View Full Version : Studio Canal not only support HD DVD

In 10 May, Studio Canal will release his first BD title "PRETE-MOI TA MAIN" , of course it has HD DVD edition too, but I think it's a bad news for HD DVD
MidnightWatcher 02-20-07, 11:43 AM Apparently Studio Canal says this is not true.
I believe in the insiders thread, amirm confirmed it was an advertising mistake...
e_professor 02-20-07, 11:55 AM One things for sure - the already announced Studio Canal's catalog titles such as Ran, Le Pacte De Loups, etc. will not be released on Blu-ray anytime soon.
ShagMan 02-20-07, 12:16 PM Yeah, Amir has confirmed with Studio Canal that this was an advertising mistake, at least that's what has been relayed to him.

With that said, please note that I cannot speak on behalf of SC. What I can tell you is that we have checked with them and they say the report is incorrect. While they have never said they are "exclusive" to HD DVD (neither has any other studio regardless of whether they produce in one format or two), currently they are not producing BD titles. So they continue to be in “HD DVD camp” as I had mentioned before.
In the interest of fair reporting, I believe they have said that they would produce BD titles in “2007” so at some point there may distribute in that format.

Yep, it's actually coming to HD DVD...

WirelessGuru 02-20-07, 05:35 PM This news is so last week.

You can tell that this movie is bad just from seeing two people on a white background? Wow! I wish I had your sixth sense (could have spared me some wasted time )!
(Or did you mean you saw the movie and it literally visually looks terrible? In that case I take my comment back. :p )
hmurchison 02-20-07, 06:57 PM Bad news? More choice is never bad news regarding content. My preferrence for HD DVD doesn't mean I wish to withhold movies for BD owners. I want Studio Canal to crank out great titles in HD and if they wish to support BD then sobeit.
this is a comedie with good french actor many people will buy this one.
From Studio Canal's web-store: Babel on Blu-Ray

Has been on there quite a while now & also available in HD-DVD so unlikely to be a mistake.

No it's Studio C Anal. Good news for Astroglide.
Islanti 02-21-07, 11:43 AM Studio Canal is owned by Universal thanks to the Vivendi purchase of Universal a few years back (and subsequent sale of 80% interest to NBC). It seems very, very unlikely Studio Canal would be going a different direction than Unviersal like this.

But Vivendi also owns Universal Music Group, which happens to be in the BDA.

Unless this is a sign of things to come from Universal. Let's face it, given the direction things are going, it's only a matter of time before Universal goes at least neutral. Based on some of the rumors and things that have been going on at Universal, it does look like this might be happening.

I think Vivendi owns Studio Canal and Universal as separate entities.

Link? Or do you work at Universal?
The only rumors I know of are at the BR forum, not at Universal. And they're really not even rumors. Just people making stuff up.

Cmon man, there are no explosions in the background. They aren't even holding machine guns!
AnthonyP 02-21-07, 10:50 PM GE owns Universal pictures, Vivendi owns Universal music and SC
Islanti 02-22-07, 11:45 AM GE owns Universal pictures, Vivendi owns Universal music and SCAh, you're correct. With the sale of most of Universal to NBC I mistakenly thought Studio Canal went with it. Sorry for adding to the confusion.
A little off topic, but doesn't Studio Canal own the rights to Leon-The professional in Europe?
