Hi guys... I'd like to buy a Garmin NAV unit for my sister.

She has a lot of difficulty with this kind of stuff, so she needs whatever is the easiest to USE, the easiest screen to SEE, and the loudest volume to HEAR. Etc. ;)

Based on the above info, do you recommend a StreetPilot or a Nuvi?

Which one is easiest to use? Which has the best viewable screen? Which has the loudest voice?

Also, she only needs BASIC NAVIGATION -- just something easy to get her from point A to point B. So, no extra features are required (since they will probably never get used).

Of course if you have any particular models you can recommend, that would be great!

Thanks in advance. :)

The Nuvi 660/680 is the clear choice.

The Nuvi line is intended to be foolproof -- usable by anyone out of the box. The 660/680 are Garmin's models with the best viewable screen and the loudest voice. Amazon sells the 660 for $699. These two are a significant premium over the 550/650, but the screen on the 660/680 is a dramatic upgrade over those models, in terms of size, readability, and sunlight rejection.

If $700 is more than you are willing to pay, check out the Nuvi 350/360 models -- they use the same software, but have a smaller, low-resolution screen with a speaker that is a bit less loud.

I think $700 is too much in this case... so I'll check out the 350 & 360.

But your vote goes to the 350/360 over the StreetPilot?

Thanks...

I bought one of those Nuvi 350's too. Sweet little device. Still, not perfect. I wish I can "over-ride" its' addresses I want to install. It jumps ahead to give you choices.

For example I wanted to put in the Battle Creek Amtrak Train Depot into my Nuvi.
I put in the correct address 104 Captital Ave SW, 49017. It ONLY gives me two choices...104 NE Capital Ave. with the 49017 zip...Or...104 Capital Ave SW with 49015 zip. I do not know which one to believe. Very annoying. Like I said I wish I could override it to the address *I* want to put in.

Other then that it is a decent little box.
