Hi

I have a sony 1251 currently using an xbox 360 set at 1080i through componant and transcoder. This looks good and I have tried 720 which is a touch soft but still looks o.k, I am planning on getting a PS3 and have one of johns DVI cards. I have read that the PS3 game are 720p and blue ray films are 1080p. Will the card output the games at 720p or scale to 1080i and will films downscale from 1080p to 1080i

What would be the best settings on Ps3

Cheers

Hi

I have read that the PS3 game are 720p and blue ray films are 1080p.

HD DVD films are also 1080p.

Will the card output the games at 720p or scale to 1080i

The card does no scaling, but the source device will let you set the output you want.

and will films downscale from 1080p to 1080i

1080i is NOT downscaling 1080p. On film content, there is not difference in the data between 1080i and 1080p. The PS3 will output 1080i from the 1080p source just like the XBox 360 does with HD DVDs.

What would be the best settings on Ps3

Set it to output 1080i.

Thanks

What about the games do you know if a 720p game will upscale to 1080i, via PS3

Cheers

AFAIK, at this moment, the PS3 doesn't scale 720p games to 1080i. But as Dave said, you will do all your res changes on the PS3; John's card will take whatever res you throw at it. fwiw, mine is working fine, but I'm just running the PS3 to my VP50, letting it scale it to 720p. I don't want to downres to 1080i. But I have sent everything from 720p up thru 1080p to the DVI card, its all good.
