I wanted to see if anybody here who is using a PS3 connected via HDMI is facing similar issue to what I am seeing.

I have almost a 15 pixel vertical and 12 pixel horizontal overscan on my 70XBR2 with PS3. I did not see so much overscan with my DVPNS90V player also connected via HDMI, so what gives?!?

I hate overscans and pincushions.....

The XBR2 series generally exhibits 4-6% total vertical overscan and 6-8% total horizontal overscan. Available resolution on the screen varies slightly from unit to unit, but is roughly 1810 x 1020.

You don't notice overscan with DVD's since they are made assuming that the TV they are connected to will Overscan about 5% in order to emulate a standard old CRT TV. Therfor they and TV programs make sure not to put any meaningful content near the borders of their video.
PC desktop applications are the reverse since PC monitors used to always be adjusted to
have a black border on all edges since meaningful content is present on the edges of designed to display 20 80 character punched card images.
What you are probably ovserving with the game is physical overscan which means that system is built so that some of the image is underneath the bezel to insure thay it's edge never appears on the screen.

Yes, but someone posted a screen shot of one easter egg from a Sony Blu-Ray in the Blu-Ray software forum and that shot does not have any overscan in it. Now the player is different in his case though - I think it is a Sony BDP-S1 whereas mine is a PS3. I can take maybe 1-2% overscan but anything beyond that is robbing me of a full picture.

I also notice this in the OTA HD. For ex - While watching 24 on Fox, the Fox logo in the bottom right is clipped  . I know that TV's overscan, but to this extent is beyond me.

It's frustrating that even with digital displays in a digital TV world, we still have to put up with the dusty relic of overscan. I'm sure most of us here would rather have overscan of like 10 pixels, but Joe Blow doesn't care, so we will have to deal with it and other annoyances like red push for the next 10 years.

At least each year more of the HDTV systems being sold have the ability to disable Overscan over their ATSC video interfaces(HDMI/DVI/Component) since the manufacturers have finally learned that this is a capability that the consumer wants to be able to control.

Well my TV does allow for Overscan but never underscan :(. What's the benefit of an underscan when an image is already cropped so much!!!!

If you TV automatically overscans (zooms in) and you can't stop it with any settings. You can then Underscan the output from a PC (zooming it out) so it will be a correct full screen image on the the TV when it is zoomed back in. Unless your PS3 has the ability to underscan its video output underscan capability does not apply to you.
