I noticed that all the Panasonic DVD Recorders technica; details say, "Records onto DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, and DVD-RAM; plays back dual-layer DVD-R/+R and CD-R/RW". They do NOT say "Records into dual-layer".
Yet I just read in the recent review here of the EH75VS, and the 15/25 models, that they will record onto DL but must do each layer as a "separate recoring". Huh? No seamless changeover? At any rate, if they do record to DL, why would the ads not trumpet that as a feature?
Anyway I would like to know which others also record onto DL, since apparently the ads on the Internet hide that feature for some odd reason.

Same thing with the Panny 35. It does double layer, but the recording has to be re-started.
I've never actually done it myself. The DL disks are so expensive that I don't see the point.
The Pioneer DVR-640H-S will record to Dual Layered DVD's and it does it seamlessly. I have heard that with some units you have to finalize each layer independently, but not with the Pioneer 640.
I really can't speak for any other models.
I've made more than 10 +R DL recordings on my Pio 640, and all have worked well. There is an instant of hesitation at layer change that is barely noticeable. You can record from the HDD to a DL disc at highspeed. If you record in realtime, it creates a chapter, or perhaps a new title, at layer change, I don't recall exactly. But, the thumbnail frame you select must be from the first layer, or the last frame of the first layer will become your thumbnail. The only other restriction with the DL discs, is that you cannot do a "Disc backup" from a DL disc, only from SL discs. So, make as many copies of any long programs as you want from the HDD before you erase it, because you can't dupe them in Disc Backup.

From my reading of the Panasonic EH-55 and EH-75 user manuals, both of these recorders can record seamlessly onto both layers of -R DL and +R DL discs. The only requirement is that the program must be recorded to the HDD first, and then copied to the disc. This probably explains why this cannot be done on non-HDD Panasonic recorders.
This is unlike the Pioneer 640H, which can record directly to DL discs.

My Sony RDR-GX330 will do seamless recordings onto a DL disc.

the pioneer 533 and 633 will also but they are last years models. they only do +R DL. the 640 does both -R/+R DL one is called dual layer and one called double layer i think.
