Couldn't find a thread on this...

Just ordered this item from Amazon - Hi Def Digest was showing a pre-order price of $89.99 with a list price of $99.98. When I went to check it out, it was listed for $69.95 (30% off).

Yes, a blind buy for me, but I've been looking for some good non-fiction demo material, and this could do the trick!

I really want this but it would be a complete blind buy. I usually don't drop $70 on a blind buy. But this sure does look good....

I might look into this after I read a review.

It's been this price for a while. I ordered it for this price at the beginning of the month.

likewise... the series is incredible!!!!!! Hopefully the 1080p transfer will look nicer than the 720p broadcasts that I have seen.

Regardless of pq, the series is just amazing, Sir David is by far one of the best!

(and for 69.99 preorder? now I just need to stop thinking about it so it will eventually get here)

I saw the preview for this series on Discovery HD and have been looking forward to it, but not sure when it starts...keep checking my listings.

Anyways, the preview was amazing and I'll probably just buy the HD DVDs so I don't have to worry about catching it each week on Discovery.

It's going to be awesome. I saw a little bit of it on Discovery HD theater (with the narration done by Sigourney Weaver instead of David Attenborough) and it looked great. On HD DVD, it should be sublime. Killer HD nature photography is where it's at, as far as I'm concerned.

One feature that I would really like is a "no narration" audio track available. I haven't really researched the featues of this set, so I don't know. I just think it would be cool for all those repeat viewings that I know I will give this.

Check out discovery's series on the Katama(sp?) Bear. Apparently the whole series is without narration, not just the one on the bears. Rather beautiful and different HD experience.

hi guys, im from the uk and this has recently been shown on skyhd. This will be nothing short of incredible - a tier 0, 10/10 'demo material' hd-dvd series.

Anyone sitting on the fence go for it -this is what hd-dvd is all about. Can't wait to add it to my collection.

They changed the price I think 2 weeks ago on this, been this way for a bit now. Looks like this is the new "price point" for the series. I pre-ordered this when I had my Amazon Prime trial to get the free shipping :) hopefully it will be great as I haven't been able to see anything on it yet :)

Why didn't they put these SD features on the HD version? The SD version is 5 discs, the HD is 4 discs. Seems like it should have been a no brainer.

DVD Features:
Other:110 minutes of behind the scenes footage - one 10-minute behind the scenes program for each episode (SD release only)
Documentary:Planet Earth - The Future: This 3-part, 2 1/2 hour series looks at what the future may hold for endangered animals, habitats and -- ultimately -- ourselves. Following the environmental issues raised by Planet Earth, it asks why so many species are threatened and how they can be protected in future. (SD release only)

I saw a discovery channel special on this series about a month ago. It was an hour long and previewed every episode..... it was the most amazing footage I have ever seen. My girlfriend and I were left speechless for a few scenes. They used a super slow-mo camera (like the ones they used in the super bowl) to film a massive great-white shark getting his complete body out of the water to jump and bite down on a seal..............WOW. hands down, by far best HD footgae I have ever seen. It looked spectacular on dishnetwork, so i can only imagine how much better it will be on HDDVD. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to anybody who has the slightest interest in nature or has ever enjoyed a nature program on discovery HD.

i just pre-ordered Planet Earth. Should be a nice bit of eye-candy sometime in late April when it get released and delivered!

I love watching nature stuff in HD on TV. It reminds me of why I need to get off the couch and go for a hike every now and then. Then you can see nature in 360 deg HD. :p

You and me both shinksma. My wife and I could watch this stuff all day. I have one question though, who is doing the narration Ms. Weaver or the guy? I hope it's the guy as I find that hollywood folks distract with their attempts at humor and so on. I don't want their darn humor I just want a well narrated movie. I just pre-ordered also.

(SD release only)I am going to pick up the BD set, but I agree they should have thrown this in considering we're paying more money. I mean would if they couldn't have managed it in HD/BD what would it hurt to throw the extra DVD in there?

Does anyone know who's in charge of distributing this set in the US? Maybe they could send out the documentary DVD as an extra as I'd still be interested in getting it.

DaveFi, I just pre-ordered this on Blu-Ray. Let me know if you find anything out. I tioo would be interested in the other DVD that seems to be missing even if it is only in SD..

Why the BD set over the HD DVD? Is there a difference between the two? I ordered the HD DVD version.

Why the BD set over the HD DVD? Is there a difference between the two? I ordered the HD DVD version. From what I can tell they are exactly the same. I have a PS3, that's why, but this was the only thread I could find discussing the documentary that apparently isn't included with the more expensive HD versions.

I will see if I can get in touch with the US distributor and find out what's up.
