my TV. with perfect picture quality. I decided for aesthetic reasons to move the antennas to my attic. I have them installed and they are working magnificently, but crazy things are happening to my AV equipment and lights. My F38310 RCA TV starts to flicker with a greyish screen. It doesnt turn off, just gets interference. And the touch sensitive lights on my oak enetertainment center turn on and off by themselves. These lights need to have someone touch a spot on the entertainment center to turn on. they need to be grounded. I have a feeling that I need to ground the silver sensors in the attic, but was wondering if it could be because of the route I fished the coax. The coax goes over the big aluminum heating vents in the basement. Could that be causing the interference. It happens just before my heating system goes on. If anyone has any thoughts I would really appreciate it.

Mike

Based on what you've said, I would try a test by disconnecting the antenna cable and see if the TV & lights act normal. That would confirm the cable routing issue. Use another source on the TV, like DVD.

Does the furnace have spark ignition?? That fits the timing and the symptoms. I agree with Ken H's test, that will confirm it.

Hi Mike, Maybe you got the Ghost mad  because you placed the Silver Sensor in the attic where he/she sleeps and he/she is just messing with your TV  :D :D .

But that is odd, I would do what Ken H. suggest. Longrider brought a good suggestion. Do you have furance in the attic ? or somekind of HACV control as zone control in the attic? That could cause picture problem, but I don't think  it would cause light problem.

Thank you for the replies so far. I do have a Heating system in the attic as well as one in the basement. I am not sure how they are ignited, but they are about 8 months old. The SS's are about 10 ft away from the attic heating system. They point directly to the Local stations and the Heating system is behind them. The picture is great 88% on local Dig channels. They are connected together by a splitter and then the coax goes down a tube that goes from the attic to the basement. From there the coax is secured to the basement studd ceilling. At one point it lays on the heating vent system that spans the basement ceiling. I did disconnect the antenna coax from the TV last night, but the lights still came on and off three times. From what I am understanding I think you guys are on the right track. The heating system is sending a chargeof some sort down the coax that is causing some anomilie. I will try and reorient the antennas and move them further away. otherwise I guess I will need to live with the antennas on the entertainment ctr.
thank you Ken H, Longrider and WillieAntenna

With your new heating system I am sure it a spark ignited by a electric charge instead of old way of using ploit light.

Got couple questions.

1. Are you using for Coax ? RG-59 or RG-6. If you have RG-59 get rid of it and use RG-6 or even better RG-6 Quad. You would be surprise it like day and night differences

2. Can you tell us what the down the tube is? As in Heating duct, air return duct or conduit tube if it the conduit is there any othere wires in that conduit?

Pretty sure(from memory) it's RG6 Coax and it's a conduit tube with no other wires in the conduit tube. 100ft of Coax from attic to wall outlet.

Just in case someone reads this in the future. I called the company that makes the lighting switch. They told me that some TV's throw off the switch that does the dimming and they need to replace the dimmer switch on the entertainment center unit. It had nothing to do with the new antenna. faulty lighting equipment was the problem.

I liked the ghost explanation better.
