If this is already being discussed, just let me know but I looked through all the newest threads and did not see this news.

I think this is a big mistake if it is really where HD DVD is heading.

That is just bizzare. So they are going to throw a 720P red laser format at us that is read in HDDVD machines?? But why? Joe6 still isn't going to bite and neither is anyone else. If they sold them for $7.99 perhaps there would be a market...but geez....add this to the already confusing mix.

Didn't think to look there....thought of it more as software, but obviously it really applies to both. Over on that thread, some see this as potential good news. Why on Earth would I want LOWER resolution? Displays aren't reducing their resolution....HD players certainly should not either. This is no way to gain an advantage over a competetor that claims to be technically superior to you.

Having supported HD DVD first, and held out hope that they would come through with strong releases and increased studio support, this is truly dissapointing.

It would be good for documentaries, one or more high-def music videos (think singles), demo material, independant short films, or even adult films. I doubt we'll ever see a Hollywood full feature film on this format.

or older movies that dont need 30 gigs?

if they sell them for say $10 or less then it would be cool

It's great for small companies that do mini features. I've worked on a few 30 minute releases that if they were done in HD this solution would work wonders in getting them released at an acceptable cost.

I agree about mini-features. I had to do a linux presentation in HD to sell it to a university.

This wouldve been nice since my options at the time were very limited.
